Thanks for Demo. I am retired USAF SAR Advisor for NH Wing CAP. Currently active volunteer with local county EMA and AUXCOMM. Just passed my FAA Pt 107 test last Thursday, own a DJI Mavic Pro. EMA has DJI Inspire with Infrared Camera. Will be checking out S.W.A.R.M. website now. Also Private SEL & Commercial LTA ( Hot Air)

Yup, totally agree. sUAS is 100% applicable to missions such as this. IMHO battery life needs to be seriously extended. 'Loitering time' needs to be lengthened. The ability to 'divert', from the pre-programmed mission, upon seeing the person/object and 'circle them' or drop a gps-locator, for SAR personnel, would be useful.

Drones and Boston Dynamic robots* could be used to chemically locate cadavers, if the machines are equipped with decomposition sensing mechs. Perhaps the tech isn't there yet, but it would be a great application. *the ones you see being "kicked" and running up/down hills or difficult territory with amazing dexterity

Thanks for this video. So in your example, the flight time was less than the flight time for one battery on the DJI Phantom. How does drone deploy and/or pix4d work if your project requires battery changes? Will the drone return for a battery change and continue where it left off? Or do you have to set up multiple smaller/shorter flights and incorporate them into a larger project once you get to the computer processing side of things?
@aeroproimagingsolutions21255 жыл бұрын
Hey Ryan, If using Drone Deploy, the app will notify you of a low battery (mine was %30). Hit the return to home button, swap the battery, and hit continue flight and the drone should continue where it left off on the mission.

How do you handle the issue with the time needed for image processing as far as Dronedeploy needs hours to do this? Also Dronedeploy needs internet except you already preload your flight location.
@Project_Dragon5 жыл бұрын
Cool! So to legally do this all you need is a drone pilot license right?
@AeroworksProductions5 жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct as the FAA says that you do not do search and rescue for fun so therefore it is commercial. 107 or COA required.

What happens when you can't get the internet? I would use a 5.8 or a 1.3G to fly FPV with a ground station. If you do not have a GPS lock with the FPV gear you can still fly and find what you are looking for. But that's just me.

Great Info, and very good videos, I have a Yuneec Q500 4k. The price was right for me but was very disappointed in the lack of waypoints from day 1. I love the quad but someday hope to get an Inspire 1
@AeroworksProductions8 жыл бұрын
We agree. We also fly the Yuneec H920 and for over $6K you would expect some basic waypoint capability. The new H is supposed to. For unlimited waypoint capability you have to go 3DR, DJI or advanced commercial platform.

Will the app list the coordinates for each image, such as the picture that showed the hikers? I think you would need to hand off the coordinates to the search coordinator once you had something to check out. I've been experimenting with the Autopilot app by Autoflight Logic for use in SAR, but have not actually been on a search yet.

Just curious, Do you have to be a licensed UAS Pilot to do Search and Rescue flights with a Drone and if so how do you get quick FAA authorization to fly possibly near airports and in cloudy weather? You did a great job on this video and I would like to learn how to get involved with search and rescue with my drone locally. But I was just curious about
@jdfranz83557 жыл бұрын
Yes you do need to be a licensed UAS Pilot. Are you part of a department? check out www.soard-solutions.com.

Just curious, when you said you manually took control to land away from return to home, did you have to switch to attitude mode or did you just utilize the control sticks and that canceled the RTH? Thanks! Great vid.
@AeroworksProductions7 жыл бұрын
I always switch from P mode to ATTI then back to P to cancel. Then I can land where I need to. This method works great to cancel any autonomous mode and is a good habit in case of lose of GPS signal to take over manually.

I have the Phantom 3 standard is this app compatible?. I am confused about the wifi you mentioned. In the dji app I use the wifi off the transmitter, but in the other app you need to have internet access to use the app?
@AeroworksProductions7 жыл бұрын
Most mapping apps require internet access to plan the mission so that you can see the maps. This can either be done by caching the maps while on wifi and then not turning off your device or by having mobile hotspot access through your phone or a cell hot spot.

Its been awhile since tou fist did this but I would like to know if each photo is geotagged? So if you saw something, or you think you found your subject, where do you send the ground teams?
@AeroworksProductions6 жыл бұрын
You are correct on 2 accounts, this is an old video and yes the photos are geotagged. Now our software displays the Lat/Long during the flight and we can relay the coordinates to emergency personnel while still flying.

As far as laws go. I volunteer on a Community Emergency Response Team and we do get called out for search and rescues. For this sort of team do we need to have a Part 107 pilot or since we are not making money doing it? Same with a volunteer FD?
@AeroworksProductions7 жыл бұрын
csev erson Yes you need a 107 because in the FAA's mind you are not searching for someone for fun or recreation. Even though you may be volunteering you still need one. Take it from experience...

If you are flying airborne search and rescue in a manned aircraft, and are looking out one window and not the other, you're doing it wrong. Also, per FAR Part 91.119, helicopters do not have an altitude restriction. Drones have their purpose, no denying that, and are certainly more economical than helicopters, but they have yet to reach the effectiveness and capabilities of a manned asset.
@AeroworksProductions7 жыл бұрын
Doug Russell No argument there. There are places for both. We recently assisted in an actual search where the weather was VFR where the search was needed but IFR where the helicopter was located. We were on scene in an hour, the helicopter had to wait 8 hours. Obviously a prolonged flight over several hundred acres is better suited for manned aircraft when they are properly equipped with the right sensors.
@drussell157 жыл бұрын
Excellent point. Great video by the way. I've been a SAR pilot for 31 years, and agree that these devices have some excellent capabilities (enough to make me jealous!). Many law enforcement agencies are leaning toward acquiring these types of units to not replace, but augment the existing manned aviation units.
