Normal color actually is better than all the previous renditions of this camera. D log really brings out the colors though and looks a bit better. Just not sure I want to invest in another action cam yet. I really think that the whole color grade thing is blown out of proportion to be honest. Just like ND filters. I don't want to admit how much money I have wasted on ND filters over the years on these action cameras. Probably could have bought a nice camera if I would have saved it. LOL

Normal color is good enough for most people, you have some more to do in flat. But it takes some time to grade, I just want to record, edit and upload. Dont wanna waste to much time color grading. This camera is really good, but do you need it. Maybe not. The camera you already have is excellent. Thanks for watching.

At a first glance the way you graded the D-Log M makes it look similar to the Normal profile, but you quickly see the added character and softer less sharpened look... so much better and more cinematic.

Cheers for the vid. It looks great. I've just been watching it on my big-screen 55" Sony TV and switched to my laptop to message you. My TV has the colours turned right down, the highlights ramped up and the reds reduced (Sony clearly loves to go nuts with its reds - in its cameras and TVs). I'm blown away by the Normal profile, it looks so good and the colours are super natural, with great dynamic range. However, the graded Log footage looks far worse. The colours are over-saturated, the grade is very contrasty, losing a lot of dynamic range (So counter-productive to using the Log in the first place) and the highlights are blown-out, it also looks dirtier/noisier. I hope you aren't offended. I think using a DJI LUT and desaturating might yield better results. Or, just save yourself the hassle and use 'normal'. Interestingly, in your side-by-side at the end of 'Normal' vs Graded, the graded footage also looks mushy and out of focus. Normal seems to give you more separation from the background and you kind of 'pop' out of the footage. On my laptop the results, and my impressions were nearly identical to what I saw on my TV. The only difference was that the graded colours didn't look as bad. I watched all your footage in 4K. I've recently been trying to grade footage (On my Akaso Brave 6+, which has really weird colours) and some footage from my Fuji XT4 (I'm trying to match the grade from "Fight Club", for a short film I'm making). Man is it difficult to do. Also, I'm grading on Wondershare Filmora, which isn't the best for grading (Sounds like an excuse -LOL). If I get a more powerful computer, I might get Davinci for grading. Its really good in 1080p, many big KZbinrs still use it for travel videoes. Not the best stabiliazation, but good enough. Gonna be fun to test it against the action 4. Im sure its much better.

I bought hero 11 myself, precisely because action 3 had a lot of problems and average image quality, which cannot be said about action 4. hero 11 is cool but i'm disappointed in a few things so how am i supposed to vlog after sunset i take x3000 😅

Keep in mind the normal mode can now also be 10bits and might be a better option for most esp. when you want to make long (like i am) videos and don't want to correct every 20seconds.

Looks great on the Smartphone. I read people saying the Hero 11 still has best image quality. They say the Action 4 has best colours, but not a big upgrade to a good action 3 , apart from night filming? I think it needs to be compared to the Action 2?

hero 11 has better image quality but a very subtle difference, and of corse only under iso 400, after action 4. only 240 fps is better in hero (2,7K vs fullhd in dji)

I dont agree that the hero 11 has better image quality. There are maybe more details, but its more grain in the image. The colors on the action 4 is way better. I dont have the hero 11, but the hero 10 (almost the same as the hero 11, in my opinion). Im gonna test it against the action 2👍

I agree. I think the GoPro looks better everywhere, except when it is dark. I also prefer the dusk look on the GoPro. The DJI smashes the GoPro in low-light though - with its image, but also its stabe at night. I don't like the sound solutions on the GoPro, so I'm going DJI4, when I save enough pennies. (Interestingly the Sony X3000 is better than all of them at night. Best stabe, best night-time look - DJI is brighter, but I think that misses the point. (I suppose you could darken the DJI in post).

The resolution of 4K is only about 9M pixels, at 5.3 it is not that much more. The more pixels vs number of pixels they are mapped back to 4K to are the worst thing for video - as they decrease dynamic range. Hence why Sony Flagship video cameras are low megapixel cameras. Also you don't need to grade D-Log really - just apply the LUT from DJI - you don't need to do anything else, and you get better footage than in normal.

Watched a few reviews and decided to get the Action 4 instead of upgrading my Gopro 10 purely because Gopro seem to think that action only happens in bright light and was so very disappointed with my Gopro 10 in low light so DJI got my money instead of Gopro this time. A walk like your one was just too grainy and dark with Gopro 10, just horrible in fact, DJI Pocket 2 was much better but not waterproof and had a tendency to overexpose brighter areas like sky above trees in 4K60 auto mode anyway.
