Your mannerisms for tutorials get me invested because you are so soft spoken and relaxed. No loud hyper wannabe internet personality being all like “YO WHADDUP ITS YA BOY -“ shit who spends the whole video going way too fast and way too energetic when talking which feels like it treats me as if I’m already an expert and it overwhelms me and distracts me from learning. What I love about you is that even though you have mastered Ableton, you are deliberately slow in your actions and presentation because you acknowledge your target audience and are super beginner friendly so you can give uneducated people a chance to follow along without issue. I look forward to watching more tutorials from you.

I found your video most useful, particularly because it well-paced and clear. I am new to Ableton Live and my only previous experience with a DAW has been with Audacity. This video approaches audio recording via the Arrangement view whereas many others favour Session view. Whilst I get the difference between the two and can see when one might use one in favour of the other I cannot get my heads around both being able to record independently. When would one want to record in say Session view and not want the recording to be visible in Arrangement view?
@DJCouchKing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback! Session view is meant to be an idea sketchpad, or a live performance tool, whereas arrangement view is more of a traditional recording space. I think if you want to play around with ideas before committing to a song structure, or "feeling out" the changes that's when you want to use session view. Hope that helps!
@paulburnett47154 жыл бұрын
@@DJCouchKing Thanks for the advice. I had pretty much come to a similar conclusion but it just seems strange that the two views work independently. It is not at all intuitive how to transfer recordings from one to the other. My instinct, having used Audacity, was to work in Arrangement view as per your video but so many others seem to use Session view.

Thanks for your video. I just got this Ableton software because it was included with my Focusrite Scarlett. The only thing I'll be using it for is to overdub a guitar to existing songs and send that track back to my friend. I cannot find any videos that explain how to do that. I drag and drop his song file into the project, I can hear my guitar live, but when I hit "record" nothing happens. I hear the track playing his song but my guitar disappears and does not record. None of the videos on youtube explain how to do this. I can do it with Audacity but I don't like the sounds they offer for guitar.

Ableton doesn't have built-in destructive operations like normalize, or noise reduction etc. In the file/folder preferences you can set an external audio editor such as audacity to open and edit clips. Otherwise there are plugins like RX denoise that can do that

Hey! great video! Im recording audio with my microphone, it works very well but the gain is too low... I was wondering on how to increase the audio record gain from software not after I record but before I record without doing it manually from my audio interface? Thank you!
@DJCouchKing3 жыл бұрын
You should increase the gain manually on your audio interface. If the record signal is too low that means there's not enough gain on the preamp. If you try to boost the signal digitally it will sound worse. Increase the gain on your interface until your input signal is peaking between -6 to -12 on the channel meter.

@@DJCouchKing hey! Thanks for the response I exactly figured that out I switched the gain from my Audio interface and it sounds just so good!

I am considering to buy a sound card to record my guitar on Ableton, but I already have a good microphone. I am wondering what is exactly the function of the sound card in the recording process and how much the quality improves by using the sound card. Appreciate your help.

The purpose of the sound card is to reduce latency, provide I/O and good preamps for recording.

thanks for the video couch king! I have a recording problem I was hoping you could help me with? I have 2 tracks in a session. One is a piano midi audio segment, and the other is an audio track I am recording from my microphone. My issue is I would like to be able to listen to the audio from the MIDI track, and record the mic on the audio track, but not have the MIDI track audio record onto the audio mic track. Every time I hit record, I can hear the MIDI piano in the background over my voice recording. Note: I have turned off all external speakers and only have the headphones plugged in, so the MIDI piano sound is not coming into the recording via the mic, but via Ableton itself. I am not sure what output settings I need to have on the MIDI track, or what input settings I need on the audio track?? Your help is appreciated. Oh, and thank you for a great video! I have hit the subscribe button.

Have you tried using the External Instrument device on your MIDI track?

Thanks! I use Ableton Live to produce music and Adobe Premiere Pro for video editing. The screen capture was done with OBS studio. Hope that helps!

i started using FL to produce/record, and i found i liked abelton better for production, i had some knowledge on recording but now that i switched to abelton, i wanted to know how you can make the voice pitched low (chopped & screwed) also how do you make the vocals go all the way to the right or left for mixing? i wanted to create two tracks and mix one to the left, one to the right
