Met a guy at a house party in Balham about 20 years ago. Randomly got talking about DnB and our favourite tracks and I remember saying that I didn't think Mutant Revisited could ever be topped... Cue flushed cheeks and embarrassed smile... "That's one of mine" he said. Much to his embarrassment, I lost my sh*t! Ran round the party telling everyone I'd met a f*cking music hero. Barely anyone knew what I was talking about (not really a DNB party) but those that knew, KNEW! 💪🙌❤️🔥

I can recognize DJ Trace from a mile away. His breaks, bass, synths, arrangement of components is done in such remarkable way that I can instantly recognize Trace. Life Could drum sample is his trademark alongside that wicked Reesy bass that makes my woofer shoot photons. Amongst trillion Amen break samples one can recognize wich one was manipulated by Trace and that, in my humble opinion, is such a macabre and unique possibility to differentiate yourself amongst millions of producers. DJ Trace alongside Nico stands as an tall tower speaker above grey matter that gets overshadowed by the sheer presence of the true sound manipulator.

Greatest DnB tune of all time. Around 6 minutes in is the clean sample of the Tramen/Domen break, if you have the vinyl. I've always wondered if Trace put that break in the bassline in there intentionally so people could sample the break, or if it was a happy accident.

Well, sad thing is that it may never happen. Kids nowadays are so used to music lasting only like 3 to 4 minutes, they're going to see this and think "it's just the same thing for over 9 minutes". It's not. It's called DJ friendly. I cannot deny the importance of this tune though. However, it does not survive well in the current world of rapid media consumption.

@@theeturnoneI'm just seeing this 4 years after the fact Lol. I traveled from Philly to a party in Pittsburgh in, I want to say, 1995 or 96. I can't remember what it was called but maybe it was "Return To Oz" (?) There were two buildings on the property and the property was on the outskirts of the city. It was still an urban area though if that makes any sense. There was a large Warehouse type building and also a smaller barn on the same property. The barn is where the D&B room/ambient room was. Trace and Ed Rush were DJs there, Dieselboy of course, all of the usual suspects Lol.. It was a wild party. I loved every minute of it! Towards the end of the night, as the sun was coming up, it got busted and all I remember is about 20 people getting locked up. But in true Fuck The Law style, the party raged on. We went back to the Best Western and resumed the party there around 5am. One of my best memories of that decade. I miss those days so much. I have nothing left of that time in my life but vivid and corful memories. All of my flyers, cassettes (Lol, I would listen to them so much that they'd break), clothes, photos, etc. from that time have all been lost in moves or whatever. I'd love to meet someone who was at this particular party.
