Hi. With O3 air unit & Integra Goggles standard set-up I just reached 12 km range with good performance. I think i might have been able to squeeze a little bit more, but my PL18 radio link was failing. I will get a long range module for the radio and try to upgrade the antennas of the O3 (one Yagi on the goggles) and CPLs on the air unjt and test it again.

Outstanding video (this one and the part1)! I've tested extensivly earlier this year, didnt see an advantage on diagonal mounting antennas (patches vs. stubbies) Top or bottom for a pair of similar antennas was no difference - so patches on bottom seem to make the most sense! And with regards to DJI O3 stock antenna vs. aftermarket (CP antennas) - massive increase in range for me. Which antennas are CP for the O3? I only know of the runcam and flyfish aftermarket O3 antennas. They unfortunatly dont state anywhere if they are linear or CP. I guess they are linear like the original dji antenna. There is only one lollipop LHCP antenna for the O3 from Ali I havent tested yet. Grüße Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm only talking about antennas that are the same type as the original O3, where both ipex connectors go into one antenna. Of course there are still many LHCP ipex antennas from the vista, but you need two sperate antennas. I am kinda looking for one that is like the original, where you only need one antenna. Such a weight freak😅

Can't find a chart on f, only one pic with the TrueRC Singularity. Am I right in assuming that the TrueRC is already the best antenna because they actually always make the best antennas?

Great video Ian, quick question for ya, Do you have a video on why the DJI Controller is not worth flying? I only use the DJI Controller with my Avata & all of my other quads with the 03 I use the Tango 2. Is there anyway I could use my Tango 2 with the Avata? Thanks Mate!

Great video,, never can have to much information. But how does DJI send out remote ID? Multiplexer? Separate antenna port?

O3 is an SDR. Sending of any rid packets on day the avata or anything else will just follow the same path as the rest. Both ports most likely. It’s literally just like blip for them

When did you make the measurements regarding fcc and dji fpv? Some people made measurements with only 25mw although all 3 channels are available. But in my case it works well

Does the unlock procedure for the Mavic-3 original drone lower the firmware version? We require the use of the newer “vision assist” feature for flying backwards and sideways and probably wouldn’t send it in if it would remove that newer feature. Also.. Does the unlock process disable the Remote ID feature? And.. Do you have the Alientech Duo 3? Do you recommend it over the Duo 2? Using a Mavic-3 and RC Pro. Thank you.

As I write this cloud city drones does have replacement antenna for the goggles integra The have leads and u.fl connections. I bought a couple along with the G2 flips from fly fish, I dismantled, de soldered and replaced the antenna elements with the G2 units and if I’m using the fly fish on my copter or the stock O3 antenna it works outstanding if I use LHCP I actually loose reception quality but the upgrade works a most like an Omni antenna I get outstanding reception even behind myself

I plan on fitting the Lumenier adapters on the G2 this weekend and fitting their AXII 2 stubby and will test range/penetration as I have already fit the o3 unit with pigtails and SMA/LHCP and with stock antenna's there's no difference in range or quality (mostly fly Bando's).

how about using the old VISTA unit with Goggles 2 and Controller 2 - do they stay exclusively on 5.8ghz as the VISTA only supports 5.8ghz right?

Yes vista and googles 2 stay only on 5.8 ... and just sharing..Googles 2 stock antenna with vista not good as well, when i change the top antenna with 6helical, i can reach 12km with minimum signal around 4-10mbps,

What's you guys opinion on the mcx adapter? I did purchased some rpsma to mcx connector then wrapped with with laters of heatshrink. It fit nicely in the goggles 2 port and I am able to use some 6 turn helical antenna with it. Didn't go full range with it but i am able to get at least 4km with the bitrate around 25-30mbps. So my question is what's the difference between luminer adapter and the aliexpress mcx adapter? Does it really better quality with luminer?

from what I have been told, when going with aliexpress, it can be more of a gamble, as far as Quality Control goes, some are great others are crap. Where, going with a brand with a great reputation, like Lumineir, or TrueRC, you can rely on the product and have more trust in QC. This is all anecdotal, watching youtube, and reading forums, I have done no testing of my own.

hello mads . how far might one think of going while using V2 goggles and an 03 air unit . i only want 2.5 k i must say i tried that last night on a vista and had to turn back at 1.5 k . i am using ufl to rp-sma with true rc 25 cm antenna . do you prefer the one piece style like the OEM one . ? i then flew my analog set up on the same route and got 2.1 k no problem . thank you . could i may be share some of my flying ?

Why do the goggles transmit anything on 2.4ghz when using the dji remote? Doesn't the remote transmit directly to the air unit?

The goggles transmit to the air unit. That and the Airunit can also go to 2.4hz for telemetry and video.

Do you know if the DJI googles can work without transmitting and only receiving? is it possible to disable the transmission from the Dji googles 2 , im am asking because i have strong headaches after using it which i dont get with anlog system

Sadly no the system is simply not designed to do that. The only digital system that does not transmit from the goggles is HDZero.

Could you tell Bardwell that the V2's are linear, I have told him at least 3 times in comments on his videos, where he says they are circular polarized, I pointed out that the V1's were, but not the V2's, he still persists with the same mistake!!!

Yeah this is definitely the video i was waiting for to clear it up. I mean essentially to get the best of both worlds for vista and o3 on the goggle 2 antenna debacle would he to have lhcp patches on external and would he nice to have 1 lhcp (dual ufl) connector type antenna on the o3 quad end so swapping from vista and o3 modes you wouldn't have as much loss. So if a third party ehm ehm FF flips come out in lhcp and have an LHCP o3 antenna 5.8 only would be best ;)

Maybe a little Off topic, but regarding antennas that transmit and receive: how is it on the walksnail goggles and vrx? I know there is one that transmit (I think top right antenna) but does that antenna also receive or ONLY transmit?

It’s absolutely capable of receiving but we don’t know what Avatar do as their FCC documents are far from complete and as such it does not explain the full RF setup.

So we lose about 3db in mixing linear with circularly polarized, but could you just not change to circularly polarized on o3 as well and there will be no loss? or did i miss something? Thanks for the video Ian!

Yes. The short story is just make sure the polarization matches on the ground and in the sky.

I've seem guys flying the dji remote with the O3 system with only 5.8ghz lhcp rush cherries antenna on the drone - no control link issues. Any thoughts on this?

It will work and largely with out issues it just won’t be optimal. For instance if your using the O3 in manual channels mode it will always stay on 5ghz anyways. Even in auto my may just try 2.4 and decide to the poor antenna tuning to go back to 5ghz.

I hope it's true, but i think it's just wishful thinking. Look at DJI's history with Air Units. The OG Air Unit is still $200, only went on sale 2 times, for like father's day and memorial day, the first year of production, and never went on sale again. Vista price never went down. The price I pay for cases of 03's as a dealer is $200, with $30 margin to mark it up, so the rumored $180-190 would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath...

I have it on good authority that it will not happen for O3, and O4 also has no chance of selectable fonts, as the software is VERY similar… maybe O5? Check back in 40 months, or just use a system that works… I’m very happy with HDZero and Avatar, haven’t even used O3 since December and don’t miss it, at all, it’s just too laggy for me.

The true RC antennas I tried on the goggles 2 and noticed they did not make any difference in range.

In theory in some cases yess However that’s not strictly how it works either in realty. Connector loss is a complex subject and do you honestly think you see that loss on a spectrum analyser when testing. Do you think you seen that much on pigtails in real world use. I can tell you now you don’t. 5db is not fact. That’s massive. Most adapters are less than half a db. It’s simply not the case you looks 5db unless it’s not working lol. RF theory is a black art and you can’t just throw numbers like that at it as it’s not the case.

I do know though that as a satellite technician, we consider all connections, regardless of the "actual" are considered to be a net loss of 5db per connection. We are trained to mitigate these connections at all costs, that's just "their" policy [doesn't make it fact or true, lol] . It's just digital coax cable, not RF. I do appreciate your feedback and knowledge, it's why I'm here and subscribe, so I learn, and thank you. 👍
