"Baby Come Back"...I so remember the first time I heard this on WXYZ in Detroit with Dick Purtan in the mornings getting ready to graduate my senior year in high school. It was a nice way to start the day with something gentle and warm to go along with the coffee to go and the snow on the road. Peter Beckett and John Charles Crowley met at a party and agreed to jam together when they found shared musical interets. During the jam session, the duo agreed it was time to put together a band, taking on drummer John Friesen, keyboardist Wayne Cook and bassist Ronn Moss. The production was handled by veteran writer/producers Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter agreed to produce Player. The production duo were responsible for the sound of the #1 pop hit Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" and Tavares "It Only Takes A Minute", two disparate songs that display the range they were capable of. "The best love songs were written with a broken heart" sings Karen Carpenter and this gloriously arranged song is proof of that. Beckett and Crowley also bonded because both men had just broken up with their women and used this experience to write "Baby Come Back", which came together on a hot summer night rehearsal in Crowley's Los Angeles garage. The band was accused of appropriating the sounds of Hall & Oates, who were incidentally in a slump at the time. Beckett countered that they obviously had not listened to the entire album. The official follow up was "This Time I'm In For Love" a #10 Hot100 hit. At the time, the run of #1 was like this, 11 weeks of Debby Boone "You Light Up My Life" gave way to Bee Gees "How Deep Is Your Love" starting December 24, 1977 for three weeks. Now, the Bee Gees were on RSO Records and so was every #1 Hot100 hit that followed, "Stayin' Alive" for four weeks, Player for three weeks, Andy Gibb "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" for two weeks, Bee Gees "Night Fever" eight weeks and finally Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You" for one more week, setting a record breaking run at #1 for an amazing 21 weeks, setting several probably will never be broken records like six consecutive #1 singles, the fourth consecutive hit written by Barry Gibb (who broke Lennon-McCartney's 3 consecutive #1's), and the fourth #1 single from the same soundtrack. Man, we were riding quite the wave back then, RSO was not finished either, they added another ten weeks at #1 with Andy Gibb "Shadow Dancing" for seven weeks, John Travolta & ONJ "You're The One That I Want" for a week and finally Frankie Valli "Grease" for two weeks. Whew! that was one hell of a hot summer that carried all the way through to the end of 1979. Player continued recording and releasing albums on a variety of labels, Casablanca, RCA and then River North Records in 1995. They released their last LP "Too Many Reasons" in 2013.

My Dad passed away in December 2020, he loved this song and music. My pops worked for the Railroad and retired with 38 years of service. This reminds me when I was a little kid and my Mom and sister would take my Dad lunch at work. Many years later I now work for the Railroad keeping our legacy going with 21 years under my belt. Dad keep them rails moving in Heaven until next time Dad.. Love You Forever

@@antoniozamorano1075 I remember my dad.... when I was a kid.... constantly turning off the music the kids were listening to at the time....back in the 80s. In some ways it's simply the genre you grow up with....but the words were so much more meaningful in older music....as well as the simplicity of the words and meaning of the words. He used to say... bluntly....'Turn that shi- off!!!" and he'd turn the station on the radio. Id get aggravated with him for doing that.....but now I feel the same way..... ten fold!!!

A true masterpiece from beginning to the end. And this is the first time I have heard this Soul Perfection Version. And I am so taken from it as if it was 1977 all over again. What emotion in music. Moi @ June 27, 2020.😃. In my opinion though, in each and every year, new songs were kind of evolving. Different styles of music were being made for example such as EDM songs, Pop, Rock, Ballad, Hard Metal, Punk Rock, etc. I like listening to all kinds of music whether it is an old school music or even new songs of today. Of course, because of high technology nowadays, music can be made easily unlike before. So, it is just a matter of seeing that these people are just bringing out the artist in them by making music in whatever generation they are in or whatever genre of music they like to make. Music is a universal language and it is a one kind of communication and expression of ourselves, so I think we should respect what other people would love to hear. Whether old or new songs. Stay safe everyone and God bless us all.😘😘😘

Lyrics Spending all my nights, all my money going out on the town Doing anything just to get you off of my mind But when the morning comes, I'm right back where I started again Trying to forget you is just a waste of time Baby come back, any kind of fool could see There was something in everything about you Baby come back, you can blame it all on me I was wrong, and I just can't live without you All day long, wearing a mask of false bravado Trying to keep up the smile that hides a tear But as the sun goes down, I get that empty feeling again How I wish to God that you were here Baby come back, any kind of fool could see There was something in everything about you Baby come back, you can blame it all on me I was wrong, and I just can't live without you Now that I put it all together Give me the chance to make you see Have you used up all the love in your heart Nothing left for me, ain't there nothing left for me Baby come back, any kind of fool could see There was something in everything about you Baby come back, listen, you can blame it all on me I was wrong, and I just can't live without you I was wrong, and I just can't live

This song takes me back when I was a kid listening to this song when it was new on the radio. I still remember being in my room on a weekend at night with the lights off and only the glow of the lights of my mini home stereo on AM radio. It was winter and I looked outside only to see my surroundings filled with fresh snow and the yellow orange reflections of light coming from the street light illuminating the snow like millions of diamonds. Young, warm in my room, the cool touch of glass from my window, care free, and appreciating the simple things of life. The 70's , you had to live it to understand it.

Love this song even though it reminds me of having my heart broken for the first time as a teenager in the 70’s 💔

I feel that. Reminds me of those carefree teenage years & the weekend nights at Rocky Point Amusement Park (RIP) in Warwick, RI in the late '70s/early '80s. Young love, good times, loss & heartbreak all wrapped up together.

Love music so much. Helps sooth the mind. It's like our souls that play it's part of life, echoing & flying through the universe. All our colors, coloring the world with amazing sights & our sounds. The way music travels through out the world touching everyone's heart, mind & soul.
