You get the point. Most people think a gimbal is only a alternativ stabilisation method. But the key advantage of a gimbal-cam is not stabilisation. The real advantages are the tracking features, motion control from the ground and the use on a boom-pole for jib- or crane shot with minimal setup-time using lightweight and cheap equipment.

Does it not have an iris control for light? I'd prefer to use that over shutter speed for light. Or maybe just the ND filters until the zebras go away, so the shutter can remain the same. Just curious.

@@JevenDovey Yes, I watched the video....really good and informative, just was curious about at 08:15 talking about the zebras and the shutter is raised to lower the zebras, where I normally use the iris to do that so I keep the same shutter. Or, I could choose the appropriate ND filter. Cheers! Great channel!

I did the math awhile back based off of the numbers people were talking about and how much time they were putting it and it its frankly a minimum wage job. the money you make covers the time to organize/edit/upload/tag at best but not the time it took you to create the shots. So I don't know if things have changed since then, but I still believe that time is better spent on sales/production of your video business instead of looking for pocket change selling stock videos.

I used it snowboarding last weekend but haven't had time to put together an edit yet. Unfortunately it was really wet and foggy conditions which caused problems getting focus. Other than that it worked pretty well. The moisture didn't affect its operation. It was a little cumbersome to pull out the phone if I wanted to change settings. I wish there was a way to make quickly accessible presets that could be recalled from the device. The small buttons were a bit difficult to operate with gloves but still usable. Footage was nice and smooth in follow and tilt lock modes and the tighter lens angle makes a much better shot than the gopro imo. I would still like option to use it on a backpack, helmet, and pole mount to gain more versatility. I also say that some sort of ND filter is a must. I used the Freewell NDPL 16 and 32 most of the time.

I saw a comment that a reviewer at either Best Buy or Amazon said that one has to basically agree to give away a lot of privacy information by having no choice but to agree (to it) if one wants to get the camera setup. Also, it's a little bit of a turn off (though not necessarily a deal breaker) that after charging the batteries 400 times one then has to chuck it into the trash can. I do very much like the camera for the most part, incidentally.:-)

You talk about mounting the Osmo Pocket on a pole and using the wifi module to transmit to your phone, but that is impossible. The wireless module can NOT be mounted. It has no way to be mounted without being modified by gluing something on. However there are a few wired options to do what you are talking about. First off you can plug in your phone to the bottom port using either usb-c to usb-c, usb-c to lightning or by buying a usb-c to usb-a adapter and plugging a normal lightning cable into it. The second method that would not take away the bottom port, so you can charge it at the same time also, would be to get a lightning or usb-c extension cable and use it to extend from the accessory port to your phone. I have used both methods and they have both worked but the extension from the accessory is nice since you can keep the pocket plugged into power if needed.

I see a ton of cuts in your work, which is awesome as you keep things on point, but how the heck do you do that from shooting to post? I literally have to watch all my clips (and in one session), front to back to find what I need to stay on subject. Fortunately, the POCKET now does allow access to the PRO mode menus directly from it's LCD screen. It's best value, which you hint at, is (1) it's always with you, (2) it does not attract attention, and (3) the speed at which you can turn on and begin filming.

You was talking soooo CLEARLY about, now I got everything complete and found out, why did this happend to me: I got 2500 euro setup AND lagging 4K footage, even with 30 fps. THX a lot, I have to start to use all my filters I do have. PLEASE can you tell me, UNTIL you charge the Pocket, can you shoot? Can you record? I cannot sell my Osmo since I know, that this one have built-in battery. Which means, I have one hour or 1,5 to record. In the big Osmo Pro I exchange the battery as much time I want too. And not so expensive the battery itself. But in case I sell my pro, I have to buy than 2 Pocket to have 3 hours of record ability? Than I going with my power bank and charge it, on the same time. IF possible. Osmo Pro have an Adapter, to the Power Outlet, you can use it with 220 volts, unlimited. (SD Card long) Can I do this with the Pocket?

I've been looking for the suitable camera for a specific purpose, which I will describe. So far I'm thinking the DJI Osmo Pocket is the best product, but I'm unclear about enough details to not be sure. So I'll describe the application here and hopefully you or other advanced Osmo Pocket owner can answer my questions and make any suggestions that seem appropriate (including which accessories to buy or what other product to buy instead of Osmo Pocket). Okay, here goes... I ordered a new, tiny, high-tech, 2-seat airplane that is especially good at flying low and slow past awesome scenery... as well as landing in tiny, rough places... as well as long flights (up to 15 hours non-stop at anywhere between 50mph and 170mph). I want to mount 4 or 5 cameras on the airplane to capture footage to edit into youtube presentations as well as longer presentations (documentaries or short films). And, of course, create a large set of stock footage. Which cameras to choose has been quite the chore to figure out. I started with the blackmagic ursa mini pro 4.6 because they have an awesome dynamic range and can shoot videos with no compression artifacts. But they cost $6K each without lens, are quite heavy and bulky for this application, and require quite beefy gimbals to hold and control so much weight. Furthermore, they block so much air that putting 4 of them on the outside of the airplane will cause quite a bit of drag. Plus there the question of controlling all these cameras and gimbals from in the cockpit is an unsolved problem so far (for me, anyway). Before I encountered the DJI Osmo Pocket a few days ago, I was considering GoPro Hero 7 Black. But apparently they can't smooth at 4K @ 60 FPS. Plus the specific vibrations and jiggles common at attachment points on the outside of airplanes are not tolerated or compensated for by the GoPro smoothing technique very well. Plus... how to effectively control several Hero 7 cameras remotely. However, compared to the BlackMagic solution, they are much cheaper at $400 each, and they are much smaller, lighter and easier to mount. Which brings us to the DJI Osmo Pocket camera. They are even cheaper than the GoPro Hero 7 Black cameras... slightly... and have REAL gimbals that apparently work quite well at 4K @ 60FPS, which is very important to me. Supposedly... though I don't know for sure... this real gimbal is vastly better at smoothing out the 5~40 Hz vibrations that are common on airplane surfaces, caused by slight imbalances of propellers and caused by turbulence against airplane surfaces. Maybe you can confirm or deny this factoid. One camera will be attached to each wingtip, nominally pointed left and right compared to direction of travel (that is, pointing at scenery and away from cockpit). Another camera will be attached to the body of the airplane just below the tail, nominally pointing forward and slightly downward (so the tires are usually just above the top of the frame, and thus not visible). Another camera will be located inside the cabin behind and between pilot and passenger, pointed forward through the front window with instrument panel visible in the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 the field of view. And finally, a camera might be attached to the passenger window pointing slightly forward so the faces of passenger and pilot are visible in the left side of the view, the left wing and scenery will be visible out the pilot window, and more scenery will be visible out a portion of the windshield in front of the pilot. My most important questions are... how the passenger will monitor and control these cameras! Because I don't own a mobile phone, and because I never plan to, and because a large ipad is a great pilot tool for flight planning and other purposes, I prefer to control the cameras with a large ipad. So my first question is... does a large ipads run all the same apps as an iphone does... including apps to control the DJI Osmo Pocket cameras? I assume so, but if not, I'm back to square one and maybe the DJI Osmo Pocket is not the camera for this application. The next obvious question is... how to control 4 or 5 of these cameras from the ipad. A related question that I'll pose now because it may interact with the question of controlling the camers is... how can all these cameras be powered during long flights (as in 2, 4, 8, even 16 hours non-stop)? My first thought was to find a 16 foot long usb-c cable for each camera and simply plug each of them into the ipad when the time comes to change the settings in that camera. In other words, plug and upplug the 5 camera cables into the ipad... one at a time as needed. However, this doesn't address the question of how the cameras are kept powered for many hours at a time. Furthermore, this doesn't address how the ipad is powered for many hours at a time either. My next assumption was... I can probably find a big honking high-capacity Lithium-Ion battery gizmo that is specifically designed to power usb-c devices... maybe even 6 or 8 usb-c devices simultaneously. Then all 5 cameras and the ipad can be kept full of power by this high-capacity battery in the cockpit. The problem with this is... the control signals from ipad to cameras needs to pass through the same cables. Which raises the question... how would one tell the device to route control signals between the ipad and desired camera? Unfortunately... though I know *NOTHING* about small gizmos and how they're powered or controlled up to this point... I have a feeling this is a bit esoteric for such a device to exist. Or maybe not. After all, there *ARE* a lot of gizmos out there these days. Which led me to my next thought. Maybe someone makes a battery that I could buy for each of these cameras and plug right into the camera (perhaps with the battery out next to the camera, or better yet inside the cockpit)... with a usb-c port that lets the signals pass through from a remote source. Does such a gizmo exist? Is this practical? Which led me to another thought. Maybe each camera can be powered by an individual battery next to the camera (or in the cockpit via a long cable)... and the ipad can preview the video coming from each camera in real time, as well as change settings on the camera, tell it to start and stop recording, change ISO, change resolution and frame rate, change other modes, etc. This would be rather spiffy if this works, and I guess WIFI does support multiple channels (hopefully including switching back and forth between the channels of remote devices, meaning the several Osmo Pocket cameras in this case). The wing and tail cameras will all be within 16 feet of the ipad (and the others in the cockpit much closer) so the communications distance probably isn't excessively great... I hope. The DJI Osmo Pocket cameras really seem like a great solution for my application... *assuming practical ways exist to make all the above happen.* Which is the question I pose for everyone here who understands these gizmos [and accessories]. The price for 5 cameras isn't cheap, but is still much cheaper than any other option I know of. And assuming the cameras can be pointed in any desired direction remotely from the cockpit, and the various track and pan features also work remotely, they are a lot more flexible than other solutions I know of that aren't huge, heavy and much more expensive. So, what's the verdict? Works? Doesn't work? I'm crazy. No, don't answer that last question. I've always been crazy, no question about that. All help appreciated.

Would it good for getting B role through your windshield, while driving? Would be afraid of sticking it out of the sunroof resulting in lens getting scratched or the filters getting blown off. Thanks.

Sure you can... especially with the focus shifting at 2:59 and 3:04... it's a fun little camera, but has to be improved

Hi Jeven! How long should a footage be to be able to sell it and what sort of? Also, do I need to do pro editing on them? Regards, Sasha

This camera is too noisy to stock footage, even with ISO 100. If you shot 4K then downscale to 1080p you might sell something.

You need to footnote your [ SHOW MORE ] comments that the Firmware Update xx.o4.02 DOES make PRO settings added to the Pocket. As of January 27, 2019 you not longer need your phone connected AND the PRO selections don't change until YOU change them....

In the clips of you climbing the snowy mountain, I noticed few focus hunting. Is there a problem with focus hunting on osmo pocket, or is that a problem with the object tracking feature?

I found that in 4K50, rather than 4K60, the face track and active track work. This frame rate is more suitable for the UK vlogger with our 50Hz mains lighting causing flicker at 60fps. I use mine for all my vlogs, but am looking forward to the mike adapter coming out.

Jeven, it would seem FPV mode is useful for literally pointing and shooting. In tilt lock mode, it's next to impossible to move the focus (objective, not image focus) especially if you're trying to shoot something not on the horizon.

One thing I'm not clear. When I use 1/120 shutter speed with 60 fps, it's conform with 180D shutter angle. But in this way, did I got same motion blur with 1/48 - 24fps? I mean if I shoot 1/120 - 60fps footage, if I change it to 30fps and 24fps, is the video still cinematic?
