A confession. I don't have a drone. Yet I'm mesmerized by the footage you've taken with the Mini 2. And beyond that, it's really inspiring to see such creativity, initiative, humour, and generosity of experiences shared with the camera. Your channel is an example of individual content creation par excellence. And then there is something so soothing, so hypnotic about your Mini 2 videos! I must have been though them all in the last days. It's other-worldy. Now I only have to take a breath, think the words 'DJI Mini 2' (in a radio announcer's voice), and find myself entering a trance-like state of 'calm' (whispered). Thank you, and all the best with the channel.

Thanks for your message@@PhillipSkraba. It was very good of you to answer when you get so many messages. The enthusiasm in your videos is palpable and infectious. In other words a hell of a lot of editing and re-writing behind the scenes can make a book effortless for readers to consume. I imagine it is the same with video editing/lighting etc. Anyway kudos for all that hidden attention to detail. Thanks again for the inspiration and all the best to you.

Oh yes! That no doubt makes a huge difference mentally! It still however cost me a lot of money, $600 for the combo kit is not something I'd be happy throwing away, that's also why I believe in buying DJI Care. It's not that I feel comfortable wrecking it, I have a different mindset, I see it as a tool to get the job done, not something that should be cuddled and polished. I bought it to serve me as a tool, I need it to get the shot, that's all.

It's winter again 🥶 Thanks for good tips, Phillip! I've been practising some months with Mini 2 now. And there are a lot of new things to learn. So I will take some of those tips with me. I have been flying a couple of times in freezing temperatures. I learned, that I put everything ready in the car or in house. And if I'm able to do it I'm warming the drone by keeping the drone on a table or another flat surface and letting the motors run some minutes while still inside. I do this also after the flying to warm it again and to dry the humidity out. And in the bag I have some bags of "DO NOT EAT". Also a stylus is a good one to touch the phone screen if you do not want to carry a larger tablet with you - travelling light, you know. How does the foldable landing pad tolerate the -20? I mean, I once was taking pictures outside in -25 and had some flash bouncers for the flashes. When I folded them back flat, the plastic was broken. So your landing pad looks OK on the video, but did you use it in the freezeng cold winter?

Phillip: an idea for your exposed hands when flying in the cold. Buy a box of disposable latex gloves ( the type you would see in a doctor’s office). I prefer latex instead of vinyl, but you could try both. They are thin enough that you can still work the control panel on phone and feel the sticks, but they do help some. I also often wear them underneath a regular pair of gloves when simply outside on cold day. Hope it helps if you try it. Dan

Another tip might be to keep the drone cold once dried from previous flight(while the batteries stay warm). The warmer the drone itself is the more condensation will settle on it as the cold humidity meets the warm drone surfaces....although, I would still worry about flight blade fractures when frozen!
@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
I didn't really have time to do that between flights. Sure, there's a lot to worry about, but I guess you can worry all your life and that'll never get you anywhere. Go out, fly, as long as you're considerate and careful so that in case of an accident all you loose is your drone, it's well worth it, it's just a drone.

Stunning shots man! I agree, in a location like that, Id be there for the shot, and so be it if it kills the drone in the process. Of course its always best to walk away as you did with the shots and the drone.

Another fantastic video Phillip. Thanks for braving the cold to show us the limits of the mini 2 and the aftercare. I was curious about using an iPad with the mini 2. How do you connect it? Does it have to cellular in order to get a GPS lock?
@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
Thank You! The iPad is great! You connect it the same way, you just need to buy a slightly longer usb-c to lightning cable and you're away. It doesn't need cellular, no.

Another Great Video! I had some fun with my mini 2 today and had to deal with the fog trying to make my drone land it was definitely scary!

Damn you got some really nice winter shoots! I got my Mavic Mini 2 today, sadly I had no time to fly today, but I will try tomorrow. Also it does film at 2,7k 60FPS after firmware update and app update. Hope I will get good shoots tomorrow.
@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
Thank You! Yes, I believe so from what I've heard, I haven't tried that out yet.
@ivanjdrakov19573 жыл бұрын
Yeah, 2.7K 60fps is my second favorite mode to shoot in, after 4K 30fps of course.. 4K 30fps is the only resolution which needs and runs at 100Mbs, which is why I love it so much, all the details that you capture, amazing.. Sweet
@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
I’ll have to play around a little with 60fps, not touched it yet.
@ivanjdrakov19573 жыл бұрын
@@PhillipSkraba yeah, seriously, the 2.7K 60fps is really excellent for sports and where you want to have high definition and really really smooth video... I'm no expert at all though in photography, but I know the 2.7K 60fps is really awesome! Sweet

Hey bud, i live in Alberta Canada and it gets very cold here also. Ive flown my mavic 2 at - 21c with no problems what so ever. It still will keep the internal electronics warm enough i find from its internal heat. You could also put some tape over some of the vents but not all to keep the heat in. Beautiful scenery.

It must be stunning out there! Yes, I had zero problems with mine, well, except it wanting to land in the frozen fog, but I'm always aware in risky situations like that so stopped it in its tracks. Thank You, it really was stunning out there.

Too bad that my Mini 2 is flying on the way to the NL repair centre now that we are supposed to be getting the potentially only snow this year. But your videos really show that the price tag of the Mini 2 doesn't match it's might and capabilities.

Outstanding breakdown of the challenges of creating that amazing video. The results made it look easy. Ice accretion is a problem for aircraft of all sizes. It changes the shape of the blades and/or wings (making them less efficient) and adds weight to the body, increasing the power required to stay aloft. Visible moisture and a temperature near freezing is considered icing conditions. As you said, very risky. Also, try a pair of flip-top mittens with thinsulate. Only the end of your fingers are exposed, and you can cover them easily.
@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
Thank You! Yes, it's very risky, but he seems to handle it pretty well. I'll look into those as my fingers were in really bad shape, it was hard to pull off some of these 🥶

Another awesome video. Living in Alaska being outside in subzero temps is life half the year. Took my Mini 2 out and yes my thumbs got so bad I could not use the controller properly. My Android phone also took a shit being too cold. Thanks for the link to the controller wrap that is going to be a must have for me. I would like to see some more night time shooting with settings myself. Thanks.
@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
Thank You! I'd love to see Alaska one day! Here in Poland it's around 3-4 months of subzero temps then it's smooth sailing to autumn. Yes, the thumbs take the worst of it, my fingers are okay, but thumbs are really frozen. The controller wrap is pretty cool, does a good job especially in the wind. Night shooting, well, ISO3200, no filters, 1/50th, if that's too dark, switch to auto and it'll probably drop your shutter to 1/30th and if there isn't too much action or Sports Mode it'll be fine.
@NildoScoop3 жыл бұрын
Awesome footage. But the last tip, when you put the drone on the ventilation holes of the car and blow warm air at the drone is not handy. The temperature is changing quickly and can cause condensation inside the drone cause the drone can't adjust properly. But maybe i'm wrong. 😉
@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
Thank You! I've been doing this for a couple of years with my drones, they are all fine and fly fine till this very day, it just gets it up and running again for my next flight.
