Today I wanted to run through the steps to calibrate your vision sensors/ system on the Mavic Air. This entire process will take about 5 minutes so let’s get into it.
First, we will need to have DJI Assistant 2 loaded onto our Mac or PC. If you don’t have this already you can find it by going to DJI’s Mavic Air’s download page, link in the description below, and through the Mavic Air page, we will click downloads and Assistant 2. Select the correct piece of software for your system and install.
Now that we know we have the Assistant 2 App on our machine we will start the program and ensure that the USB cable is plugged in and connected from the computer to Mavic. For the Mavic Air we will have 3 sensors to calibrate: forward, downward and rear.
Now that we have everything connected let's go back to the Assistant app and continue.
Once your Mavic Air is detected by your computer -- an icon will display with the Mavic Air -- click that and enter in the general settings menu. From here we will select the calibrate tab and that will lead us to the optical sensor calibration setup.
It will walk us through the steps to take in a short tutorial form display, please pay attention to this as DJI may change the way the sensors calibrate at any time. But for now, we will start with the forward facing sensors and hold the Mavic Air facing the monitor until it is recognized on the screen. Once it is recognized fit the red box into the green box and hold until solid blue and it initiates the calibration. You will draw around the box making sure your sensor square is following the predetermined pattern, but don’t worry if you overshoot or get off track just rotate back around and continue on.
Once the first pass is complete it will ask you to move the drone back away from the screen and run a second pass over the grid. This will be down in the same manor for the bottom and rear sensors just note that the USB cable attached to the back end of the Mavic air may get in the way so just fold it up onto the top of the drone and continue.
After all 6 steps of calibration are complete it will calculate the calibration information and complete. Restart your drone and you are ready to go!
Also important to note is different monitor screens of different resolution will require different distances from the screen in order to recognize and calibrate.
