Hello everyone! I have never flown FPV before and I just bought my first FPV Drone: the DJI Avata. I decided to document my learning process so you can share in my many fails and hopefully learn from all my mistakes!
I read that the DJI Avata is one of most beginner friendly drones for people who want to learn to fly FPV. I've been flying drones for a few years but I've never tried FPV. My first drone was a Mavic Mini (the original Mavic Mini!) and I really enjoyed flying it and have flown many other drones in recent years such as the Mavic Air, etc. However, I have NEVER flown FPV and I am quickly learning that FPV is a TOTALLY different ball game. At first, I was quite put off by not being able to see the drone and instead actually BEING the drone.... but I am getting used to it - and actually it's become really fun! As you'll see in my more recent videos...
I am starting out with the joystick-like motion controller as I've been told it's easier to learn FPV with this kind of controller first. I am going to switch to the remote controller later and I plan to learn how to fly FPV in manual mode later too! So far, I've only controlled drones with the remote controller so the joystick feels a little foreign - but with practice I am actually starting to like it. It's very intuitive and pretty easy to use after a little bit of practice.
I'll be giving reviews of the Avata throughout these videos and sharing with you how easy or difficult the learning process is! So far, it's a lot harder than I first thought! But I think I am starting to get the hang of it.
I get the feeling that crashing is going to be a big part of flying FPV. I hardly ever crashed my other drones but I've already crashed the DJI Avata a number of times - on the APP and in person!
In this video I go through the basic commands and just go over take off and landing. I haven't got much space in my garden (space is unfortunately pretty limited here in Hong Kong). So, I will do another video where I actually do a first proper flight. This was a more a practise run so I could get the hand of the basics - including take off and landing!
So, here it goes! I have absolutely no idea what I am doing when it comes to FPV. Welcome to this series that will document my FPV learning process and all the mistakes I am bound to make. I hope I don't crash too much!
