all the early djs knew about jazz and used multiple jazz, funk, r&b, even rock samples in their tracks. good djs nowadays have a lot of musical knowledge as well. diggin in the crates is basically what every good dj does, now some only do it virtually but a true music fan, will listen to all kinds of genres.

Its been happening for decades, the earliest hiphop was all about the DJ keeping the beats for the rapper and then producers like Mantronix took it to another level similar to what Premier is doing here, utilising technology with turntablism back in the mid 80s, you then had Jazzy Jeff and Cash Money creating a whole performance behind the decks and Jeff even had his own band behind him in the early 2ks very similar to this but not quite on this level as the band werent as well integrated.

An absolute legend!!! This is what is missing in today’s hip hop. Today’s hip hop(the majority of them) do not have the artistic abilities that the golden era has.
