"It's all about the structure. not beatmatching" That is the most useful line I've heard in regards to mixing pop music. As someone who plays at 18ths mostly, this was incredibly helpful. A lot of pop songs will being their vocals immediately so it was virtually impossible to properly beat match. Thanks heaps for this tutorial!

Needed to hear that I’m still a real DJ even though I don’t beat match 8-16 bars in between each song. Weddings are so on the fly, and the dance floor is so picky every single gig,, sometimes I’m picking the next song 10 seconds before I play it,, lots of audibles, impossible to blend for 8-16 bars and mess with bpms instantly. BUT you raised the most important part. Count your 1,2,3,4s Again, thanks for the reassurance

I feel hip-hop & afrobeats are the hardest genres you can ever mix. I would like to see you take on some hiphop tracks. I'll jump start with a list: 1. Lick - Cardi B 2. TTD - Nav 3. Mask Off - Future 4. Bambi - Jidenna 5. Tunnel Vision - Kodak Black And if that doesn't wear you off and you feeling like superman, i'll like to see you take on these afrobeats tracks: 1. Mad Over You - Runtown 2. Daddy Yo - Wizkid 3. Prayer - DMW Ft Davido & Mayorkun 4. Away - Psquare 5. Do like that - Korede Bello Hopefully if you decide to take on this challenge, we all can be able to learn more tricks !

I wish you made this tutorial months back when I had my first gig where I couldn't play mostly electronic music and had to improvise with Top40 stuff...but I figured out those tricks quickly. So thanks for confirming that what I've been doing is correct! Slowly fading in pop songs with other pop songs only works if there's no lyrics in the intro, which is always hard to find, but I found that using a delay/echo combined with a HPF helps you in the case of vocal overlays

There's more to transitioning than cueing and cutting, put your own feel into it at the right time. Best advice to beginners is to know your tracks! Know what you're playing, prepare and practice

I don't think anyone at the christening or bar mitzvah will be worried if you miss the beat, bar or phrase! I'm not being negative cos you clearly love music and that's all that matters to me. But Id always say that a bag full of the right music will always deliver more than any mix at this level, in fact at any level. Its always about the tunes ✌️️

I have my very first gig on 4th September, a 40th surprise birthday in a social club, so gonna knock out some 90s some Motown and a couple of ska, not my kind of thing, I’m a tech house guy, but got to get out there, I refuse to play wham or ABBA 😁 I’ve been trying to transition using the eq controls but it’s pointless, or at least hit and miss, so I had resolved to sliding one in as I slide one out ( how boring ) but know I can at least attack the 90s dance with your chop 😁😁

MIDI mapping. If you have a license on VirtualDJ, you can go on their site and find a mapping for the XDJ-RX. Or you can do it yourself, but it will take a while.

Please, don't do that. The VU meters are completely in the red, and the master channel is too low. The channels are clipping and sending a bad signal to the speakers. For mixes, we don't use the channel faders at 80% like this. While one channel is muted, there's no reason to lower a channel that's playing solo. Otherwise, any technique is a technique as long as it keeps the rhythm of the dance floor...

Thanks for the tip! I am 18 y/o and I always play at birthdayparties. But most of the time I mix the intro of one song together with a phrase of another one. Like in this mixtape: www.mixcloud.com/laurens-decraene/l%CE%BBmbicious-mixtape-4-/ I feel like your method is a bit to simpel... no effects (I use filter and echo together), no beatmatching. I only do this when I don't have a good version with a intro. But a good video nevertheless!
