Damn, this is good. The first truly neutral comparison between different drones. The images speak for itself. I bought the Mini 2 not too long ago and since the release of the Mini 3 Pro, I'm annoyed by influencers who pretend as if the Mini 2 suddenly no longer exists. For years they touted it as the best drone ever, but now they clearly have a new best friend :-) . Due to this test, I now know that I don't immediately need an upgrade to the (rather expensive) Mini 3 pro. Thanks for this test Gavin, keep on going.

Unless you shoot in the D-Cinelike, which is now 10 bit too, then you won’t get the full benefit of the massively improved image from the mini 3 pro. It’s image is vastly superior to the mini 2.

This is a fantastic piece of work, nicely done. It's a fantastic hobby with constantly improving tech. Great fun telling them apart. I was able to pick out my Air2s and the Autel, but if I am honest, the Mini 3 Pro didn't leap out..... However, in the end the film we shoot is about the subject, and editing, not the camera. That's why we can still happily watch films shot 70 years ago. Keep up the high quality work Gavin.

It's really good to see that side by side comparison. I have a Nano+ and a Mini2. I knew right away (without being told) that #4 was the Nano+ because I'm quite used to seeing that "look" from it's videos as well as videos from the Lite+ and the Evo 2 Pro 6K, which is very different look from anything DJI makes. I prefer the Autel processing which is noticeably sharper, has more dynamic range, and is a bit more saturated than DJI. Not everyone does, so it's kind of a personal thing. And, other than the crisp detail and dynamic range, the differences can be adjusted in post production.

Fantastic review, I watched on a 43" 4K TV and thought 1, 2 and 4 were very similar with No. 4 having a slight edge. I thought 3 was poor until the last location when it looked good. Quite shocked to see the final reveal. As others have said here I'm sick of those that were "Given" a Mini 3 and seem to say that it's all singing and dancing and that all other drones (like the Mini 2) are finished. So pleased we can get an honest review from you, don't let them say any other.

Brilliant and honest comparison. Puts all those influers to shame. I got the nano right, it's a clear winner, but was surprised I mixed up the DJI's I almost got caught up on the DJI hype train, even putting my nano+ up for sale in advance of the mini 3 release. Great comparison Gavin!👍 It's funny to see how different the reactions are over the footage of the different drones😃. I think it's all about taste. How some people like a more natural look and some like it more saturated. Personally I find that the sensor on the nano plus is the best but the footage is not my taste. The mini 2 feels for me more natural and the mini 3 was also good but a little oversaturated in my opinion. But then again, I have a mini 2 and that's maybe the reason why I like the footage of it.

Just had to rewatch it on my 86in. Seems like the air2s and mini 3 have almost identical camera but the mini 3 over sharpens it, to make it look more detailed. Tho the nano plus is a bit oversharpened, it definitely has more detail than all the others. In the shipyard scene, I think u might very mislabeled, I think 1 was actually the air2s and 2 was the mini 2 and 3 was the mini 3. Atleast that's what it seemed like to me, 2 was far too blurry to have been the 3.

I genuinely picked 1/4/3/2 in that order. Great test, and i think many people will be surprised. The test i would love to see, is the low light test, I'm sick of hearing how great the Mini 3 is in low light. It maybe improved where you have lots of illuminations or heavy street lighting. But i would wager in true low light conditions in the countryside, there would be very little difference. And lets be honest, how many of us are really trying to achieve the same quality as Warner Bros? Have we not already achieved video quality that far out weighs what we consider acceptable and makes for first class viewing. I'd much rather have interesting video/content and camera angles etc, than be concerned with color grading etc. Only my personal opinion.

Boom 💥 Immediately cancels Mini 3 order - thanks for this mate! All the hype was getting to me, but sample No.3 is by far the best image. The Autel is nice “out of the can” but it looks way over-processed (sharpness, contrast AND colour) and I’d have to try and undo half of that (rather than add to - like the flatter Air 2S). @@marcelfive1 Tuesday I spent 4 hours filming then scrapped the lot of the footage as it was too inconsistant and I was not happy with the differing cloud cover so I filmed it all over again the day after! I can confirm the work and the detail to get this video was difficult ha, same height, same gimbal tilt shame flight path haha yes it was a tough one to get right!

I would say the choice to make for most is between the Nano+ and Mini 3 if you don't already have a drone. The Mini 2 is absolutely fantastic at an amazing price and can be edited to look even better.

It was obvious that 3 was air2s and 4 was autel. But mini 3 surprised me with the bad color profile versus mini 2. Especially on the top down canal footage. It felt like digitally zoomed in. Color on mini 3 feels overly saturated

I knew 4 was the Autel Nano+ because of the Sky. Had this drone for 2 months wouldnt trade it for a DJI drone. Great color science. The only things I wish the nano had was better tracking, lower prop noise and slo mo. Not that impressed with the image quality on the mini 3. I would still buy the Air 2s over the mini 3.

If I'm not mistaken the Nano+ has a true 48 mega pixel sensor. In other comparison videos (namely vs the Air 2s) the Nana+ wins hands down at the amount of information captured. Now, you may not like it's native color profiles... a little post production can change that. I really want a Mini3proNano+. I feel one's opinion changes a lot depending on how you watch this comparison. If watched on a phone or tablet, then colour & dynamic range is all we have to judge upon (where image 2 and image 4 looked the best). However, after watching it on a large 4K TV.....the Mini 3 (image 2) was very soft for 4k while the Mini2 (image 1) and the Nano+ (image 4) were over sharpened...... For me, it's a tie between Air 2S and Nano+..... I'd personally go with the Air 2S here, for image quality and natural look on my 4K TV, but also that extra field of view. Just gives more flexibility for those wide shots , plus you wouldn't have to fly as far away to get the shot you need.

But still the Mini 2 is a very nice Drone for the buck and produces very nice images for a kind of "amateur" drone. Deffinitly not gonna sell it.

Further to my earlier post, I've definitely changed my mind. Viewed first on the TV but just looked again on my computer and I'm afraid (although no longer a blind decision.. no pun intended), the Mini 3 drops to the bottom. Shown especially onl the overhead boat shots it is simply blurred. All 3 of the others are much cleaner. Hopefully this is something they can put right in a firmware update as it looks like a software softening more than anything else. I still reckon though that unless comparing like this, they are all very good. Haha, just noticed, was that a trick to see if we'd spot it? On the moving overhead boat shot, the last 2 (air 2s and Nano) both show as number 3 in the top corner. Cheers Mike

Impressive way to present the results. I knew that 1 and 3 were the mini 2 and air2s, respectively but alternated between options 2 and 4. I think the results depended on the environment as far as which looked better. For me, it's not just about the video but the controller and rotating camera as well so I'll go with the mini 3. Fingers crossed that the range issues are resolved.

Thanks for taking the time to put this comparison together for us. Well my two favorites were 2 and 4. I thought number 4 would be the Air 2S but I was right about the number 2, I figured it was likely the Mini 3 Pro. I will say from my screen that the Nano Plus seemed to have the sharpest images with the Mini 3 Pro coming in at a close second. I'd still go with the Mini 3 Pro over the Nano Plus simply due to the lack if issues with speed and the longer range with the Plus batteries that are available with the Mini 3 Pro and for that matter the Mini 3 as well. I will say though that Autel does make some great drones as well so I'd be happy with either the DJI Mini 3 Pro or the Autel Nano Plus. I can see that the images shot with the Nano Plus and Mini 3 Pro both seemed to have a slight yellow hue with the Nano Plus having the most. One thing I'm convinced of is the Nano Plus and Mini 3 Pro both seem to do well in these relatively low light conditions. In the end, I was planning on making the Mini 3 Pro my next drone and after watching this video my opinion hasn't changed. The Air 2S was always out of the question given the upcoming FAA regulations here in the U.S. I think they've gone too far with those regulations but that's for another conversation.

I kept thinking number 4 looks the best, but I know the colors are over saturated and that gave me a strange feeling towards the end. During the video my thoughts were 1 was the worse, number 2 was better, number 3 I can't decide if better or worse than 2, and number 4 looked the sharpest, but then I thought number 4 looked over saturated and over sharpened.

It's for that reason I spent 3 hours filming on Tuesday then scrapped all the footage as the cloud cover was inconsistent so I filmed it all over again where it was consistently hazy the entire day. There was no extra footage from any of the drones to use, they got one flight in each location lasting around 5 minutes to complete the process.

No matter what, I Still think the A2S is king of the drone sky? It's my favorite of all the above drones. I know that the Mini 3 is great, but it's to weak when it comes to wind, and I don't trust it when the winds start to pick up. I will put it in second place, of course Autel has a great camera but it's worse than the Mini 3. So, I put that in last place. That's my personal line up of the drones on this video. Of course, I understand that some people will disagree with me, but that's what this video is about right, our own preference? Thanks again for sharing. I thought it was an interesting video. Hah! I LOVE that you gave us a blind test. I am only human and I know I'd have a bias. Having both an Air 2S and an EVO II Pro 6K, I guessed I would choose the Nano+ over either Mini but the Air 2S over the Nano+. I actually chose the Nano+ over all the other models. I've been on the fence about adding a Nano+, and I think you just pushed me right over.

My guess at which drones were which was correct. For the work I do, the Nano+ has the best color and I can often deliver the edited video without making color adjustments, as opposed to my usual color work on D-Log or D-Cinelike, so the Nano+ is the one I immediately liked best. My Mini2 has not left the case since I got the Nano+ and I recently shot a video using my trusty workhorse P4Pv2, then reshot the same moves with the Autel and ended up delivering all Autel footage and none of the P4Pv2 footage. Great comparison and thanks for posting!

Very good comparison! I thought that drone 2 & 4 were consistently crisp in their detail and color with drone 3 good on a couple of shots. I seriously thought that 2 & 4 would be the Air2s and the Mini 3 but was very surprised that 4 was the nano. I found that 1 & 3 wasn't sharp enough for my liking and 2 & 4 were just more eye appealing to me. I have a Mini 3 on order so I'm happy with the camera results but hoping the range is better with the drone I get in Canada then the tests I have seen so far from Europe.

It is a great comparison! It is comparing the auto mode though, which is not necessarily unlocking the drone's full potential, but it gives you an idea of where you could be with some tweaks. It would also be great to inspect the actual video that has not been processed by KZbin, but I am staying with the Mini 2 for now :). The grass in the beginning got pretty blurry possibly due to encoding. I was surprised by Air2s not looking that great, but I was not going to go for it for other reasons anyway. It seems to me that Mini 3 oversaturates at least in auto mode (especially in that boat shot). Mini 3 has other great advantages over 2 which make it worth getting (sensors, d-cinelike), but I will give it some time to mature ... The Autel did surprise me in terms of quality, but it has disadvantages over Mini 3, such as lower flight time among the most prominent ones ... Since I don't have a mini 3, I am not sure if HDR is automatically on in the auto mode for mini 3 or nano, but I would expect the non-hdr drones to do much worse (especially in the last comparison) and they did not. Overall, thank you for making this video and great job!

My order of preference was nano+, Mini 3, Mini 2, Air 2s. Nano+ was ready to upload for me, although I can grade a clip to be contrasty quickly. So will stick with my Mini 2 for now, mainly use it for stills anyway.

I have a mini 2 and want a decent and bigger update for better picture quality and photoprints.I had a lot of doubt between the air 2s and the mini 3 pro.This test i preferred drone 3 and it turned out to be the air 2s.Thank you for this video…i appreciate it 👍🏻

was this before or after the 10bit firmware update? Going from millions of colors to billion colors can have a huge benefit in low light banding.

Ok paused it at 8:12 to figure out if I am right. Personally I liked #4 straight out of camera. The colors were more vibrant, and it seems like there is a lot more detail, especially on the edges so if we were shooting in log the color grading would be fantastic. That being said, I think it is #1 Mini 2, #2 Nano + #3 Mini 3, #4 Air 2S. And I wasn't to far off. Sadly the Nano + airframe issues with wind is concerning, but the camera technology is something to keep in mind. The radio link strength is also really good as well. Maybe save up for the Lite +?

Hi Dan, yeah I've not had the pleasure of trying the lite +, the nano is an odd one actually, or at least inconsistent, in my high wind test it matched the mini 2, in my urban range test it was slower in the wind than the mini 2 / mini 3 yet over the past two days performing these flights it was fine and flying into the wind as fast as the other 2. Can't quite figure it out but the camera and signal are very good

If the drone has a raw picture option and d- cinelike or dlog then you don't need to worry about color. The option missing on DJI Fly is an option to sharpen or soften the picture. I wouldn't judge a new product too harshly just yet. New products usually get a heap of software upgrades in the first year from release.

Reading the comments it depresses me to still see people think sharpness is detail. It’s not! It’s over processed and unnatural. The air 2s, the least processed here and not even in D-Log looked clearly the best because it hasn’t had the edges all over sharpened by the camera processor. The mini 3 pro was a close second. The Autel image is so ugly and unnatural, a shame as I’ve just got one 😞

Fully see wheree you are coming from of course but I think it's been a good indication that it is all about personal taste and it's been incredible to see the variation in the answers. Maybe that would be a great subject for your channel on how you could use the nano footage and sort it in post to how you like it as it can of course always be dialed back. Thanks again for watching

@@GAVINHR the thing is it’s easy to make better footage match worse footage, but the other way just isn’t possible. I can definitely do some work on the Nano+ image with Topaz Video Enhance but it will never look as good as less sharpened in camera footage. I’ve heard there was image options in the main app for the larger Autel drones but the new app simplifies things. Is this true?

It is obvious that Autel color science, especially for nano & lite, is the best there is at the moment, for those who drone = camera. They also have an incredible high dynamic range, which is great for those involved in color grading.

I watched this on an LG OLED TV. Very interesting test, very enlightening! All four Drones produce great results, and in post processing each could be made to look like the other to a fair degree I think. I guessed them correctly. I have the Mini 3 on order having sold my Mini 2. I'm happy with how the mini 3 compared. The Mini 2 held its own very well. The Mini 3 and Nano both have a more 'processed' look, the Nano goes too far I think, its footage looks like its had a LUT applied already. Thanks Gavin for another great video!

1 - bit darker in shadowy bits, lack dynamic range 2 - better dynamic range and maybe bit oversaturated, some scenes appear blurry (yellow truck at 6:57) 3 - nice quality with neutral tones, bigger field of view, lacking bit of contrast though (my favorite) 4 - oversaturated and oversharpened, looks worst imo

Great comparison video. Right off, I was drawn to the Autel picture - bright, clean, clear, great colors! The Mini 3 was my second choice, but only due to the brightness. The Mini 2 was my third choice, but I'd say on the same level of clarity as the Mini 3, just lacking the brightness. And finally the last place for me was the Air 2S. I was only able to use a 1080 monitor to view these and wonder how different it would be on a 4k TV/screen. I was able to pick up a Mini 2 fly more combo last week for $350 and I'm very happy with buying it even after all these reviews and comparisons. If money wasn't an object obviously I'd love to upgrade, but it's not needed. Another point on the Mini 3 for US buyers, everyone is recommending getting the Fly More Combo Large batteries. This extends the flight time, but places you beyond the regulations so why wouldn't you just get the larger drone anyway? Or if you plan to make money with it anyway, you'd need your 107 license and registration. Best bang for the buck remains the Mini 2 - unless you have money to blow, just keep that one!

Well done mate, nice visual comparison here. I love the nano results, just a tad 0versharp though but easily adjusted in post. I have just crossed back over to DJI from Autel mainly due to the now "disappointing customer Service" that has been lingering with Autel and I am getting too old to wait any longer for a resolution. So I think the mini 3 pro is as close as we will get to the perfect hobbyist drone for a while so I ended up buying it. Very nice so far, fingers crossed.

The Mini 3 Pro and the Air 2S has the right balance of vibrance and details for me. I'd choose the Mini 3 Pro if I want a more compact and travel friendly drone. It's definitely an upgrade to camera performance on DJI’s mini series.

Great job. My opinion is that number 1 has the least detail and dynamic range. Number 2 is great balance of contrast and color. Number 3 has wider field of view, so objects are smaller but contrast and saturation is a bit lower but still nicely balanced. Number 4 has great dynamic range but way too much contrast and sharpening. My guess was correct on the which drones were which.
