It's worth noting that a micro 4/3 sensor has a 2x crop factor as a 35mm full frame sensor. This means that F11 on a FF sensor is equivalent to F5.6 in terms of depth of field, and a 12mm on the Olympus works out to 24mm on FF too. This means that photographing at around F5.6 will give you optimum sharpness. At above F8 you will most certainly start to degrade the image quality. It's one of the big advantages of micro 4/3 sensors. You get a lot more light at F5.6 into the lens and you also get a great depth of field.

I typed that before I watch the rest of the video when you got to the video portion of showing the buildings I remembered watching it a while back. Lol didn't even think about seeing how old the video was.

Nick, good instructional video. Are you not a bit too close to the road and houses? CAA 50 metres etc.
@tampabayskycam63428 жыл бұрын
I bought the Olympus 12mm from B&H Foto in Chicago. They told me that I needed a lightweight filter (UV) and a lens hood to properly make up for the weight difference between the 15mm and the 12. No problems with that setup.

Good to see some more X5 tests out here. Not a lot of them around. You might want to consider putting your cell phone in another room when you record audio to mitigate the iPhone buzzing effect.

I don't have an iPhone and I can't hear any buzzing?

Actually, I did hear the buzzing at around 13:10...well spotted ; ) ...and it is a Samsung.

The term is "graded" rather than "edited". And on the Olympus lens, if you pull the focus ring back you go into manual focus where you can set the focus to the infinity symbol. That is the hyper focal distance where the max range is in focus. Cheers
@NickStubbs8 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know about hyperfocal distance and use infinity most of the time on the inspire. Trouble is, when you take the X5 and put it on the Osmo, focus is way off when using infinity and focusing is tough as the ipod has no peaking. Needs careful attention...
@ChadWork18 жыл бұрын
Ah, I see. I was thinking of aerial. I have the Olympus for when I was flying my GH4. Now I have the Inspire 1 with the X3. I was waiting for the X5R, but now I'm let down with the lack of record quality options. I didn't want RAW. I just want ProResLT. I have the money for the X5R, but with the post workflow it's just not a practical solution. So now I'm examining the regular X5. Too bad there's no peaking in the DJI Go app. I guess you just nave to use a higher aperture number for a deeper depth of field.
@NickStubbs8 жыл бұрын
Indeed and there is peaking (on go app) on the X5 on the inspire with my iPad mini 4 but not on the Osmo with X5 and ipod 6...
@ChadWork18 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I would think that since the app is the same it would have the dame functions on different devices. I have the iPod Mini2 and the iPhone 6s Plus. We definately need peaking on smaller screens. Oy. It's always something with DJI!
@cfireguy028 жыл бұрын
Idk if someone else told you this or not, but turn on your controller (not the DJI app) then turn on the inspire and give it just a second or 2 then open the app and then hit the camera to get into the main menu. It seems to be updating even though you already did it and I believe if you try it the way I said it will stop all that and just warm up the motors.

Yes, this video is nearly a year old now and I have had zero problems with it. Love the Inspire!

Old Video, but the camera was never balanced on the gimbal causing all the issues.
@NickStubbs4 жыл бұрын
I forgot about this video, 4 years ago...wow. I was such a nervous flyer back then. I flew in light rain and 30+ mph gusts last week 🤓😁 Not sure if balancing was the problem, I have flown multiple times without balancing the gimbal since, with the X5R too with no problems (sometimes I take the filter off). It stopped soon after this but can't remember how I fixed it.

Nick, Thanks for going to the trouble of sharing your video tests with us. I am holding off on the X5 because I have seen so much 'choppy' footage from this camera. In fact my own X3 footage suffers the same in anything other than 1080p 60fps. Moving cars can be awful in 4K. I edit on a 5k iMac using FCPX and whilst I will always consider the problem lies with my hardware it is difficult to believe this high end Mac would suffer; And if it was, why is footage from other cameras including GoPro as smooth as silk? Makes no difference if I watch files with quicktime or VLC and regardless of shutter speed it is always there with DJI. DJI don't want to speak to me about it but the internet is full of people equally disappointed with their cameras so I don't think it is just me.
@NickStubbs8 жыл бұрын
+290Alenka Fair comments but I recently got some very smooth footage. These clips were shot in 4k at 29.97 (for the hell of it)... kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaG0k4x_d9Wrgc0
@290Alenka8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Stubbs Agree with you. Nice smooth footage but I find the real problems are with any shots that feature trains, boats and cars. Especially left to right or vice versa. running top to bottom no problem. Perhaps something to do with the way DJI try to minimise rolling shutter?

I had that and it wanted me to update the imu, but the gimbal was trying to initialize and that blocked the imu calibration somehow. So I took too the camera, then calibrated the imu. The gimbal was fine after that.

Hi! I have just got my inspire 1 pro, and I cannot for the life of me sort it out. I performed a firmware update as promoted in the app. Now the lens goes limp every time and the annoying sound occurs with and without the camera on! What do I do? :( thanks in advanced.

What sound? Did the update finish correctly? Have you balanced the gimbal before starting up?

Sounds very bright, go for a stronger Nd filter to retain a suitable shutter speed. Maybe get a couple...3 stops and 6 stops.

Is it possible you left the firmware file on the sd card? It's doing exactly what it does while updating, beeping, and gimbal being off. To test, format your ad card and retry with it in the x5.
@NickStubbs9 жыл бұрын
No, the card was blank. Problem solved by adding ND filter...

Thats odd, did your X5 not come with the balance ring? If so, was it on and still happening?

+Andre P I only bought the standalone X5 camera...no lens as I had the Olympus 12mm already so no balancing ring included. Just wish sellers would understand and inform more about these issues. All issues gone now I have the ND filter on. Flew 4 batteries the other day with no problems...

What's causing the brightness jumps ? Are you shooting in some AP mode ?
@NickStubbs9 жыл бұрын
It's being in auto exposure causing the problem. As the camera moves to a lighter or darker scene, the iso, aperture or shutter speed changes causing the jump. Best thing to do is shoot in manual or use exposure lock in auto mode once you are happy with the look of your shot.

+Andrei - Calin Zaitiu I did, the problem was actually the fact that I didn't have a filter on the lens therefore the balance was out. As soon as I added a filter, the issue was resolved!
