Dude - I really appreciate your series and I thank you for posting your videos...being a DJ myself, I find myself schooling these young cats out here on where these samples used in today's hip-hop tracks come from, and I've learned quit a bit myself from watching your videos. Even teachers have teachers, and I've come to accept you as mine - real type. Keep up the excellent work!

In my area now........ Luv Jazz music. Check out two other gems by Lonnie Liston Smith "In the park" and "Sunburst" - absolutely brilliant! Mystic Brew - off Ronnies first album on Blue Note "Two headed freap" always loved that track, didn't know it had been sampled. Nice track by McCoy Tyner - Walk Spirit Talk Spirit - the version off the later album Layonda de la hora (forgive my spelling).

@coreyaustin114 жыл бұрын
Why can't people understand that rap music is made from samples. It's the genius of combining beats and scratches and hooks to create a new feel to the old records. Peep Stestasonic's song " Talkin All that Jazz" it explains it all. No disrespect for people making new beats, but notice all hip hop classics have sampled songs in them...
@barriobajaj15 жыл бұрын
Has anyone been watching the old Soul Train reruns on Centric? A few weeks back featured Lonnie Liston Smith and Roy Ayers. Last week was Mandrill and Elton John.

Accidentally purchased both the Ronnie Foster and Vijay Iyer Trio renditions of 'Mystic Brew'. To anyone with critical listening skills and a buck to spare: could you explain what is going on in the Vijay Iyer version of the song? I honestly restarted iTunes midway through my first listen. The VIT rendition is the antithesis of 'Electric Relaxation'; more an agitating poly-phasic nightmare. But somehow I can't stop listening to it...
