DJI Action 4 & DJI MIC2 - No Receiver Needed!

Hey, thanks for your comments and like and sub! DJI def deserves props for having the foresight to implement this in the Action 4 when it was in development. Combined with the 32-bit float back up, I see this being huge for some moto folks!

Hey Wayne, I have the Pocket 3 Combo and OA4. Just paired it with the Mic 2 and it worked flawlessly! Thank you so much, I didn't even know there was a new firmware update!:) FURTHER TESTING: Just filled a bog bowl of water, left the tap running at maximum stream and placed the camera at the bottom. Walked to the other end of the room then came back and took the camera out, did not stop talking the whole time. When looking at the footage it surreal - all you see is a water fountain while hearing crisp studio-like audio. Amazing, this just opened the door to endless shooting possibilities!:)

Does the microphone work as a camera remote control (as with the Pocket 3)? That is, can you start and stop video recording using the Mic2?

I've heard that the MIC 2 does work as a remote for the Action 4 just like on the Pocket 3.

I got my Mic 2 today, paired it with my iPhone, AND the Action 4 at the same time! Meaning that it stays paired to BOTH. I use them separately, just have to turn off one’s Bluetooth, to use the others. Haven’t tried dual recording yet…

@@WayneRECs I have the action 4 and am getting the pocket 3 in a couple of weeks. I’ve been trying to use the action 4 on my bike but have been struggling to get decent audio as the vibration is a major issue. Now I’ll be able to stick the wireless mic somewhere and get natural audio. I gave you a like and follow. Keep it up.

Im using Dji mic 2 with my action 4 to record some motovlogging, its sounds okay ish when things is not going to fast. I experience audio clipping all the time tho. (I have the mic in my backpack yo record the exhaust.)

That's a great point! Single functionality was a big downside for some so being able to charge and use a wireless mic solves that!

If it's bluetooth, it can do, what garmin did years ago, in Virb. Back then, i did not find bt any good. Can be, it's better today. Or there mic2 is. Do not waist time on any bt, have a real check on the dji mic2. Sound is hard out were the action is

This is a great news not only for motovlogers! I am a runner and I record my runs, and very often I record my thoughts during the runs. Currently I'm using Comica Vimo S which works fine, mainly due to a very light microphone: only 10g (the mic is bouncing quite a bit). However, I have to connect the receiver which requires: (a) removal of the flap and (b) use of a special USB-C angle adapter. It is not very convenient. The wireless receiver within Action 4 make the camera considerably more attractive. Unfortunately I have Action 3...

Sounds like the feature would be perfect for your application! I had hopes that DJI wouldn't abandon the Action 3 as I still think it's a great camera, but it looks like they poured a lot more attention into the Action 4 (unfortunately).

Just installed the firmware update and paired the DJI Mic 2 from my Osmo Pocket 3 with my Osmo Action 4. I can confirm, it's just that easy. Big things, for sure. Also, for those who don't know this: the DJI Mic 2 also pairs up with mobile phones and for example the Insta360 cameras. It doesn not work with the GoPro Hero 12 atm, as GoPro made a mess of bluetooth in that.

@@WayneRECs I'll try get something up tomorrow. I also want to test the bluetooth range. I did try to pair the InstaMic Pro Plus already ... that is unfortunately a no go. DJI have it locked down to their own, but that was expected.

Hi Wayne, just caught this video and saw you stated the firmware update to connect the DJI Mic 2 to the Action 4 via Bluetooth... here's my question..can you connect TWO mics via Bluetooth? I was told yesterday (22.1.24) in my local DJI store that the firmware had been updated to accommodate the two. One of my other KZbin experts reckons its rubbish and the people in the store don't know what they are talking about. Can you enlighten me please. By the way ive subscribed 👍

I'm wondering if the Action 4 camera gives me the ability to change all settings on a Mic 2 transmitter (32 bit float, low cut filter, etc) , without a Mic 2 reciever. I want to make sure that when I modify any settings via the Action 4 camera, do those settings stay that way on the transmitter, even if I later use the transmitter on it's own without the Action 4? I'm trying to decide whether I can buy just the transmitters without the receiver, and use my Action 4 to basically get full functionality out of the transmitters, apply settings I want, and then use the transmitters as standalone onboard recording. Thanks!

As of right now, yes, the majority of Mic 2 TX settings can be accessed on a connected Action 4. I'm currently running this exact setup and often times just use my Mic 2 as a standalone 32-bit float recorder. I think there is only 1 setting that is RX only and that's the ability to disable the TX power button from turning on Noise Reduction. That's not to say tho that DJI won't make this setting eventually available on the OA4 via a firmware update. All TX settings are saved when it's disconnected from the Action 4 (or Pocket 3 or Mic 2 RX). However, I think if you change a setting in camera without a mic 2 connected, upon pairing, those new settings are automatically written to the TX. Additionally, updating the firmware of the Mic 2 TX via USB-C may reset the TX settings to factory default.

I'm not an expert in how wireless bluetooth protocols pair, but I would think DJI would keep this feature limited to it's products. (Plus I couldn't pair any of the wireless systems I have directly to the camera...)

What you can do is connect the fulaim receiver to the Dji mic 2 through the 3.5 mm jacks. That will allow you to use both mics of the Fulaim. I tried it with my Hollymark mics and it worked. Not sure how sound would be affected but it sounded good to me.

@@Salems413 Thanks. Yes, that should definitely work. But I was mostly interested in sending the signal straight to the Action4 for vlogging and biking. This would be very handy for my use case. I am not going to buy a new camera before early next year though, I guess someone will have figured out by then. Thanks again.

Yes no RX needed, but the bluetooth sound quality is crap also a few milliseconds desynced with the video as well. so you need the mic 2 rx as well of course

I don't know for sure, but I imagine DJI would have a few different purchasing options, like a set with 2 TX and a charging case or an option to buy a stand alone TX (which I know Pocket 3 owners would love).

lol it did go on sale few weeks ago. So i did buy one. Don't be sad. dji mic wireless is timeless. And if you do other stuff then yourself. It's great. Remember, you can synk in post.

Motorvloggers do not need waterproofing we just need weatherproofing, and the audio attachment will work just fine. Wireless mic is unnecessary as we still need to pull a lav into the helmet, and there is yet another piece of gear to charge.

for me motovlog which is only short distances, waterproofing is very important especially if the DJI Mic 2 is really going to be released and can be used with the DJI Osmo Action 4 when it rains wow that's very good.

@@gaspollmv Audio adapter + wired lav live on my helmet and we have survived hundreds of tropical thunderstorms. It is weatherproof enough. You don't need a wireless solution.

If DJI can achieve this, then hopefully they can make the Mic 2 work properly with the Pocket 3 - they say that it's not supposed to collapse the built in mics to mono when audio backup is selected, but... it does. Bugfix please!
