This mic is absolutely brilliant with the Osmo Action 4. No receiver needed. Just the transmitter and frankly, if you have an Action, the mic is a no brainer. Very small amount of EQ in post and you get excelllent sounding audio ...... from a little action camera!! In this video, rather than just do a formal review, I just used it in different locations. The audio was just normalised and not edited..... straight from the Action 4!! Normally, I do a small amount of EQ and compress, but this is the raw audio coming from the camera!!!

What an awesome video and only 1,304 views after 6 months? Crazy. So at least I'm not the only one suffering with such low views ... lol. Anyhow ... again ... superb video - exactly what I wanted to see. Keep up the good work.

I’ve given up with viewers! I just make videos and forget about them tbh these days. Thanks for watching.

@@iancraig Great approach. I did that at the beginning and then had lots of success, but after that I tried to "optimize" my videos and views went straight down, but that was in early 2020 when everything changed so it was maybe not related to my content .... lol. Good luck with your channel anyway. You really deserve more views.

Hi Jon. Funny thing is that it sounds great into the Action but not so good into the Ace Pro. Seems like it’s really well matched with the Action, and probably the pocket 3 as well.

I’m thinking about it, but the size of some of the things out there is terrifying. Went to a place in Islamorada today, feeding tarpon by hand. Five to six feet long and jumping out of the water to take the fish that I held and half my arm with it! I’ve got three weeks here to think about it, but some of the really big things, I’m not keen on getting stuck with on the end of a rod. A man was attacked by a bull shark today in Key West. Nearly took his leg off!

I'm so close to ditching the GoPro ecosystem and moving to DJI. Sick of the GoPro limitations and needing so many accessories just to get a decent external mic plugged in. Great video!
@iancraig5 ай бұрын
The Hero 9 did it for me. Freezing, switching off while recording, locking up. I became so sick of it. Never had a freeze or lock up on any Action and I have all 4!

@@iancraig that’s pretty good! I’ve maybe had a couple GoPro crashes but I don’t use it that often. I’m just pricing up a DJI mic 2 for GoPro but for the TX and RX plus GoPro media mod it would set me back around £250 😤 I could probably sell my GoPro 11 and then buy the Action 4 and a single DJI mic 2
@iancraig5 ай бұрын
If you get the Action 4, then the DJI Mic 2 is just superb with it. Set input volume around +6 on the Action and it sounds great and has a really healthy volume too. The Action 4 and Ace Pro are my favourite Action cams. Gopro doesn't come into it for me.

I have found recording via the camera is ok if a bit muddy, but as a stand alone recorder it comes out very quiet, even at high gain (+6) could i have a faulty one ?
@iancraig7 ай бұрын
I had similar so I turned up the gain on the camera to +12 and the gain was better. It is weird in that the transmitter seems to remember what gain it was remotely set at and uses this to record. The DJI original wireless is the same. Try full gain.

Sounds amazing! What do you think would be the best stereo microphone for recording outside? I record video while running and would like a good mic I can put a blip on or big dead cat, when you are running there can be lots of wind that can ruin the video. I thought that I could record separately then combine the audio with the video. I want to be able to get all the ambiance of the run.
@iancraig7 ай бұрын
Thanks John. I use two stereo mics. One is the Rode Stereomic which sits quite upright. The other is the Sennheiser mke440. Both are pretty good. I have them in deadcats. For running, another option might be the two lavs wired in stereo from MicBooster.com. They are here: micbooster.com/clippy-and-pluggy-microphones/98-2323-clippy-stereo-em272-microphone.html#/84-plug_type-right_angle/202-microphone-em272m. Not cheap but you could clip one to each side of your body to give left and right sound. It would sound more spaced out than the Sennheiser or Rode because they are omni and not forward directional, but they do capture great ambience. The Clippy lavaliers are quite large but very low noise. You could pin one to each side of your head which will give almost a binaural sound….

You had fun with that Bluetooth mic! I have found that the distance away you can get with Bluetooth depends on interference. In the house, where there are lots of other devices then you can't get too far away! That GoPro doesn't seem to do backlight compensation? Thanks for uploading.
@iancraig7 ай бұрын
I didn’t use a GoPro. The video was made with the Action 4 because the mic connects directly with the camera with no receiver needed. Was there somewhere I went into the shade? I used a manual setting with an nd filter and 1/40th shutter. So if it went dark and I was moving, the camera wouldn’t have compensated, but I can’t find a dark clip where I’m back lit. This was heavily backlit, but I’m not in the shade …. 01:03 I used a tiny light for my face. The transmitter also records in 32 bit, so if the Bluetooth connection goes, the audio remains on the transmitter. It opens up other cameras that don’t have a mic input actually, like my Canon m100 which I really like for its size but don’t like the lack of mic input. With this, I can record on the transmitter.

Do you have also the receiver? Have you compared the quality of the sound when transmitting via bluetooth with the native connection via the receiver? How much do we lose by switching to bluetooth?
@iancraig7 ай бұрын
No. I only have the transmitter. I already have the original DJI Wireless and didn’t want another full set. Just something to stop having to use a receiver with the Action. The quality of the audio has really surprised me. Didn’t expect it to be anything like as good as it is. There is (I think) some kind of matching going on because the transmitter is nowhere near as good going into the Ace Pro. For some reason, the Action sounds really good with it.
@WillPeterson5 ай бұрын
If I use the Action 4 camera to change all settings on a Mic 2 transmitter (32 bit float, low cut filter, etc), do those settings stay that way on the transmitter, even if I later use the transmitter on it's own without the Action 4? I'm trying to decide whether I can buy just the transmitters without the receiver, and use my Action 4 to basically get full functionality out of the transmitters, apply settings I want, and then later use the transmitters as standalone onboard recording. Thanks!
@iancraig5 ай бұрын
The low cut and 32 bit recording switches are on the camera and those settings stay with the transmitter once set. The recordings are then 32 bit on the transmitter when you offload them.

Did you click any buttons on the action 4 to pair it or only the transmitter ?
@iancraig3 ай бұрын
@@mjay7238 Yes. You pair the mic to the camera via the camera menu and the pairing button on the transmitter/mic. You go into ‘wireless mic’ and press ‘TX’ so that the camera starts searching and also the ‘pairing button’ on the mic. After a short while, they link and you press ‘Confirm’. That’s it. Once paired, it should work automatically after that.
