You asked so I am telling you kindly, I bought the Mavic 2 Pro and it has the Hasselblad. It is awesome and I have several other DJI drones now but this one is incredible, lands on a tack mark every time, Reliable, and manual focus displays videos and pictures beyond belief. I also received the Fly more combo as it is a great deal with the multi charger that charges one battery after another is completed. I have been practicing and learning its abilities for 2 weeks now and it is amazing. Make sure to mention touching the screen flying you can point to where the gimbal will move the camera to!! It basically goes anywhere like a passenger in a plane. That is an amazing gimbal movelment not have to turn the turn or crab it to view items not in front!!!!! DJI is amazing and what a drone! Just want to say I appreciate your non fanboy approach. I have watched several videos today and I could just gag watching some of them. You take that fair and balanced stance and I appreciate that. Wow. I say watch the video again. Actually listen to what he says and not what you THINK he is saying. He is actually quite the popular youtuber and is known for honest and fair reviews. He admits the zoom is not too much of an upgrade. Look at the hype from the last month. Look at the cancellation of the event last month to come out with a 1" sensor that can't do 4K at 60 fps. These are jokes. Also, hate to tell you, but you sound like a very serious fanboy.

As a "value" hobbyist, I'm more than content with my MP1. Yes, this MP2 has some great improvements, but it's not like most of us are pushing the capabilities of our old Mavics. An extra mile and a few min of flight time isn't worth paying double.

I’d like to see a really in-depth assessment of the Hasselblad camera. How well does the 10 bit D-log work? How easy is it to use the variable aperture during flight? How well does the dynamic range handle low level light? Is the camera noisy in low light! Filters for the camera? Etc. etc. etc.

I just had a look at DJI FAQ, not only can you switch cameras via DJI service, but you can in the future use the old Mavic controller with the Mavic 2. Nothing beats having a spare!

I was really excited to see the launch today. I have been sorta anxious about DJI’s offering today because I bought the Anafi a month ago. But after I saw the price of these drones today, I’m extremely happy I kept the Anafi. The Anafi, after having time to learn and to adjust the manual camera settings, is a excellent drone and very capable for its size. It’s really not a thought anymore to unpack it in seconds and throw it up in the air to get a quick shot. ]]]] I am definitely looking forward, down the road though, to pick up the Mavic pro 2 when maybe the prices come down. Very exciting year with all these companies coming out with so many new drones!

I love the Anafi as well. Fun and easy drone to use and get nice shots. And it has a zoom that works well, including the Dolly Zoom feature that also works well.

I sold my P4A and bought a Mavic Air then sold my Mavic Pro and got a Mavic 2 zoom. Sale for $1070 on the M2z and $500 for the MA so not so bad. I have not taken the M2 for a ride yet but will soon. I just hope it's better in low light than the old MP.

Thank you. I really like my Phantom 4 Pro. The Phantom handles so differently than a Mavic. To me it is more of a workhorse. But to answer you question, if I had to choose between the 2, I would go for the Mavic 2 Pro.

The pro for sure. The quality is honestly amazing. But having the zoom is extremely useful. Do I wish they just made the pro camera zoom as well so I didn’t need to spend an extra 1250 dollars, yes. Lol. I wud say if you can afford it get both. Also swapping cameras isn’t that hard just a ribbon cable and a few screws so u can do that if you want, it’s plug and play.

The Autel EVO has a great camera. For video image I would say it is better than the Mavic 2 Zoom, especially since it also does 60 FPS. However, that is where the greatness ends. The EVO does not take photos as good as the Zoom does, the EVO does not have all the sensors the ZOOM does, The EVO does not have the obstacle avoidance the Zoom does, The EVO does not have the quickshots and hyperlapse and optical zoom that the Mavic 2 Zoom does. So when you consider the entire package, the Zoom comes out on top for most people.

I watched a video to take off the mavic 2 zoom camera lens so I can put on the uv filter. They said use a glove, do you know a safer way to remove the original len to replace it with a uv filter?

I have had the Phantom 4 Pro since 2016 & it has the full featured one inch sensor. No one really knows what portion of the Mavic 2 Pro camera is Hasselblad? We know it is not the sensor, so is it then the firmware? If only DJI had permitted the camera on the Mavic 2 Pro to be full featured like on the Phantom 4 Pro, that would have been great on a small portable drone.

I have ordered Zoom version. I frequently fly over mountains and with good light. From the footage from both varieties of Mavic 2, it is hard to see the difference. I am not postprocessing my videos and unlikely do the color grading I would rather never use the capabilities of the Pro version. I own Mavic Air which has similar camera and I am quite happy with quality of the videos already. The Air's main problem is radio interference which limits the range drastically and unpredictably. Zoom in camera can add some capabilities when filming animals or climbers for example, which I frequently do. For the difference in price between Zoom and Pro I may afford the Fly More kit.

I’m keeping my old DJI Phantom 2 and my Spark. Like the new ones that just got out, but how can you keep up with it? I suppose one day. The next day after, a new one will come out with something on it better than you just bought. If they had a plan to buy back your old one for a new one!! I got the Mavic Air in Feb. I like the price, size, camera and flight modes. The pro 2 hyperlapse functions with waypoints are awesome. And zoom function looks great. But the price. Too much for my blood. The MA is right for me. Glad I didn’t wait 9 months for it. I wonder if these two new drones have all the quickshot modes of the MA

I have the Phantom 4 Pro as well. I only ordered the Mavic 2 Pro because I'm a reviewer of drones so I kind of need one. I went with the Mavic 2 Pro only because I really like the camera on the Phantom 4 Pro and would use the same in a smaller package. Also I have the Parrot Anafi with the ZOOM functions, for that purpose.

when you have the freedom to get closer with your drone camera what would be the point of getting the zoom vs pro2 with the better sensor ? 99percent of the video or pictures i do on the ground i use fixed lenses most 35mm or less i just get closer to the subject with my drone if needed

Steve, the optical zoom does a nice trick of pulling in the background when filming close to a subject. It is just another option to film. Also, sometimes you can't get to close to your subject (building, event, structure, etc), so it is nice to zoom in and get that zoom look. Sure, you can crop an image on your computer, but it will be missing the benefit of a zoom which pulls in the background.

I agree with some of the other comments about your non-bias reviews of the drones and they're well appreciated. I have a Spark and the first drone from DJI and impressed by the quality of the product. I'm just curious when people acquire the new product and start comparing to what's on the market. I love the comment on "glitch gate", as most new drones have some bugs to work out. We'll see and I will stay tuned.

@Steve 2 points: 1.) Can it finally track below it's starting position? I want to track myself on skis going downhill and would be great if it could follow me down the hill and not fly in same level. That is really stupid restriction, especially when they have improved bottom sensors. 2.) If they did split those 2 most important features (1 inch sensor and zoom, I am really angry about that), they could at least allow people to buy whole gimbal including camera and make them interchangeable by users. They obviously can do that, as you mention they can do it if you change your mind, so why should I buy 2 drones instead of 1 drone and 2 gimbals with camera. I would not mind pay another 500 for zoom gimbal and camera. Looking forward for your review, please mention how fast did the Mavic 2 arrived after placing order and please compare the pro with zoom in low light. I am curious how big difference in quality it will be (sunset, cloudy day, maybe even night).

Hi Mat, the question concerning the follow me is one that I don't have an answer to yet. As for the camera/gimbal, Yes DJI could have made it user swappable but I guess that want to make more money by having us pay for the camera and installation. They may have some deal where you can trade in your camera to save some money when getting another one installed. So far it would appear that some people that placed an order during the event announcement have received a shipment notice. I did place an order at that same time, yet I have not received any notice (could be because I'm in Canada and they bulk ship orders to save on shipping costs... more shipments to the US than to Canada).

Best comparison of the specs I have seen today. Good job on that! I presently have have the Mavic Pro Platinum with the flymore package and plan to stand pat for a while. I consider myself an advanced beginner pilot even tho this is my fifth drone and will likely consider moving to a Mavic 2 Pro whenever I feel my piloting is worthy. This may also provide a window of time for the real-time use glitches to get resolved. I am less interested in the zoom as I want a better sensor. I am also concerned that running the zoom on top of piloting the UAV will have a challenging learning curve.

Great review Steve. Keep up the great work ! The event was incredible. The Mavic 2 feels very solid. There was a space to fly them in back of the venue. Very fast a much quieter. 6:35 the Hasselblad thing, I read that they bought hasselblad to make good and light lenses. But AFAIK Hasselblad made like 60,000 $ camears to idk how that may be protitable. One question to you, ATM im just flying a parrot disco for fun since i dont have the biggest budget ( New Mavic Pro is out of reach, probably 600-700 $ budget. I wanna get more into photography drones since im originally only into drones because of photography. I figured the best bang for the buck would be either a older Phantom 3 or a old used Mavic pro, what is your opinion on that ? Im only really looking at picture quality and stabilization. Range doesnt really matter that much.

I have a P4 Pro but just ordered the mavic 2 pro. It seems to be basically the same camera but the size difference is the deal maker for me. When im out on a shoot I cant carry my P4 and my cameras as I need 2 big bags. With this size the mavic should fit in my current camera bag. I have the mavic air and that has become my most used drone just because of the size. I feel this is what ive been waiting for. A good camera but a small body.

Yeah that is weird about the Photo mode on the Parrot Anafi. I have not tried the photo with zoom on the Mavic 2, but I would say that since it is OPTICAL vice DIGITAL, it will work in Photo mode.

I have a mavic pro for shooting buildings, high rises, townhomes, warehouses. I am in the painting business. I am learning drone flying. I understand that the mavic 2 has better sensors. Would you upgrade from the mavic pro? If so mavic 2 pro or mavic 2 zoom? Or would you go with the Anafi? Understand that there are no flight restrictions but no sensors either. I have had to fly in a town house area close to airport and I couldn't get a picture on my tablet. Any comments? thanks for your videos.

Probably overkill for what you need a drone for. DJI drones do have no fly zones. If filming buildings then you should only be flying above your head and not far away from you because you will loose connection. The original Mavic Pro would be fine (costs much less). The ANAFI has no restrictions but it does not have a good video feed near buildings. The Mavic Air has sensors (front & back) but is noisy. For what you want to use a drone for the MAVIC 2 series of drones are way more than you need.

Since they self discharge, storage is just keeping them at room temperature with normal humidity.

As of today, it is unfortunately not an option. DJI is pushing their Crystal Sky monitors for such a purpose.

Do you guys know if DJI does hardware revisions post launch? Like very often happens for smartphones..? I'm unsure if I can get it straight away or wait a few months.. The software bit I'm not worried about as usual they'll release constant updates..

Yes, they have in the past, but they are very minor revisions and do not add new features, but rather just fix/correct existing ones.

Captain drone I ordered the Mavic to pro because I love the way my regular old Mavic flies my phantom for pro flies like a brick even though it has wonderful video and great pictures there’s a lot a little bugs have the plus with the screen but mine will arrive already being shipped on Wednesday before 12 noon so yeah mine is in route but I did buy at 10:05 on the 23rd I’ll keep you posted

When the Mavic launched in 2016 it was sort of like when the iPhone first launched.... it was different with tons of features and everyone wanted one. Since then, drones all seem to be foldable and portable with higher end features. The X-Star is not in demand, so it will soon phase out. The Phantom is the icon that everyone associates with DJI, so I can't see that going. But I'm guessing the next Phantom will be foldable for portability (unfold the landing legs before flight).

Herr Leeker i love it when people just buy things they don’t need to impress people they don’t like. Yeah i’ll say it like it is! That damn drone it just too expensive. It’s not that i can’t afford it. In my opinion it shouldn’t cost that much. It is the same Mavic pro just added features. If it has 4k with 60 or 120fps then that would be a different story. You can call me cheap all you want! I know i spend my money wisely.

Great channel and reviews, Will I sell my current Mavic Pro?... I would want both features of the 1" sensor and zoom but I wouldn't buy both models therefore I will buy neither = STRIKE 1..additional power hungry avoidance cameras and a couple on mins more flight time? has necessitated a new battery I assume which means additional batteries and multi chargers will have to be bought (again) = STRIKE 2....The failure to include the 180 feature of the Anafi camera which is actually worthy of the label "see the bigger picture" = STRIKE 3 . In addition the new models won't fit in current Mavic cases so this is just not enough. I expect the original idea was to have the cameras interchangeable (not by sending it away to have a swap) but had issues with this so have taken the lazy option of saying there are two models. I personally will wait for the next incarnation of the Mavic or a Phantom 5 with an even better camera and 360 rotation. DJI are running a risk with this drip feeding sales strategy in a market heading for choppy waters due to regulations and restrictions that will slow sales compared to the last few years. Stronger competition from other manufacturers is also needed.

I am curious about flight stability in high winds. I own the Phantom 4 pro and have flown it in 30+ mph wind. Not wise but I needed the shot and I got my drone back. I shot a wedding with a friend's Mavic Pro and the winds were 15+ mph and I didn't have the control that I had with my P4P. I don't know if it is a matter of mass or will the more powerful Mavic Pro 2 be the P4P's equal.

The Mavic Pro (original) does well in the wind from all the times I've tried it (video remains very stable). The new models should be the same. Most wind is not an issue for drones (drones will not flip over in wind). Where wind becomes an issue is with drones that have a limited forward speed that can not make headway against the wind. Drones such as the Spark need to be placed in Sport Mode when going against stronger winds.

Then perhaps it is as simple as drone speed vs wind speed. My P4P performs more responsively in higher winds than, in my experience, with the Mavic Pro. I am considering dumping my P4P for the new Mavic 2 as I don't see a single reason not too. I do a lot of droning around islands in Lake Michigan which have high and unpredictable winds which is why I brought up the topic.

I have the Parrot ANAFI and I really like the zoom feature on it. It certainly comes in very handy. The increased sensor size in the Pro will only be noticeable in early mornings or late evenings, or overcast days. Post a video from either drone to KZbin will almost look identical.

There is no zoom on the Pro. The zoom you were thinking of on the old Mavic Pro is not the same kind of digital zoom as on the Mavic 2 Zoom.

I have been waiting for this drone for years, I bought a Phantom 3 Pro a few years back and I love it, over the years I have had issues but refused to buy the mavic pro until they brought out a new version, as a few weeks after buying the phantom they brought out the Mavic (Kinda Hurt!) - now I saw the new announcement and immediately bought the Mavic 2 Pro - hoping that I have made the right decision :) - Great video thanks!

Just a side note, DJI recently bought a majority stake in Hasselblad... So may well be "Hasselblad" sensors/lenses thought. But that in itself begs the question, what brand is in the zoom...

Hasselblad does not make sensors (as far as I know). I believe the sensor is a Sony sensor.... which is the sensor in so many tiny cameras. The zoom more than likely also has a Sony sensor.

If you don't mind 1080p video (vice 4K video), then the DJI SPARK is good. The video is 1080p and the photos are 12 Megapixel. It is so small that you can fly it indoors or outdoors.

You can fly the MAVIC 2 without a phone or tablet. All the telemetry is on the controller, but you'll receive no video and will have no access to autonomous modes or GPS modes such as active track, orbit, etc. The Smart controller is for people who don't own a phone or tablet to fly the Mavic 2.

Thanks Steve for the great video, I knew your video would be more based on honesty. I like my DJI products but found use and fun in my others drones from different manufacturers. The couple videos that have came out earlier sound more like they are being paid by DJI then give their honest thoughts. That why I enjoy watching your videos because you give a honest opinion and I learn so much from your videos. Thank you for all your time and information and keep it coming. I think I'll be living my Mavic 2 wants through you for awhile. Being still kinda new in drones and just starting to learn editing for my own videos that the advances in the camera wouldn't be even getting used. remember it is only a 12 mp cam not 48. You can stitch for pano in PS and get the same image. Ray C. FLorida Hasselblad is the one to get.
