This shit will forever have me nodding my head and smiling hard af. Amazing routine. Poor P-Trix had to try and warm up next to him too lol Need to find my VHS copy of this asap.

Danny is one of the pure examples of a hip-hop dj! His roots in Missouri gave him a masterful knowledge of all music, not just hip-hop. Dude invented the modern "mash-up"... Years before AM was able to bite and Z-Trip took all the credit!

Hey P, i know u probably don't remember me, but i remember you!!! You knocked me out of the competition that year with that set in Lawrence, Kansas. You did your thang!!! I remember they didnt allow video cameras at the DMC in Lawrence...too bad cuz when u did it in Lawrence it was a little tighter. This is my first time seeing this video, but i remembered u instantly! This was a good video, but i'm a witness.. the one in Lawrence, was flawless!!! That's why u won. Congrats! Dj CAS. Lawrence, Ks

holy shit, the songs used in this are all great individually, but mashed up like this become an even greater force. Excellent work, thanks for posting!
@miqsis3 жыл бұрын
That was mixing back then. It's called mash up, because corporate America has infiltrated hip hop. I mean kids don't even spin vinyl. I'm OLD SKOOL. If you can't spin vinyl, you're not a real dj. Sorry if I offend anyone. But "I represent the real hip hop"

He may not beat juggle, scratch, or beat match the best, but he is a true B-Boy for sure and knows his Hip Hop. His mash ups are unorthodox, but I can appreciate that. The DMC crowd is tough on DJ's and hard to impress with all the talent they have witnessed over the years, but they sounded impressed by his set. Big ups DJ P.

this was awesome lol it's nice to hear actual music being played and something that you can ENJOY listening to and ACTUALLY dance to...not trying to down play anyone or their skill set but juggling beats at 150 bpms or scratching battle records gets dull after a while. How many of you have ever found yourself scrolling through your ipods or music library thinking "gosh i want to hear the winning set to dmc 2009 right now" besides this is what the dmc USED to be about blending and mixing

As far as musicality and crowd control he won but at that stage of DMC history you couldn't possibly win with minimal scratching and no beat juggling. 1999 hands down had the toughest field of US competitors battling it out. P's set was different but couldn't beat the likes of P-Trix, Spictackular, or Slyce. Even tough sets like Ruckas and Dummy don't get the props they deserve because competition was so good.

take that you 1 trick rappers! booyah! LOL the best thing about that set was he didn't use battle discs and had to swap discs the old school way. DMC competitions should ban battle discs in my opinion and make jocks work for it. it's so lame when you hear a dozen jocks in a row all cutting the same disc. swapping & cuing are part of spinning too as is digging the crates. i saw absolutely no anger or violence in that set, just a "hip hop & don't stop" celebration of life. that's the real deal!
@deeel13 жыл бұрын
If you didn't know, DJ P is dope as hell and he's a true TRUE BBOY. But with all of the brainwashing that goes on regarding music and taste it doesn't surprise me what some youngsters say.
@djgambitron14 жыл бұрын
true... he's no q-bert or noize, but he STILL has 10x the talent of any rapper. make that 20x when you throw b-boying into the mix. this is the shee that no talent rappers ruined when they not only destroyed the ORIGINAL 3 elements, but then flipped hip-hop BACK to gangs & violence which it originally tried to END

It also was the only routine at the DMC that year that got a standing ovation. Just because a DJ doesn't go crazy with the scratch routine, people don't want to hear it. My personal opinion is this routine had a good deal of influence and helped start the whole "mash-up" rage.
