They only added sharpening, this is not a fix at all. Everyone can add sharpening in post. This is a hardware issue, Dji need to do a recall.

This was my conclusion as well Johannes, I get the same result if I sharpen in FCPX Its a lens / hardware issue and not a software issue 😏 My advice to anyone is not to buy until they fix it 😉 oh and it would be nice if they recalled all the faulty cameras and replaced / repaired them !

@@stephjant6461 I use the HERO for vlogging, though a lot of that is outside on mountain hikes and I also use it on the MTB. It's nice also to have the slomo. The iPhone 13 pro is very good, but if I were recording my GPS, taking photos, vlogging, then on an all day hike I would run into battery issues. I do have a power bank, though that is awkward if you are actually using the device. The HERO can be a bit clunky so far as the physical UI is concerned and connecting to WiFi for preview is inconsistent. I was hoping the osmo action would negate all these issues and it does so brilliantly, though at the end of the day I need good image quality, so I'll be using the HERO 11. Minimum focal distance isn't unrelated to the focus issue. Fix the focus issue and the effective minimum focal distance will be shorter. Sharpness is largely the same issue and forcing sharpness in firmware is something which can't be undone, which means any units with the focus issue addressed will have sharpened, probably over-sharpened, footage. That's best done in post where it can be reverted, or at the very least as an in camera option which could be disabled. At least they haven't done it in d-cinelike, but that decision also highlights that it's a hardware issue which the sharpening is attempting to cover up.

@@rich4716 Handy to know that it is as is in d-cinelike so I can do a review at some point. When I took video of my Paulownia trees very similar green to the grass, in bright sunshine; the colours were just weird, and the contrast was virtually non existent. Perhaps this a side effect of the focus issue. They video just fine with the GoPro. The osmo is so easy to use physically, I wish the image quality was as good, and if anyone has a good camera, could they show me their results 🙏🏻

It has definitely made a difference , but it’s just not quite there . I wish there were more controls in the pro settings . At the moment there isn’t much to adjust, would like to see more control of the camera settings in pro than just expo, wb, colour and fov and the mic . Come on Dji get it together

@@TonyHobbs I’ve had a few , latest update seems to have helped. I was out in the lakes today testing the OA3 today and still not convinced . Video up tomorrow

I'm glad that this issue came to light when it did. I definitely have this issue with my Action 3 and I initiated a return. My camera was updated the new firmware, but it was still soft and marginally out of focus. For me, I feel like this should be recalled, and do to this, I decided to return my unit. We'll see if they correct the issue in newer batches. If so, I might purchase again.

found this online appears that Amazon has pulled the DJI Action 3's off their site, DJI emailed some who purchased it that their delivery of the Action 3 will be pushed back a month (until late November). it was NOT a firmware issue like many had said, it was hardware related.

I think it's time for DJI to hold up their hands and admit that it is hardware related. It's still blurry with added sharpness.

I don't think "good enough for KZbin purpose" is really a valid statement. Either it is detailed enough given the competitive marketplace, or it is not. No one wants to buy the worst camera because it could subjectively be labeled as "good enough" when their are lots of purchase options. You could recommend plenty of used action cameras. Insta360 with 4k boost, dji action 2, gopro 10 or 8, etc that are all price competitive and will provide a much more detailed image.

I canceled my order before it was shipped, my friend's DJI action was all jacked up and he returned it also, I ended up getting a GoPro 11 and it works flawlessly.

Took some footage at 2.7k 10 bit and it looked like 480p on my laptop i was like wtf is wrong with this camera very disappointed.
