Hey, HLG with SkyGrades Natural LUTs designed for HLG would look identical to the current Dlog-M version of the LUTs used on Dlog-M footage, so there's not a point to doing it. HLG isn't superior to Dlog-M, it's just a different type of recording designed for straight to HDR playback. See Alister Chapman, who knows much more than I do, explain it here : kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqe3ipuNoKeLl7c

This has to be one of, if not THE clearest, to the point, no-nonsense videos on how to set up a drone and use it to its max ability, that I've ever seen, and I've been flying drones for years. Ive seen all the vlogs dragged out for ages, failing to get to the point, but this one, coming from someone who is obviously a professional in the filming business and wasting no-ones time at all, thank you. I even bought all of your effects packages because I felt it was worth it. Hopefully I'll be able to maximise the ability of my new mp2 when it arrives this week. 1. This tutorial was edited, sound designed, and presented in an extremely top notch way. I’m personally growing tired of Vlog-torials as they really start to become a waste of time for the viewer. 2. I think you’ve really managed to inch out every last bit of usability from this camera. It’s not perfect but its definitely the best portable option for sure. 3 .How does the footage take to adding extra sharpening in post? The footage straight off of the camera is a bit soft for my taste and I was curious if adding any extra post sharpening could bring it back to P4P type level sharpness? Heck, if that’s possible without it falling apart then we could have a definitive winner between the 2 drones footage, and it could be (with added TLC) the M2P
@thefilmpoets6 жыл бұрын
Fly Guy Fly Guy 1. Thanks for noticing. It takes a long tome to make a tutorial this concise, but it respects everyone else’s time. 2. Exactly. The p4pro is better but it’s not an option for a lot of people, including me. The mp2 is the best portable drone right now, even with its downsides. 3.the footage will take to post sharpening pretty well because of the low noise in the sensor. The best sharpening program in the world is Neat Video because you feed it the noise profile, and it won’t sharpen the noise at all. I’ll add a sharpening preset to the noise profile pack. Looks great. Thanks for the comments!

Wow! I bet it's the best video about the best drone settings that I have ever seen. No joke. Subbed. And, I think, it's the second video about "cinematic" settings, where was said nothing about 24 fps. Because "cinematic" for digital media is about high picture and sound quality and not about some sort of cinema equipment standards. Also 24/25 fps are mathematically incompatible with drone footage + KZbin, but 30 are.

Hey, watched this video to try and figure out the 24 vs 30 thing. Been shooting in 24, but it seems tough to get a good crisp image. I assume you are shooting in 30? Do you think mixing other footage on a 24 fps timeline would make sense with 30fps drone footage? - a little perplexed

What are your thoughts on DJI scamming their customers using false advertising and touting features and sensor sizes that they purposefully gimp? Cliff Totten’s work exposes line skipping, non-utilized image sensor areas and basically half res just upscaled. It’s horrible and DJI needs to address it head on. If the hacking community figures out a way to adjust this and turn back on full resolution it will confirm they gimped it on purpose to artificially differentiate from their phantom line.
@thefilmpoets6 жыл бұрын
Burnouts And Bourbon I’m no stranger to calling out DJI. I did just that with the original Mavic Pro’s heavy in-camera noise reduction. But I don’t think DJI is scamming anyone, there are a few reasons: 1. It’s not lineskipping, but pixel binning. Line skipping would have insane moire and aliasing. The mp2 has very little. I’d prefer a full readout though. 2. DJI likely has separate departments for Mavic and Phantom. Meaning the Mavic guys would want to make the best Mavic possible, they wouldn’t care about the Phantom. And dji wouldn’t either because they are similar prices. It’s more likely that a foldable drone, which was unheard of just a few years ago, overheats with 10bit and full sensor readout. I could be wrong, but that’s more likely than assuming that dji thinks no-one will notice pixel binning. I have to say that I’m ok with the slightly softer image, my main problem with drones has been the oversharpened- digital look and the crazy noise, not detail. The m2p solves those problems while creating a much smaller issue. So yes I would have loved an exact match to the phantom 4, but my clients and weddings aren’t going to notice.

@@thefilmpoets. Fully agree with your vision. I have been filming the street from my window to find out the sharpest aperture. I realized that in 4k HQ I can read the same car license plates, and I can see the bricks of the buildings at the same distance on the TV screen as in direct vision. The perspective and field of view is not too different neither. In other words, the only way to notice a higher resolution is looking at small portions of the screen. At one meter from the screen I am not able to perceive a higher level of detail. Resolution and sharpness are overrated in my opinion. A clean and natural image is more important in my opinion
@alexrothbard43246 жыл бұрын
I saw the response from dji to cliff and they apparently aren’t pixel binning or line skipping. They do have to make a few sacrifices due to the small size, but what they are doing looks much better than binning and line skipping. Also dronexfactor brought up a good point that the m2 and p4p have different focal lengths and he thinks cliff placed the drones at different lengths from the testing boards to get the same FOV for both drones which wud make the test less accurate. And pixel peeping aside just get the thing up in the air and take some shots and you will see the quality is truly amazing. Don’t get me wrong tho dji needs to be heavily critiqued and called out on any flaw because any company that owns the market is a scary thing. What I’m most upset about is how the rear gimbal motors get scratched through normal use due to chafing on the plastic hooks on the gimbal bracket:( not very good quality control and testing standards. Also the barrel distortion should have been addressed for a so called “hasselblad” camera lol.

@DennisSchmitz6 жыл бұрын
On the Mavic Pro I rather went for 0 sharpening because of the codec literally freaking out when even more oversharpening (which sharpened noise as well) was added. On the P4P I set sharpening to -2 which gave me a visually almost perfect picture with low sharpening artifacts using the H264 codec. The H265 codec blurred low contrast texture (same issue on the new Fuji X-T3)...

I'd love to hear more on your thought process for nailing the exposure, specifically for D-log M. I notice a lot of your example shots (excellent btw!) are shot directly into the sun. For instance, the bales of hay on the field at 00:30, that entire sky was clipping at 100+ IRE when you were filming, correct? Are those 100+ IRE parts of the image completely unrecoverable? Would love to hear more on how you make these kinds of decisions for different shots!
@thefilmpoets3 жыл бұрын
I try to maintain highlights when exposing for the most part. When shooting into the sun the scene will exceed what the camera's dynamic range cn handle, soy ou have to choose between highlight retention or shadow detail. In your example I liked the detail in the field so I let the sky clip a bit. It's really about using you're eye and knowing what works. -Matt

The menu is hard to navigate, but if you hit the settings button on the right, the 4k settings are in the camera icon, the aperture icon adjusts expsure, and the gear icon with adjust the color style (dlog-M or whatever you choose)
@kenbarnesfilms5 жыл бұрын
@@thefilmpoets Thanks a lot! My problem was that each time I went to that menu, I could only see a still camera icon. I found that tapping the controller's video record button changed it over to the video recording icon, and that's where all those settings appear. And if it helps others, the Video Size, Video Format, White Balance, Style (the place where you adjust the sharpness, contrast, etc.), Color (to switch to D-logM) and Encoding Format (H.264 or H.265, the latter necessary for D-Log M) are there. The Gear icon doesn't show a place to change to D-Log in my firmware version 4.3.16. But there is a useful 'Peaking' tool there that will help as a focus assist. I've decided to go to manual focus as the autofocus does a ridiculous 'pump' whenever the drone stops to hover. Thanks again for all your help!! Hope my comments help someone.

I know this is a old video but thank you, I have been trying to get the Mavic 2 dialed in, and I am just a photographer that wants to get in to videos and drone work, I now need to google what LUTS are and where and how to use them. Thank you again.

So Helpful again. From my experience of Mavic 1, I've been waiting your tutorial and LUTs. I've just downloaded all your LUTs. Many thanks

The Film Poets is that when you tap the screen to focus as you’re flying/recording? I don’t ever notice the focus adjusting in your shots? Doesn’t that function cause an undesirable adjustment every time you tap?

@@Ahmetal You focus before you record, or edit around it.

Absolutely fantastic video. Just bought the LUTs. Thank you! Was curious if you should overexpose like other LOG profiles? Thanks
@thefilmpoets6 жыл бұрын
Nope just expose as normal, don't clip the highlights. have fun!

@@thefilmpoets Thanks for the response! Do you know when the highlights clip? 100 IRE or higher?

Hi Great video, can you please advise me on where to put the distortion correction file in Final Cut Pro? Cheers.

Hi. This is very helpful since i've recently purchased the Mavic 2 pro. I'm still new and is learning how to fly professionally as a hobby as i do road trip so often in a year and in the long run i might look into this as side job and earn a bit of cash along the way. But for now i just need to focus on flying the drone and get used to manual flight and gimbal adjustment in air while filming. As for the iso trick. That is to be use when you're shooting in low light such as night or sunset. any tips would be very much appreciated. thanks a bunch, happy flying :)
