I have the Spark; my first drone.. Definitely like it as its affordable and I only use it 1-2x week. Also, its very portable and I take it everywhere when I travel because its just so small. Only thing I recommend would be to have 2-3 batteries so you'll be able to capture plenty of footage when you're out and about.

After a little more research I caved in & bought the DGI Mavic Air. It was $1000 for the fly more package. Yesterday I tested it for the 1st time & I was very impressed with how well it performed. I burned through 3 batteries in about 45 minutes. I'm sure I will test it out more today.

Mavic Air is my first drone and I love it.
@miketipton6786 жыл бұрын
Which one is best? I love these videos. Well, first of all lets get the camera issues resolved. MP and MA use the same basic system. MP is more PRO feature rich in modes for Cinema, general Photography, Aperture is faster giving nearly a full stop to the lens itself. This is awesome in low light. Sensors are identical, however the Air uses a software stretching to account for Lens distortion on the edges. There are detailed YT videos for that comparison as well. MP shoots with more sharpness and has a warmer video and photo look than the Air which is more in the blue shades. Some like it, I don't. Mavic Air does have the 100m bitrate which is nice for video, but in most cases it is a softer appearance over all. Still, very nice for video IF they still had the same lens used. My guess is they went 2.8 to better fit the Air's gimbal design. The edge distortion is quite evident, but the software compression tries to fix some of it by stretching the image. Mavic Pro camera also is more what a DSLR is like with the options for those settings. Air is more like Spark and more point and shoot. Mavic Pro offers many focus points, and tap to focus on any subject. The manual focus even goes beyond infinity. Some use that for special effect, but can also be done in post edits if you know what you are doing. Mavic Pro gimbal design also allows for more upward pitch angle of the lens. This helps too in sports mode when videos are made or when the craft is in Fixed Wing modes. More able to frame subjects higher in elevation. For the actual camera Air vs Pro tests see videos from Captain Drone. He details all the differences, as well as many hidden differences other YT reviewers do not mention. Mavic Pro has a controller with the crafts data on the RC. That visual feedback is great when any App like Go4 or Litchi disconnect for whatever reason, or if the data cable fails. All telemetry is available on the MP controller itself. Mavic Pro uses Ocusync Technology for the controller which is near foolproof. Out of dozens in our local drone club that own the MP, no problems of disconnects through hundreds and hundreds of flights. Mavic Air and Spark both use Wifi for connectivity and there have been hoards of crashes and loss of signal even just after take off along with warnings of interference, magnetic interference, and so on.. With no signal from the craft and no visual feedback, more of the Wifi drones get lost due to the user panicking. Air would be better if it used Ocusync and had the displayed telemetry on the controller. Stability.. that seems to vary upon location for any of the 3. Mavic Pro seems to be the most stable in any wind directional comparison. It's heavier, arms come out more, and Props seem better to handle gusts, especially to the side of craft. Speed wise they are close, though the Spark really holds it's own against the others in Sports Mode. Air is a stable craft in lower winds but we also did some astrophotography shots in 4-5 mph winds 150' up. Mavic Pro handled the 8 second shutter and captured some cool starry detail with minimal grain, and even some nebulosity of Orion's sword area. Mavic Air would not hold a position steady enough to get a long exposure at that same height above the streetlights from the city. The distortion of the Air's lens was also apparent in what images we took. All in all, the three are really good and fun to fly. Air is a little more compact, but I'd rather have the slightly larger Pro for all the capabilities it has. For simple vacation drone, no frills, and fun to fly, the Spark is really cool for it's much lower price.

I have a Mavic Pro Platinum, and although I would love to have the Mavic Air, if I had to choose between the Mavic Air and the Mavic Pro, I would choose the Mavic Pro every time, but I do like the Mavic Air and would love to have it for the extra portability and the camera and cameras extra functions, not to mention the extra sensors and the APAS system would be great to try! Right now I have the Phantom 3 Standard, the phantom 4 pro plus, and of course I already mentioned my Mavic Pro Platinum, and the order I’ve listed these drones is also the order I bought them in, buying the p3s as my first real camera drone, before that I had various different toy grade drones, including one racer, so after saving enough money to purchase the p3s, I wanted to make sure the next drone I purchased could also be used as a professional tool for commercial use in aerial photography and videography, and I finally have saved up the money to take the part 107 test, I am now studying extra hard to make sure I can pass and hopefully with flying colors, but my main concern is passing and not having to pay to retake the test. Anyway, finishing my buying timeline of my drone collection, this previous Christmas (2017), I bought myself the Mavic Pro Platinum for my Christmas present, I bought it because I wanted a compact drone that I can travel with and take nice 4K video and 12 megapixel stills, and being as I have only operated phantoms, and where I live I don’t have any friends with drones and even if I were to find a new friend with a drone, especially a DJI drone, I doubt they would let me fly it, lol, but I don’t blame them, I’m the same way. So the Mavic was a completely new thing for me, and the hardest part of the Mavic that I had to get used to was the difference in the controllers, the size, the button placement, the way the phone connects and mounts into the remotes handles, not to mention I had gotten used to the p4p + remote, which of course has the built in screen, making using your smartphone obsolete, so it was surprisingly odd going back to using my smartphone again, and I can’t lie, using my smartphone again with a remote made me appreciate the phantom 4 pro plus remote so much more. But all in all, I’m saving my p4p + for lowlight flights, flights in special places, and most of all, commercial business flights, which I don’t have the license to do yet, so my p4p + is practically in storage mode and safely secured at my home, while I get more and more familiar with my Mavic Pro Platinum, which now that I’ve gotten used to the remote, I love, and take with me everyday to practice flying and taking aerial photography and videography, and also just flying and filing and photographing for fun. Anyway, loved the video and subscribed to see more of your videos and see what your all about, so keep filming, good job on the video, I definitely gave you a thumbs up!

James Chastain so the platinum is better?
@jameschastain19046 жыл бұрын
BklynRandom , are you planning on buying a Mavic Pro, I would go for the Platinum model, because I know that DJI only advertises that the Mavic Pro Platinum is the same all except the ESC in the motors and the propellers, and the higher flight time, but I can promise you all the tweets that the original Mavic Pro had with the camera etc., were fixed in the Platinum version, and DJI does not say that, I also believe that the DJI Phantom 4 Pro v2.0 is also the same way, any tweets that where in the p4p were fixed in the v2.0, I own the p4p plus version 1, and I want to get my hands on the v2.0 to see the differences.

BklynRandom , May I ask, have you ever flown a drone? Also there is a quiz you can take on DJI that tells you which drone they consider you should get, I’ll find the name of it and tell you, but it’s a quiz DJI puts out. But the drone you should buy depends on what exsactly you want to do with it, but if you have the money, then getting a newer version DJI drone is a good idea, because they are a hell of a lot easier to fly then toy drones, it’s said that DJI drones fly themselves.

I've been pouring over the reviews for the Mavic Air and the Mavic Pro. Both are about the same price now (actually Mavic Pro is nearly $100 cheaper). I'm indecisive because the Mavic Pro's video quality is apparently worse, (and only 60 mbps) and my purpose is filming. However the range, controller (ocusync) and flight time is better on Pro. Which would you purchase if you were me?? Cheers!!!

I bought a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum (£1200 around $1500) last year as a treat for some friends in Cyprus and 6 weeks after Waiting for it to be delivered all the hassle of getting it through customs after sending it to North Cyprus (who take longer to deal with things) etc etc. So the guys waited weeks nearly 2 months for their drone. The day it arrived l was here in Cyprus. We all went to the beach and we were all very excited filming with it. We were on the deck sunbathing. When the drone returned to us it just flipped and landed in the sea for no apparent reason! We got it out after about 2 seconds, dried it in rice, but it didn't work! When I phoned DJI long distance, they said they would repair it free for us so I was relieved. I spent more money about €50, sending it back (which meant travelling through the border, again thru customs, to the South of the Island, I don't drive so taxi costs. Thus was to use a Post Office with tracking so l coukd track the Mavic Pro.) Then strangely DJI wouldn't confirm that they received it 4 weeks later (even though tracking showed it arrived) until I could find all my receipts and evidence my end which I had temporarily lost. This took another week and a half, with more long distance phone calls, to different people in their office as no record was kept of my long distance phone calls. I've lost count of the many calls l made. It was a total nightmare. Finally, they decided they were not going to fix it free after all and gave no real reason for this change of heart. They then quoted €890 to repair it which seems steep when you consider they replace a chip or something minor - l could probably do it myself if you could buy electronics gear here (North Cyprus) which you cannot! I just asked them to return it. I cannot explain why they didn't wish to help - I wasn't angry with them on the phone I was polite all the way - so I am at a loss about this. In commercials and KZbin you see the machine flying over water there is no warning that it is NOT even semi-waterproof or splashproof. I explained to Amazon where I bought it who decided they would sort it for me saying if they couldn't get redress from DJI they would pay me. I said l was happy to have half the costs and expenses. I waited and waited for my refund to no avail. Out of the blue, Amazon too decided they weren't going to pay me anything not even a postage stamp! So I am £1500 plus down and all my time and effort (and expenses) and nothing to show for it. Not to mention all the time and trouble travelling to South Cyprus to send it back via tracked mail long distance phone calls etc etc. The worst was watching my two young friends ' unhappy faces. The real reason for this plea is I wanted to asked anyone PLEASE - what do I do with all the batteries and stuff? Can I use them on a different drone (not DJI as I am still sore!) There has to be a clone out there where I can use the batteries, surely China has copied it (improved it!) it just seems so much waste. I thought the 21st C was a sustainable one, it seems not as far as DJI are concerned!!!

I've got a question. I saw a guy using his Mavic Pro at the coastside cliff face, where the ocean meets the land, the waves and air would make the wind swirl and gust and slow and it seemed to be perfectly stable and capable of deal with it, but would the Mavic Air, being small, lighter, etc, be able to deal with the high winds as well?
@martinkulik94665 жыл бұрын
i have a spark and only shoot videos for me, while it's ok for me, it's jerky on circle shots due to 2 axis, and Air does much better job. also, it is not as portable as Air because you can't fold the arms, so even seasonal flier like me would pick Air instead of my spark as there are very visible and practical differences

Torn: I have a 4 I need to sell because it's just too big. I'm conflicted between the Air Fly More and the Pro with extra battery at $899. I feel like Mavic pro 2 is on the horizon as well the Pro being a year out and DJI moves fast on their features. The AIR is pretty sweet, great size, but don't love the WI-FI signal control. Mark Holtze I had the same decision. The two big things that swayed me to the pro was the occusync control. I had a Phantom 3 and always didn't like the Wi-Fi signal. Where I fly has a good bit of RF so I always had to deal with interference. The pro is affected less by that. Also, I like that the pro is a little bigger. It handles the wind better than the air. The portability is good with pro, but awesome with the air. That was my line of thinking. Can't go wrong with either. One other thing I like is the controller with the LCD screen on the pro also
@TitouanDebray6 жыл бұрын
I don't own the Pro but I bought the Air as my first drone. I always wanted a drone but was never tempted by the Pro because of the serious Aliasing/Moié issues with the weird sharpening the drone has. The Air doesn't have that weird sharpening and the bit rate really helps I feel. I will say the Air is crazy portable and I feel much better about the gimbal than on the Pro, where it's totally exposed. It does sit pretty low to the ground so maybe buy some landing gear risers if you often fly in areas where you can't take off/land on flat surfaces. Battery life and max distance really should be the factors on which you make your choice. If distance doesn't matter too much (given laws in many countries these days, the Air can work just fine for a lot of people), I can vouch for the Air's portability and video quality - and you can use the extra money to get some extra batteries!

Mavic Pro is definitely the most stable due to the occusync connection. Its rock solid, especially at long distance.

had a Phantom 3 S, great fun but way too big to take a footage on my holidays, sold it and gave up drones until last week and ordered my Spark, I was torned between Spark and Mavic, than realised that Spark needs remote to fully enjoy the experience and that makes it too dear for only 1080p

I am thinking about getting a DJI Mavic 2 when they come out. I don't own any drone. What I need to know is if I fly with my Android phone do I have to keep the Mobile Data turned on? I normally keep it off so it doesn't cost money. I only have 5gig per month of mobile data. I would appreciate feedback.

I am a novice in the field I started with a Tello, the Spark would be a good compromise for evolve and if it's worth investing a little more for the new generations. And what is your opinion of the new Autel Evo? Thanks. Marc from Quebec City Canada

Magic air with occusync would be the dream drone

Canadian Bacon I agree. I used to have the pro. I recently got the air and one of the first things I noticed is the size of the air (it’s much smaller) and it doesn’t travel very far

Mavic air 2 is coming out on the 27th of April 2020. Which is in about a week or two from now. It's gonna have ocusync 2.0

In my country mavic pro and air priced about the same. But air comes with 3 battery, 6sets of propeller, a case and a carrying bag. And the mavic pro only come with free carrying bag. Which one u think i should buy?

I love all three drones only thing that really sucks is the flight time like we really spending $400.00 to 1000.00 to be limited on time but hey it’s a great hobby love flying them and taking video/pictures .

Thank you so much for the review, it was just what I needed to help me make my choice. Quick question, does the Air have the automatic altitude adjustment like you see on the Pro video with the hiker climbing the steps?

The hand gestures gets old but is cool do shows friends. The down side is that my friends are afraid to get hurt since you have to stay close.

Just surprised there isn't simply a larger battery option available. Why? Cant be weight since the Air should be able to a handle adding another 500-1000 mAh to the battery. It is really the only thing handicapping most of the more compact drones.
@MarvFitBikesKicks5 жыл бұрын
Bryant NorCal that’s how these companies make money. 18 minutes flight time on a $700 device is a rip off. They know damn well they can add more battery life to these things

In the market for a drone. Looking at going big with the Mavic 2 Zoom with goggles whole thing! Black Friday baby! But...After many reviews and tutorials, I decided that crashing would become a sure thing and I'm not sure I want to learn HOW to fly a drone AND take great video with something so expensive. Mavic Air became my best bet. Great drone AND at a price where I can feel comforted knowing its my first drone. Finally pulled the trigger. Thank you

I prefer the Mavic Pro for its range and flight times when exploring the great out doors. I think the Mavic Air is great when utilizing those Intelligent Flight Modes due to the rear sensor capabilities. I’ve seen a lot of those Drone Fail compilation videos on KZbin, and it seems like many crashes were due to those “reverse flight” shots. Great comparisons in this video by the way.

Mavic air is my favorite from these but i prefer my P4P because of the good control and image/vid quality. I would certainly buy the P5P when it releases.

I can buy a Mavic pro refurbished by DJI for $649. Should I get this instead of the spark fly more? It seems like the Mavic’s price is close enough to the spark that I’ve been considering it instead. Is it getting too old? I’m not sure what to get.
@Gabi-he6rw6 жыл бұрын
Stephen Suelzer I was thinking about this too but it depends what you wanna do with the drone. You may need more batteries + sd card, so it will be at least 700. I think I'll get the spark on a sale or I'll wait till 16jun or something to see what dji means with their announcement. They may release a new drone and the price of the actual one may drop.

how did you get such low fight times on these drones, I got 22 minutes on my spark, I made a 22 min video and I hit record after take off, ofcourse I canceled the automatic landing at 11% and kept flying
@dronesparky5014 жыл бұрын
Wow, I never got above 17 minutes flight time when I had a spark. Of course I never let the battery go below 10% and letting the battery go all the way to 0 could damage the drone.

Great video! I noticed you were flying the Mavic Air with the front legs not completely unfolded. The “landing gear” portion of the front legs should always be unfolded because that’s where the antenna are located plus you need the front of the Mavic Air to be elevated from the ground so the gimbal can move freely upon startup
@FreakyChumy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing, while the "Mavic Air" has a little bit of Video-Bitrate than the Mavic Pro (Which the difference is barely visible), The "Mavic Air" does NOT have "OcuSync Technology" it is the technology that makes the Drone Fly Further. And the reason why Mavic Pro can Fly 7 Kilometers, while "Mavic Air" can only fly 2 to 3 kilometers is due to the fact that it has only "Enhance Wi-Fi signal. No OcuSync technology."
@masterrenderermx3815 Жыл бұрын
Bruuh… Have you even flight for +600 Meters???? You know that drones batteries drain like water right?? If you fly them for that 7Km, it is very probably that the drone may overheat, or finish his battery if it is already in bad condition!
