DJ Tutorial, Mixing different genres.
www.djtutor.com...
www.decks.co.uk...
In this video i take a look at how and why you should try to have a mess about with mixing different genres of music. Stick to two basic rules.
1, The toons must sound well togeather
2, the BPM must ba at a constant for beat mixing purposes.

So cool to actually watch how it is done, since when your clubbing u normally dont stand and watch the DJ actually mix. I have a lot of respect for DJs who actually mix and not just press play on a Cd player. Very neat to watch!

to the person reading this, are you a beginner dj? watching more of this guy is what you should do, I'm sure many dj's would recommend that.

I appreciate your technique, mate. This is the 4th video I've seen of yours and I dig how you break it down to the foundations of mixing. Your uploads give me inspiration and motivation. Keep on spinnin'!

Traktor is a gift from GOD. It makes mixing between genres so easy. I mix without previewing tunes I'm mixing into - the trick is prep, choose your tracks wisely and order them in three different acts. That's my rule, have a beginning, middle, and end - each section being dedicated to the different genre. From then on, it's all about beatmatching and crossfading

One trick I have learned over time mixing different genres is instead of matching beat for beat, is to match the phrases (whether it be a 16 or 32 beat phrase). It works well if you mix a garage or break beat tune with a house track. The beats work together and they sound great.

Tapping the cue button is for mixing with the fader volumes up. You create a synchronized pattern to the beat of the first track until you press play and then continue blending the two tracks until you choose to end the first one. Another way is to beat match with the fader volumes down then you increase the volume. But by tapping the cue button in a pattern sequence you theoretically are bringing the track in 24 to 40 beats earlier then you would the other way.

@2086Official you could use a dropping technique of just stopping one track with an echo effect or something along those lines, and then just drop in your next song where you want it to start. its a not so subtle change but it works fairly well and shouldn't let you down.

This base of how I form my sets. I like to play mutliple genres with the Trance structure sticking to a BPM range of 142-145. Genres like: Euro Trance, Scouse Bounce, Hard Trance and Hardstyle. Incorporating a bit of everything makes the set more diverse. And guarantees that listeners will like at least some part of your set since there is so many different genres.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please teach these kids! It's so frustrating going to clubs these days. I remember the day when it sounded like you were listening to one song all night that just changed beats! Maybe I was just lucky and had access to go d.j.'s.

Obviously I'll stick generally to a genre. For me it's disco house. But I like it when DJs break up the monotony a little bit. Makes a set more interesting. And the fact that I don't really love genres but artists more.

you usually need a left an right speaker 2 get the effect of the full stereo field. but 1 speaker can work. check to c if it has an auxiliary port (i doubt it has) but if so get an auxiliary cable and run it from the mixer into the loud speaker. if it doesnt have an auxiliary port you will need an amp that does an hook it up to the mixer and the loud speaker. id advice you to get another speaker though or a stereo with aux ports. any decent electronic store can sort you out

No. When he's pressing the cue button it's the first beat of the second track. He presses it in a pattern to the beat of the first track. When he's ready to bring it in, he presses play.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by go to the maxx. Are you talking about mixing harmonically? Reaching the max on the key scale and then starting again from the bottom? If someone can mix harmonically while still mixing up the genres. That's some serious skills.

I think that for people new to dj-type discussions like this that it's importand to distinguish: 4/4 time: pretty much all dance music is in this time signature (besides a waltz, i suppose). 4 on the floor beat: as in house, 4 bass beats per measure.

you should always mix different genres into your sets .say if you played only piano house and nothing else would be boring after a while. tunes with similar drumming and bass lines will work well regardless of what instrument makes up the melody.

But there's so many forms of electronic music, which makes me quite satified. *If your jazz type: then you'll like ambient, new wave, chill, garage, & even downtempo. *If your the rap/hip hop type: then you'll like trip-hop, Drum-N-Bass, & downtempo. *If your the energy-defying/rave type: then you'll like progressive, house, & even trance. i advice anyone to avoid the mainstream hits cuz they all suck There's tons of really good electronic artists out there, you just got to where to look.
