I'm glad to see the wide angle lens is available upon release of the drone. The cons of this wide angle lens apply to almost any low cost wide angle lens. I mostly use these drone wide angle lens for photos, rather than video, its easier to correct the distortion issues on photos. Great review, thanks for sharing.

Yes, I fully agree, for photo it’s simple, in video you’d really need to be careful with your angles.

In the beginning of the flight, it felt like the drone was going up and then down on its own because the field was not level, it had slopes. The drone was maintaining perfect altitude above sea level.
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
I hope it was that, as I’ve had drones do that in the past, raise by themselves. Afterwards it was completely fine, so maybe you’re right.

I had the same incident as well where my drone just drifted some other place though I wanted to go straight.
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
@@irhuz8683 This happened with my Mini 4 Pro too, it would do this in certain places. Here I flew it forward, nothing else, and as you saw it just started rising by itself, a kind of hairy situation as there were electric cables ahead, and if someone wouldn't be aware, that could have been a nasty accident.
@irhuz86833 ай бұрын
@@PhillipSkraba I can confirm happened with my M4P too. I wanted to go straight but it drifted. Just to be clear, it's "going" to the point I wanna it to go, but not straight straight. It's some sort of a drifted straight. And mine happened as it was flying back to me. When it was flying to that point of destination, it was straight straight. Bizzare. Funny the landscape was the same as yours i.e. wide with no buildings. Just nature.

This new Air 3S seems more resistant to magnetic interference than the older DJI Go4 models I am accustomed to flying. Placing an older DJI drone on a car's hood (bonnet) would trigger a magnetic interference warning but from this video clip I can see the Air 3S seems to have evolved past that vulnerability. Great review of the Air 3S' all-important camera specs. Liked and subbed fer sure.

I remember the days taking off from a car would cause havoc with the sensors, yes!! Actually even close to a car was bad.

Still has the same distortion issue sadly. You can see it clearly around the 9 min mark when you fly past the lampost. Photos are just easier/better to use 'free pano' which is really impressive

They are nice but try shooting panos or 360 sphere with it, won't let you. I got one for my Air 3, got to the top of a mountain and tried to shoot a 360 sphere, and had to come back and switch to the standard lens.
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
I don't think I've ever shot a Pano or Sphere with my drone, I use it 90% for film and 10% for photos. I don't think it's something needed for a Pano or Sphere, but for video it could come in handy.

It has never allowed it. I buy the Wide Angle Lens for all DJI Models. The Mavic 3 Pro was $179! It WILL allow Hyperlapse, and they finally allowed Quickshots, Mastershots and Photos, but originally none of those worked with it. Plus Mavic 3 mistook certain ND Filters as Wide Angle Lens. It's OK, but the Air 3S was the first time I didn't order it with the drone. I may wait to grab it until I sell off the Air 3.

Nice Video. Thanks for sharing. :) Whats your opinion on the original ND-filters? I havent really found any reviews on them and I remember that on the Air 3, the DJI Filters werent split, so everyone was using off brand split filters. What about the 3s? Thanks in advance. :) I will receive mine tomorrow and am really looking forward to it. Will definitly check out your channel for more videos. Have a nice day.
@PhillipSkrabaАй бұрын
I personally use the split Freewell filters and they do a fantastic job. The DJI ones are fine but the overall ND on them should really have taken notes from Freewell, who in fact took notes from Philip Bloom.
@BlairAir3 ай бұрын
I am getting just a bit TIRED of buying Wide Angle Lenses for my DJI Drones. The cheapest was Mini 4 Pro at $44, the most expensive Mavic 3 Pro at $179. This one was $69. In general you don't get drastic FOV changes but it can add to Panorama (except DJI senses it and because their programed pano would stitch wrong.. it prevents it.) Curious about the new custom Pano. The other use that looks good, albeit with some barrel distortion) is flying close to stuff. That can look good. 👍
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
I literally only use it for video. They are never cheap, I have all of them too, also bought them all myself. Mavic 3 hurt. For cinematography, sure, they’ll work, but for photos and panoramas I’d ignore it.
@BlairAir3 ай бұрын
@@PhillipSkraba Good point. The one I take exception to is Hyperlapse. I've had a fair degree of success with opening them up. I know you don't spend (waste?) much time with autonomous flight modes, but... use course lock. Lock direction, THEN, select a subject that sticks into the sky draw a box on it. The drone will fly past, turing to face, then flying out backwards. As the program runs you can start high altitude, drop as you pass subject then up an out (all manual left stick.) Sounds crazy. Looks crazy good. 🫡😏
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
@@BlairAir I hardly ever use the autonomous modes, yep. I do just about everything manually, in fact I even like doing follow mode by hand, which is Europe is a skillset as we can’t pull back more than 50m anyway.

Here in the USA Part 107 or any drone is fly line of sight or if flying out past line of sight then need observers with line of sight and a way to communicate with the PIC. Here the FAA watches youtube videos and goes after people. Shocked at how many people ignore the rules and post videos while ignoring the laws. ( I expect you live out of the U.S. so different sUAV drone/flight rules)
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
Ohh those FAA ninjas! Put a scream mask on it’s not you flying, right?

Thing is so many people have no idea, have never done a full license or exam and fly like idiots. I had to do a 3 day license, fly in front of an examiner with an Inspire 1, no camera, it was hard as hell. Nowadays you sit online, do a test the internet gives you the answers to and go fly. That’s where the problem lies, even a Mini 4 Pro can cause havoc in the wrong hands. I understand why the FAA gets pissed.
@GettingthruLife3 ай бұрын
@@PhillipSkraba I took my exam 3 or 4 years ago, pretty difficult. Like becoming an actual pilot of a small aircraft. I got a 91 after a lot of study. I take flying very seriously as anyone flying an object in busy airspace should. I just mentioned the details because so many disregard rules and thereby we get more and more rules which makes flying more difficult. I fly for my job so it's even more important to me. I'm not trying to create animosity just stating what is.
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
I was the only one in the class to get a 100 clean, but I was studying like a mad man, I guess I forgot 99% of what was studied back then though, naturally. I totally agree, I think a lot of people are completely unaware of the dangers, or have no idea what to do and how not to panic in a hairy situation. I've seen people fly like idiots, totally oblivious to their surroundings, and whilst most have no idea about the rules, the most important part of flying is using common sense, which unfortunately in these times a lot of people lack.

i think wide drone lenses are mostly useful for interior shots, otherwise i'd just back up.
@PhillipSkraba3 ай бұрын
Yes, though the distortion is a little too crazy for interiors. I think most of us will be backing up.
@michallispl3 ай бұрын
There is another downside to this lens, apart from the distortion, you can't use ND filters which actually shows in your footage. There's this woble, jitter or jello related to really fast shutter speeds visible from time to time. That's should be mitigated during sunrise / sunset but still something to keep in mind.

From my understanding this lens makes sense for someone who does real estate photography in cities where buildings are close together or trees are in the way blocking a full view... other than that its useless

I think the distortion would make it bad for real estate work to be honest. I think it's more for artistic purposes or if you really need that extra little space in a project.

@@PhillipSkraba I hear what youre saying.. I still believe its made for that technical shot close up to subjects. Not for the money shot but for specific technical shots..when delivering 20 photos of a building using the wide angle lens for 1 or 2 shots total can be useful in cityscapes
