Helpful! What about D-Cinelike (for us older dronists)? Is it similar to D-LogM or HLG? Worse?

Similar to D-LogM, I would treat it a similar way. It’s basically just a Rec .709 profile with a little more contrast than D-LogM, so adjustments will have to be pretty minimal.

What about D-log M vs HLG? Dji air 2s in my case. Heard somewhere that hlg has a wider color space than d-log m

Yes, HLG records in Rec.2020, which is wider than whatever D-LogM encodes, but it’s the equivalent of a baked-in look of Rec.709, just intended for HDR. So yes you get a bigger color gamut but then you’re working with transforming HLG to Rec.709 gamma and the controls will feel strange. Personally, I’d still choose D-Log M between the two.

Do you always work in a Rec709 timeline color space or ever use a wider gamut working space like DWG? I guess for D-Log M footage it’s not really possible to get that to a different working space but just curious for other log footage if you typically work in a 709 timeline

I use both, depends on the project. For commercials I typically use DaVinci YRGB and do the color management on the node level. Sometimes I leave it in Rec.709, sometimes I do a DWG sandwich. For documentaries with lots of different cameras and formats, I find working in DaVinci YRGB Color Managed with automatic color management turned on and a DWG working space is beneficial and saves me a lot of time, but I don’t feel as much control over the nuances of the final image because I’m stuck inside DWG the whole time. Definitely want to make a video about this but hope that helps.

What's the difference between this lut pack and your previous D Log M drone lut pack? Surely they're the same?

The pack called “Drone LUT Pack” was more of a generic pack of creative LUTs meant for aerial drone footage. I also put out a free D-LogM LUT a long time ago but I’ve developed a ton since then. So the difference is that this pack is specifically tailored for D-Log and D-LogM and you’ll get much more accurate results.
