DJI Mini 4K at The Snake River Canyon!

I decided that it was about time that I fly the DJI Mini 4K at The Snake River Canyon. It turned out to be a gloomy cold and frosty day, but it was still fun to fly the canyon! I hope you enjoy this flight, it is not the most cinematic drone video ever, but there are still some cool sights to see!

I had a similar thing happen in fog with the Mini 2 one time but I haven’t been able to duplicate it since. I like how you were able to repeat it and figure out what was going on. You solved the riddle! lol. That canyon always impresses me.

Very interesting flight with the fog! You definitely showcased the limitations of the bottom vision sensors. I still have my Mini 2-it’s still a great flyer and basically the same as the Mini 4K. Happy holidays to you and your family!

I haven't flown my Mini 4k in a while. Flew it last week after doing updates. I was blown away that the Mini 4k quality still stands up to the other more expensive drones. I forgot how it does such amazing video quality and seems improved with the updates.

I love flying my Mini 4K and it’s been pretty fun flying in the colder Wisconsin weather. No fog but definitely cold. This drone is awesome and works perfectly! Just got some ND filters for it as well.

Hey Marcus thanks for taking the wee 4K out there. Love this wee drone,and just bought a mavic 2 air to do the camera parts the 4K can't do. (fully armed now for capturing all the footage) Was wondering Marcus, if you could do a video on the perfect settings in mph ect on the uav forecast app ? Just possibly go through each one that we really need. I didn't really think it got as cold out in those parts: reminded me of our Scottish winter weather. Thanks again!

Great flight. I'm always scared when someone flies the mini in less-than-perfect conditions. I don't know if it's just because it's small and I just don't trust it or what. But you always do a good job with the minis.

Marcus, I've been avoiding flying lately because of the cold, my 79 YO digits just couldn't handle it. Got some touch screen sensitive gloves at Costco ($14) and they work great, not insulated super well but way, way better than bare hands.

Love this video Marcus! Can I ask in these conditions do you ever experience icing on your lead edge of your props? I am a 'pilot' in MSFS 2020 and I get warned of the icing on the leading edge of the wings and engine cowlings, also maybe tell people the risks involved in flying in situations like this?

Interesting video thank you. Just an idea, my Suzuki Vitara forward radar deactivates sometimes and gives me an audible and dash warning in fog because it thinks it’s consistently hitting something solid ( the fog ), so for safety reasons it deactivate the radar. Sounds like the DJI sensor is picking up the dense fog as ground close when you pull down and goes into landing mode.

Your Drone was trying to land because the sensors got thrown off because it could not figure out what was beneath it. Happened to me last week when I was over water about 20ft. Had to go up. I believe once you are 30ft or higher you should be good.

There is NO way you have the required 3 statute miles of visibility required by the FAA, until you drop down into the canyon that is. UAV forecast has the word forecast in it for a reason. I suspect the drone itself is flaking out due to the dense fog. If I were in your shoes, I would take this video down in order to avoid fines from our friends at the FAA.
