I think you hit the nail on the head with this video.. If you're a solo creator and you mostly do talking head vlogs and basic landscape shots I think this camera is great. However, if you like to switch between photography and video along with switching out lenses for different shots, the ZV E10 is the one to go for for sure. For someone like myself where space in an enclosed area such as a cockpit (where you don't want to obscure too much of the windshield) this camera would work great, so I'll definitely consider picking one up for creating flight videos and when I don't want to carry too much gear on a trip. 👍

I really don't want to sound like I'm starting a heated argument, but what is the difference between a "review" sponsored by the manufacturer of the product being considered and a plain comparative commercial? I mean a video "sponsored by the manufacturer" is no more than a ad in disguise, right ? I'm OK with ads, by the way, and I do get that everyone's got to make a living ! I've subscribed to your channel and really find your usual content great, to make it clear the question is genuine and comes from someone who values your content. I'm just considering the Pocket 3, but have a hard time seeing this video as even remotely reliable for that reason :)

I've got the Sony ZV E10 m1 as my studio camera, and use the pocket 3 as my vlog and broll camera. It's convenient because the Sony just lives in my studio for talking head videos, so I just fire it up, sit down, and hit record. The pocket 3 makes me actually go out and shoot videos, because of its ease of use, and while you MAYBE can argue a pro could get slightly better image quality from the Sony in those settings (this is subjective), the average content creator like myself is able to get WAY better quality results using the pocket 3 with almost no friction whatsoever.

The big problem with pocket 3 is all the missed shots and missed videos. All the great, unplanned, spur-of-the-moment content that you can't capture, because the device doesn't have the flexibility or capability. There are literally thousands of photo ops that happen only once, and every time you miss one of them, you'll be saying, "Dang, I wish I had a real camera with me". Don't get me wrong. The Pocket 3 is a great tool. It's excellent at what it does. But let's acknowledge the limitations. And remember, $669 could also get you a lens like the Tamron 17-70, which would transform the ZV-E10 into quite a "powerhouse". I mean, if I had the money, I'd get a good lens and the Pocket 3, but some people are going to have to decide what's better for their particular needs.
@livinginoklahomacityofficial2 ай бұрын
@@DavidYokelson it's definitely a tool. But I think you're looking at this like a zero sum game. I'm not a professional photographer or videographer, but I do make semi professional content for my business. And the likelihood of me getting out on given day because of the ease of carry, or grabbing the pocket 3 as a last minute thought on the way out the door is FAR higher than me packing up my sony camera and associated gear. So when in moments where I'm possibly encountering a great video opportunity and actually having the pocket 3 on me vs my sony rig is not even comparable. The chances of me just casually having my sony camera on me in order to just on a whim capture something amazing, is exactly zero haha. So that net sum comparison is going to look different for everyone, depending on their use for those tools/level of professionalism in the field/budget, etc. I am looking to get one of those Tamron 17-70 lenses though. I only have a sigma 16mm 1.4, which is great but would like to play around with a little more versatility.

Good response and valid points. For your use case, the P3 may be near perfect. What are some of the functionalities you're getting from the P3 that you wouldn't get from a high-end smartphone?
@livinginoklahomacityofficial2 ай бұрын
@DavidYokelson the gimbal is a huge plus. Active tracking is another for sure. I'm a real estate agent, and my channel is informational content about my city geared towards relocation home buyers moving to my city. So it's basically an education channel about my city first, through a real estate lens, secondarily. So my content is made up generally of 2 types of videos: 1. talking head information content (which is what I use my Sony for, as it just lives in my studio), and 2. vlog style content with either outdoor location based shoots or neighborhood community vlogs, including home tours. So the 2nd type is where I exclusively use the pocket 3. The gimbal makes for the smoothest shots I've ever shot, and I have a gimbal for my high-end phone. Not only is the pocket 3 far easier than a gimbal set up, but the results in my experience are far better as well. With the walk & talk vlog shots, the active tracking is exceptional allowing me to always keep my face perfectly in the shot, being able to look away from the camera from time to time without ever worrying of I'm in the shot (like you would on your phone using the better lens on the back). Also, the active tracking is amazing for solo shooting if I want to set it up on a tripod or on a ledge, and walk up to it talking to the camera. It will follow me around in the frame flawlessly, almost as if I've got someone manning the camera. And really, just the combination of those things allows me to get professional cinematic looking b-roll with the pocket 3 that would otherwise be challenging with just a phone. Some other bonuses worth mentioning: the ability to shoot in 4k at 120 fps, shoot in log format (I have a Samsung phone), and easy use of ND filters, removable memory storage, and the SUPER easy use of the DJI mic that automatically connects (I have the DJI mic 1 kit, but being able to use it without plugging in a receiver is amazing for instant great quality sound). Those are just a few things, though I'm certain I'm forgetting something. All that to say, I love this thing far more than I even expected. Its almost one of those things that you just have to use, as the specs alone don't really paint the picture of what all it brings to the user experience.

DJI burning money on all these videos. Nvu Films literally said DJI reached out to him to make a 1 year video on it - as if seeing all content creators do right now. WITH THAT SAID - I do not own any small cameras for “on the go” stuff. I have an FX3 and FX30 and both are mainly - rigged. I’ll take the FX30 out with a 17-70 f2.8 lens with me and unrig it if need be. But the more and more I’ve seen some IG and TikTok reels of people producing INSANE shots from the Pocket 3? For the price I thought “what the hell…just buy it.” Didn’t realize, I bought the camera a week before its 1 year release and now all these videos are coming out. I don’t have “1 year” with the Pocket 3 but I have “1 week” with it where I have used it EVERY SINGLE DAY to see “how far can I push this camera?” And the ONLY limit I have yet to see so far for what I wanted to use it for is - dynamic range. I’m not getting 14.4 stops of Dynamic range like I am with my bigger Sony cameras - but I don’t need that dynamic range for what I want the pocket 3 to do. As a matter of fact, it’s not even a “major” difference. Using my FX30 as a “run and gun” camera for just taking out because I want a good camera on me to capture things - I have to make sure I have the right settings, I’m not super over exposing, I’m not super under exposing, I have to go through a lot of menu settings to get what I want just for one shot and before I know it? I lost the shot. With the pocket? I set an EV level I want (I go -0.3 EV), auto ISO, keep my sharpness at -2, NR at 0, white balance mainly at 5600k or 6200k, keep it in DLOG-M, flip the screen, hit record. Got my shot. Even in a studio, control lighting setting - I find myself just grabbing the pocket. That 20mm F2 gives me the exact look I want, I can flip the screen and record 3k vertical for Instagram and not use my phone. That was the deal breaker for me. I used my iPhone 15 pro in Apple Log in ProRes ALOT but inwant my phone to do…phone things. It’s nice my phone has all of that just in my pocket…but I wanted something dedicated to JUST this and let my phone be left alone. This solved that for me. The pocket can be used in SO MANY creative scenarios like mounting it onto a car, where I can control the gimbal through my phone from inside the car, it’s great to take with me to conventions and I’m STILL getting that quality out of my FX30. Not the same dynamic range, 4:2:0 instead of 4:2:2 but I still have 10 bit color and so far have yet to push any footage too far to where it breaks. I actually don’t use the D-LOG M conversion LUT, I use FilmConvert for it and the footage just looks remarkable. As a vlog camera? A camera to whip out to make high quality shorts and reels for Instagram? Or I just want to use as a B camera with that wider angle? I’m using the Pocket 3. Like you said - there is magic happening inside of there and idk what it is - but DJI…keep it up. My fsvorite use for this is IG reels. I can grab my Amaran 60x with a V-mount battery on it. Use a really small stand for it and throw on an Aperture Mini Dome II, set my camera on the tripod, grab my mic…and in 2 mins I’m read to make my reel. It’s so easy I’ll shoot multiple reels in one go to have a backlog of uploads. Even if I don’t and get another idea for a reel? Just go into the studio, set it up, it’s less than 2 minutes (I’ve timed it) and hit record. It’s hard to really say even with DJI sponsoring all these videos you guys are actually “shilling” because IT IS the camera you all say it is. I’m not a KZbinr, I’m not paid to say this, and even though you guys are - doesn’t mean you’re not saying what’s true about this camera. It’s absolutely amazing
@seandewispelaere2 ай бұрын

For me personally i don't see a comparison at all between the two, i have the pocket 3 combo along with an extra mic i bought and it just sits there in my cupboard. The lens is far too unpleasing and wide, and the footage simply does not compare to my dslr cameras. I can't even use it for podcasts for the same reason, it is not designed to be used with professional lights either so i mean it really has no utlity outside of vlogging, and that too vlogging where a displeasing camera angle and an ultra wide head shot all the time does not lower your view count because for example you are an extreme sport athlete in the top 10 in the world and therefore cataloguing your amazing life in the moment using a pocket 3 was worth it. Im a comedian and actor and for me getting the script right is far more important and then the lighting and visual aethetics. I can't even use it for podcasting for this reason as i am not climbing a mountain while vlogging so why not make the footage look bettet using my actual cameras, which are easier to light also. The mics are a giant billboard for dji and hang off my shirt and they dont support pro collar mics with a locking ring so i can't use the mics either. Cameras have their use and the pocket 3 has it's limited use within the daily vlogging sphere, and that too a certain kind of daily vlogger. I can't even use it for improvised talking heads on vertical as when you flip it to vertical the screen is so small i can't see the frame and lighting like at all so i end up using my iphone. The pocket 3 is defintiely an engineering marvel, but i just can't find a single use case in my content creation on any platform. It's amongst the numerous cameras/lights and filming gear ive collected after watching youtubers rave about it online only to find it was completely useless for me.

@@seandewispelaere Do you think that it would make sense to get a ZV-E10II when I have a P3. I am in love with the P3 and I probably would continue using it for a lot of shots because I walk a lot on my vacations, and the ZV-E10II doesn't have IBIS. Though I wanted to get the ZV-E10II as a second cam because it isn't as big as the a6700 for example, and I always dreamed about having a system camera. I wanted to use it for photos + B-Roll because the P3 doesn't really have lenses and there is no real zoom so I am limited to one focal length, and cannot get that variety of shots that I would like to include into my vids to take them to the next level. Someone told me to use my iPhone to match up footage and that they do that to match iPhone footage to Sony cameras, but I have an iPhone 14 Pro without Apple Log and the default footage just looks oversharpened and so clinic, I am really not satisfied with it at this point. Also buying a 15/16 Pro just to get Apple Log because Apple limits it to new devices feels like a scam. So I thought about walking around with the Osmo Pocket 3 to capture all time (as I do already) and when there is really "professional" shot worthy stuff/B-Roll I would grab out the ZV-E10 II out of my crossbody bag.
