Everyone seems to be copying the James Hype style and if you ain't you're a nobody.... Richie Hawtin one one of the firsts with doing more than just mixing when using digital....but according to this video, even he isn't pro nowadays....I get and understand the newstyle style and new gen of mixing but to reiterate there is no wrong or right way of mixing...and it also depends on what style youre mixing....

It also depends on what kind of music you are mixing. All techniques don't work with every genre of music. I work in the techno genres (hard, psy-trance, etc). I find that too much in this, breaks the mix. But, hey, it works great with house type genres. Love your channel, Carlo.

Waiting on my hp envy pc to arrive. Torned between the ev etx 18sp and the qsc sub for the house and potential gigs in the future. Right now this is a hobby for me. I think the EV elx200 18sp may be too weak. I know the qsc brings the heat but haven't heard an etx model in person yet. Money I'm not spending on American women. Speakers will still be providing joy 20 years from now and cause me zero stress.

@@djcarlo thanks. I received the qsc ks118 on Tuesday night. Couldn't get anyone to go pick it up so i called an uber xl and put it in the back of a toyota highlander for 25 bucks. Who needs friends? So far I'm happy but it feels like the qsc subwoofer isn't even being pushed by the flx4 signal. Is this where a mixer helps unlock power to get more out of your speakers? The hp envy laptop is amazing and has been running flawlessly for 2 weeks now. My tops are ev zlx 12bt speakers. Sound system sounds great. Why did i choose the qsc sub or the ev one? Because the EV one limits early. Sound was very similar but at the store the default qsc at unity was as loud as the EV at first limit. So in the name of space and headroom to push i got the QSC. Just that at home i can't seek to get the QSC to limit even with the gain maxed out. Is this something a mixer helps with? To get more out of your hardware?

I never really cared to use effects but i do care about having at least 3 track decks to work with. Im big with using lots of hot cues or messing with the speed of a song and throwing over a drum track to change the energy of the track. Sometimes you can find a track with a nice bassline and it might sound cool if its sped up or slowed down. People have heard my sets thinking im a amazing dj but the truth is i do very little and i always think of myself as average. The most talented djs i believe to be those dmc scratch champions, i see what they do and im like holy shit thats amazing.

Hey Carlo, great video! I also use a DDJ-400 and therefore your tutorial leaves me with the following question: You demonstrated that you got to the beat slicer mode when you pressed the sampler button (the initial second function behind the sampler is key shift). Could you explain how you reached the beat slicer mode there? Because if I want to try and replay your transition I only reach the beat slicer mode, when I manually select it in the record box software - which is pointless by the speed which is required here. Or has it something to do with the version of the software or the software plan? Cheers Sören

I don't know. In Germany DJs who use FX all the time get looked down on for the most part. At least in all kinds of Techno. Overuse of FX is very EDM like. A clean mix should work without stuff like that. I think it's pretty disrespectful to the producers of the tracks you're playing.

While the skill ceiling is very high, there is no easier profession in all of music. If you practice the first technique he showed, that’s all you will ever need to DJ at parties and clubs and even get paid. In a casual setting nobody cares and the hardest part of DJing is pretending like you’re doing something while you wait a minute plus for the next transition.
@djcarlo3 ай бұрын
I see your point, but that may be oversimplifying things. Actual good DJs may not be doing things at every minute, but during the down times, good DJs won't be simply pretending to do things. They might be crowd reading, to see if the room is enjoying the music. Or something else, like picking out the next song.
@nuh-uhbro7653 ай бұрын
@@djcarlo I see where you’re coming from but my point is that you don’t actually have to be a good DJ to get by, or at least that threshold is much lower than other fields in music and I don’t think that’s an oversimplification. You could buy a cheap DJ controller, practice some basic transitions for a weekend, and be offering your talents for small parties right away and get paid for it. No other field in music has that low of a bar for entry. I also mean no disrespect to DJs it’s not a diss or me claiming it’s wrong, it’s just an observation based on my own experience.

Yrs ago, a dj would use the resolve of a track and the build up of the next to create the drop. The last festival I went to every freeking dj was doing break down and drop every 60 seconds. And every dj was doing the same things... Me and my lady left early, got boring after 3 dj sets in multiple tents. Better off going to see an established artist like left field, orbital or the chemical brother play thier music live.

Yeah, this is fine for a 1 minute video like this, or for a routine in a competition (or if you just wanna show off once during a set hehe), but maybe not every minute for the whole set! Just because it can be done once, doesn't mean it should be done all the time!

In my opinion the difference between beginner and pro dj has nothing to do with technical skills (which btw you can acquire in less than a few days). Everything is in first, the selection and then : feeling, crowd reading and adaptability. And that takes years to master 😉.
@djcarlo9 ай бұрын
That's fair! Any DJ who knows their stuff really puts thought into selection before anything else

The DJs on the last parties I went to were worse than the beginner example. 😐 Maybe there should be something like a driving license for DJs.

Can this be done in Serato? I have a DDJ-SB3 and I’ve always wanted to have that white noise effect but I’m not sure if I have the controls for it
@djcarlo11 ай бұрын
For the most part, absolutely! The noise effect is usually linked to the filter knob, which the SB3 has
