You are better off using NCR high discharge cells and extending the arms to fit bigger props with mild pitch or making a custom light frame for it . I have custom built huge quads that spin 17inch cf props and they are very efficient but there not phantoms and they use low kv motors . I just picked up a phantom 4 with a dead battery so im having a look at what I can mod on it .

Good idea have you tried using just one battery? Maybe with less weight it would fly longer! In a year they will have better lighter batteries and you can do something different and be able to fly for an hour wouldn't that be great! Keep making new videos and have fun, make changes to the batteries and make us a video on how it turns out!😎

@claudiocosterni64887 жыл бұрын
Indeed, as you understood, you have added too much weight. So the motors are almost always at the maximum speed, you risk to wear or damage them well before the time and above all, there is no reserve of sufficient energy in case there is a bit 'of wind! You may not be able to return safe to the Home Point. Furthermore, this modification could be good (but with big reserve and the greatest attention to weather conditions) only on low-altitude and long-distance flights, but if need to climb a lot, if need to go at high altitudes, such as when flying around or above the mountains, this excessive weight is highly inadvisable. Better to put two 2S batteries connected in series, 4000 or 5000 mAh, as the LiPo ZIPPY COMPACT, if you do not find the LiHV alternative.
@michaelsvane26637 жыл бұрын
Claudio Costerni I agree with you if it was a standart mod, but what I did is that I went even further to get longest flight, so tryed out many different once, akso 2x 4cell 2400 mah witch is half the weight, but best result now I get wit the heavy 2x 4000 once, I placed them as high as possible (higher than the battery wings you can get) so that the tilt weight will be less, also I have modified the parameters for the tilt angle in sport mode, so now I am able to fly about 72 km/h out and back in week wind condition. My record now is 26300 meters flight in 28 minutes in sport+ mode :) AND this is in 0 degrees conditions! I am sure that I will get longer once temp goes up to about 20c here. But I am well aware that it puts a lot of stress on the craft and that the warranty is gone and that it will ware out fast. But: no free meal, if you want to do this :))

I am very sure around the world people are watching your video . phantom 4 is harder to do than the phantom 3 . also I could not find the battery 15.2 v to work with the original battery on ebay. they have 14.8 v .7.4 v. etc .... would that work ? or you can tell me where you buy your battery ? also if you have the final video that how far your drone can go max with the setup you have on this video. that would be nice. Jack from Canada
@michaelsvane26637 жыл бұрын
Hi Jack Thanks for your reply :) For sure theis is quiet a big job to do if you want it done right. I will make another video that shows,my progress and how the connections is done ect. (so please follow my chanal:) ) 1. Battery: the standart battery in the Phantom 4 is a 4 Cell LiPO pattery, Lipo is charged with 4.20v. pr cell so, 16.8 total (charge Volt) I welded a plus and a minus on each side of the powerboard on the phantom witch gives me 2 connecters out in the back of the Craft, this way you can install (must) a 4 cell battery to each of those connectors, so there is a lot of options in size and capasity. (Important is that it must be 4 cell like the standart battery. NOW you have 2 options, you can install normal LiPO batteries, (4,20v pr cell) OR like I did you can install a 4 cell LiHV battery witch are charged to 4,35v pr cell) here comes the tricky part, if you install the LiHV the phantom is okay with the slightly higher volltage (it will give you longer flight time, BUT you will have to connect the extra batteries just before you take off, so take off emiately after conneted the extra once, the reason is that the stock battery and the extra batteries will try to level eachother out, and that can result in an error message from the stock (intelligent) battery that will force the craft to land (i tryed that) I surgest that you start with 4.20v pr cell (buy the LiHV and charge them to just 4.20v instead og 4.35v in the beginning) I bought my batteries here: hobbyking.com/en_us/multistar-lihv-high-capacity-4000mah-4s-multi-rotor-lipo-pack.html Also a good thing to have is this: hobbyking.com/en_us/0620-20a-300w-balance-charger-version-2.html this is a charger where you can control the charge voltage, (You also need a power supply) hope this helps you a little :) Will make the video soon:) /Michael
@claudiocosterni64887 жыл бұрын
The DJI battery of Phantom 4 Pro is LiHV, is not a 4.20V LiPo. DJI smart board cuts-off the charge at 4.30V, instead of 4.35V typical of LiHV batteries.
@claudiocosterni64887 жыл бұрын
No problem connecting external LiHV if charging at about 4.30 ... 4.32V, no anomalies, no errors. To charge the LiHV at this lower voltage, the simplest and most practical thing is to use a charger that allows you to fine adjust the voltage cut-off, such as the SKYRC D100 AC/DC Dual Balance Charger.

G. Costanza hi, well I have both; the 300f (advanced and pro) without the screen, and also the p4p plus with the screen build in; both works with the system. You have different advantages and disadvantage by both models. With the one with out screen you are more free to use big iPad for example and to use other control apps etc, disadvantage is that you can not use the goggles full (control feature) for this you need the p4p plus controller..... hope this helps :)

@michaelsvane26637 жыл бұрын
Hi, Kind of a tough job I must say :) You have to dissamble the Phantom. In the back of the craft the powerboard for the motors sit, you will have to weld 2 wires on each side and let them go out in the back so you can connect your extra batteries. Remember to use 4s Lipo or Lihv on each side. I use 1x 4s lihv on each side, very heavy to fly with, but does the job, will sent some pictures soon :)

Can you use the 4hawks XR without amps? I know you can with the SR, but I am not sure about the XR ... can you tell me what all you have on your remote? amps, power supply, etc.
@michaelsvane26637 жыл бұрын
Jay Graphix Hi Jay You can use the XR without amps but you will not get much more out of the XR than the SR (witch I also have) for sure you should get the complete packet, it is just fantastic, only thing is that the system is very directional so you will have to face the craft at all time (like 30 degrees right or left max)!if I fly around houses or other I just screw on the small pinns (Antennas) With the setup I flew 13500 meters out and back (see video) and still had good connection.... This is the link (ps. Eu site, you can also find it on the US site too. www.maxxuav.eu/collections/dji-phantom-4-pro-pro/products/dji-evolite-kit-extreme-for-phantom-4-pro-and-pro Good luck!

Sorry, switched from my jgraphix account ... I flew 15800 foot out with the SR version ... still had full bars ... I was thinking of getting the XR, but I am not sure I want to considering I would run out of power before I got to use it at its full potential ... I think the SR is going to be good enough until a longer flight time is achieved. I have my Phantom 4 Pro up for sale with the 4Hawks SR installed. I also have an Nvidia Shield K1 I am selling with it, in which I just installed a new battery. I just purchased the Phantom 4 Pro+ Obsidian and am waiting on it to arrive in 2 days. So Stoked! I am really surprised you didn't double your time with that battery mod ... that blows my mind. Did you run them in series or parallel? Might try only installing a single extra battery to see if losing some of the weight helps. I bet you the weight is eating the power. Great video man ... come see me at country boy drones ... i just subscribed to your channel
@michaelsvane26637 жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, Regardng the antenna, I see what you mean, you don't get that much more out of the XR, but here in Denmark we have a lot of clouds, and here it is a big difference, XR with boosters is very powerfull through clouds compared to the SR without the boosters.Regarding the Battery mod: I have tryed different setups, and the 2x 4000mah is only good for long flights NOT heights,,, (too heavy once the air gets thinner. I use 2x 2400mah, like this: hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-bolt-2400mah-4s-15-2v-65-130c-high-voltage-lipoly-pack-lihv.htmlI am always using 2x batteries because of the ballance, tried to install one underneed the craft but the weight is so low down that the craft have a hard time to til (angle)Standart batteries is 4 cell so important to use 4 cells, (I install them in parralell) you can also do 2x 2 cells in series... tried that too, best results 2x 4 cells parralell.I spend a lot of time with the battery mos and the conclution is: unless you wnt to beat records it is not really worth it, problem is that the craft is using much more rpm's to hover, (because of the extra weight) I get about 30% more flight time as it is now with the 2x 4000 mah. (have to say that I only tried to fly in max 5d c plus as he warmest :) so when it gets 20-25 d c. here I should get more flight time!Congrats on your P4P Obsidian, NICE

i think 14.8v and 15.2v battery in parallel is a bad idea and you did not get a chance to use about 70% %60 of the 4000mah because they can go down to almost 10.5v to 11v safely the dji will land at 12.7 to 13v im not sure
@petermuller92447 жыл бұрын
4S LiPo wont go down safely to 10.5V (which would be 2.625V per cell). For 4S LiPo you should go down as deep as 13.2V
@deejaydixon8547 жыл бұрын
Peter Müller I have bin on the DJI blog forums I've seen multiple blogs that says you can take them down to 3 volts for the complete discharge every 20 Cycles that DJI recommends some of them agree with you 3.3v is the lowest you should take the battery but I was talking about lithium battery cells like in the cigarette vaporizers fully charged air 3.6 volts more or less safely discharge you can go as low as 2.5 volts anyway where it gets complicated is DJI Phantom 3 and above have 15.2 volts normal level fully charged up to 17.4 and they're good dead around 12 and a half to 13 volts so they're definitely a different full charge threshold and minimum charge threshold than a standard lithium cell (18650 cells) for a battery to safely be paired with the original Phantom 3 or 4 batteries they have to have a peak charged threshold of 4.35v Purcell and safely discharge threshold off 3.0v-3.3v Purcell and for that type of custom S4 configuration that will work with that configuration is that website link is one of the only place online that I can find that type of LiPo battery. I originally wanted to use lithium because lithium batteries hold more power but they just don't make lithium batteries with what voltage range that I can find
@deejaydixon8547 жыл бұрын
Peter Müller what I'm worried about is the Lipo packs that he had on that Phantom in the video those batteries should hit about 11 volts safely because they're 14.8 volts fully charged or at least that's what I saw when I clicked on the link that he put in the description but the way the circuit is set up on the DJI that he was flying it will not use most of that energy because it will think the battery is dead and force it land the battery pack in that DJI low voltage threshold is much higher than how far he can take down those S4 packs that he put on that drone consequently the drone will land with a lot more power left in the extra cells but only the official DJI batteries will reach critical voltage at 3v-3.3 volts and I'm willing to bet good money that's why they made the batteries like that to prevent modding I'm not a better expert but I don't see any other benefit of having an odd volt battery
@petermuller92447 жыл бұрын
Ah I understand, but you need some clarification: LiPo cells have a voltage range of 3.00V - 4.20V (4S Pack from 12V - 16.8V) LiIon cells (18650 etc.) have a range of 2.5V - 4.2V (basically the same as LiPo but lower discharge voltage LiFePo4 have a voltage range of ~2.00 - 3.6V HV-LiPo cells have a range of 3.00V-4.35V However you should only discharge 80-90% from the battery. That is why people recommend discharging LiPos down to only ~3.3V because you don't want to damage your cells. And a LiPo that has 3.3V per cell has very little energy left anyway and thus it doesnt make sense to discharge it any lower (except in an emergency).
@deejaydixon8547 жыл бұрын
Peter Müller and to that appeal I agree with you as I said in my blog before I'm really not an expert in fact far from it I'm just trying to gather information at best I was simply saying if the best voltage is that the exact same or at least reasonable to the capacity of the Phantom 4 and Phantom 3 15.2 volt battery pack the system will simply not utilize any of the additional power you add to the craft while dealing with the disadvantage of the added weight unless you're going to do some administrator override once it hit the minimum voltage of your batteries OEM threshold the software will force you to land and a standard battery add-on is not into operational voltage of OEM battery not to mention if you did over ride the software like that you would completely annihilate delete and Battery by the time to add additional batteries was at its cutoff voltage that's why I my first post I posted up off the market battery that matches the Phantom's 3 and 4 specs specs perfectly and I'm just recommend the 2800 15.2v mod that's the one I'm going to try soon im working on right now but there's 1300 and 1400 capacity battery on there with 15.2v as well which arguably might give better flight time based on weight vs capacity

Desmond Dixon Hi I do not. Quiet agree. The high capacity battery is a 4s LiHV battery that charges to 4.30v pr sell. Best thing to do is to buy 4s LiHV batteries and charge them to 4.30 (not 4.35 witch is max) pr. Cell. This will charge the 4s pack to 17.2 v exactly like the DJI Battery. You will get a great discharge right down to 14v ( 200 maH) I use 2x 2400 maH 4s or 2x 4000maH
@deejaydixon8547 жыл бұрын
Phantom 4 Advanced plus LONG Flights okay but what is the discharge voltage of the batteries that you added
@michaelsvane26637 жыл бұрын
Desmond Dixon 10c Phantom 4 uses 8-10 amp so a discharge on 10!does the job, follows the DJI battery all the way down to 14v Dont use 20 or higher discharge rate. This is the 4000 maH (I use one on each side) be carefull, they are heavy and makes the flight unstable if too wild moves :) hobbyking.com/en_us/multistar-lihv-high-capacity-4000mah-4s-multi-rotor-lipo-pack.html I use this one to charge: hobbyking.com/en_us/0620-20a-300w-balance-charger-version-2.html
@deejaydixon8547 жыл бұрын
Phantom 4 Advanced plus LONG Flights see what I'm worried about is I spoke to electrician he's a AC electrician so take whatever he says with a grain of salt but he said connecting two different volt battery on the same circuit is dangerous because it can cause a surge when the voltage stabilize or the fact that too different voltages on the exact same circuit And another thing I was curious about I wanted to use the batteries I meant ion and I can only get those up to 14.8v and almost twice the capacity can you can build a 10 cell lithium-iron battery pack for 45$-$66 with 2500 at 20 amp continuous 30 amps purse I think there is some Samsung and I don't mind solder in a doll I'm just worried that the Drone won't be able to use those battery to their Max potential cuz it low voltage to drone force you to learn which is normal but the batteries I'm putting on there can go much lower than the actual batter for the Drone I have a phantom 3 by the way standard trying to upgrade it
@deejaydixon8547 жыл бұрын
Phantom 4 Advanced plus LONG Flights oh yeah and I have one more question why is it bad to use a high discharge rate battery? I thought that's a battery can deliver more power then what the device needs I figure if you have less than you need it'll be a problem if you have more than you need then I will consume the energy needs
