DJ Paul shares stories about having conversations with the late John Singleton about the culture of Memphis rap which lead to the creation of the motion picture “Hustle & Flow” and Three 6 Mafia‘s Academy Award Winning song “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp”.

True story: I had just joined the navy when their album came out and being from Va we strictly repped NY/East Coast music back then. So I get to my training command and went to this club down in Mississippi thinking I was going to hear the music I was used to listening to. Maaan…I got in that club and they played Tear The Club Up and the whole club went craaazzy!!! Folk was throwing chairs…bows…😂😂😂😂 And I was like wtf is this?!?!?! Best thing that could’ve happened to me because the military introduced me to the real south and I been hooked ever since.

Yes i agree with Paul , 1993-1999 was the greatest years in hip hop best artists best beats & everyone was dope back then even all the R&B artists!!!!! I would say 1995-2001 was the greatest 6 years in the history of rap music hands down!!!!! Everything was just good back then it was soooo hard to choose which 2 or 3 albums you wanted to cop at the store cuz everything was unique & hot & pretty much a masterpiece 💯

I'm from Chattanooga (East Tennessee). My brother was in his early 20s or near 20 in the early 90s. I have an older cousin that went to TSU in Nashville in 93' that was roommates with a nigga from Memphis. The roommate invited them to come out to Memphis on spring break. The roommate knew DJ Paul. My brother remember going over Paul's house but can't remember who was who. He just remember it was a whole bunch of people at his house.

Huge DJ Paul fan. But there’s some untruthful stuff being told on this. On his old underground tapes, he didn’t start incorporating their music until about 91(DJ Paul Vol 9). Also, the first Serial Killaz tape with him & Infamous didn’t drop til 92. Paul started dj’ing in ‘89 but didn’t get hit till 92. Also, Juicy was crazy jealous of Paul, because Juicy started dj’ing before Paul, but when Paul became hot, he blew past Juicy.
@josephdowning2876
@josephdowning2876 4 жыл бұрын
RJbee8 now if juicy became jealous why would he team up with Paul and why would Paul even go for it....?
@RichBoyy86
@RichBoyy86 4 жыл бұрын
Joseph Downing they teamed up before Paul blew up. Paul really became the top DJ in Memphis is 93. They were introduced in 92 or late 91 i can’t remember. They did their first tape together in late 92 going into 93. DJ Paul Vol12 pt.2 came out, and Paul was on top. No DJ in the game was on his level. He even surpassed all the OG DJ’s in the game in Memphis and it wasn’t even close
@1Circusman
@1Circusman 4 жыл бұрын
I can kinda believe this. Juicy also used to DJ for 8ball, but I think Juicy was more business orient than Paul. Paul was fresher behind the beats tho.
@RichBoyy86
@RichBoyy86 4 жыл бұрын
Beta Ray Trill nah u should believe it cuz it’s true lol. Also, 8ball & MJG has their own DJ “DJ J Smooth”. By the way, that’s not Juicy J lol. But yes, you’re right bout the business part. Juicy was definitely more business oriented than Paul was. Paul was definitely way sicker on the beats than Juice tho.
