As Samuel has listed...yes...plus more info for you... Philly Soul was the nickname for a "Sound" ...that sound was mainly done by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff with their Philadelphia International Record label...and Thom Bell was like a silent partner. Between Gamble, Huff and Bell...you had some writing/producing talent that was better than Motown, in my opinion. That label also had the Delfonics, Stylistics, Three Degrees and many more. They succeeded Motown, who went out of business after the main writing team of Holland-Dozier-Holland left. (HDH wrote most of the Supremes songs when Diana Ross was the lead)

As I've detailed above (this is Jim, here), Philly Soul was a name that characterized a sound...not restricted to Philadelphia International Records (PIR), the company that succeeded Motown, owned by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. There were many groups not affiliated with PIR that were characterized as having the Philly sound. In fact, most would characterize Philly Soul like this. I DON"T. To me, Philly Soul is the sole property of acts associated with Gamble & Huff's PIR. But that's me.
