Longer string gives more momentum to the suspended load which causes more instability than a shorter string. Hanging the mechanism off the back of the legs puts the CG far aft and causes the rear motors to work far harder than the front which then becomes the limiting factor for lift capability. Centered under the drone will give more even distribution of the load to the motors and propellers thus maximizing lift capability.

The length of the propellers are designed specifically for the drone. If you were to use larger (longer) propellers they would collide with each other.

Billy you're awesome but you're killing me. Your concern was how loose the bracket is. I actually know something you don't. That's a compliment though. What I did was I took a heat gun, not a hair dryer because it's not hot enough. I took a pair of pliers and gently put them on the four hook ons of the bracket. Being careful I heated the clips until they started to get soft. The pliers keep my hands from getting burned. Gently I rounded the clips to make them tighter. It worked perfectly the bracket is plenty tight enough it does not move around even when a weight is added to the drop mechanism. You should try this then add it to your video because it completely solves the problem and you don't have to be hassled with zip ties once again you're awesome

Cool find for the phantom, I figured it was gunna be pricey but $250 kinda surprised even me. I agree with some of your other fans who left comments, I can see a whole lot of fun stuff being hauled up a dropped from this system. As a retired firefighter/paramedic I can see several uses for this system, even if it was to just drop off water to a patient or person during a rescue, wilderness, mountain. lots of great or mischief reasons to have something cool like this. Good review and video Billy, quit college dude and do this full time, your really doing a good job.

As far as I was aware - Dropping things from Drones is illegal in the UK... when I say illegal I think it's against CAA regulations. As a few of the comments note there are already dropping systems being put to good use with lifebelts being deployed on beaches and public lakes. However, the potential for misuse is enormous and something to be aware of...

@jimfinch92546 жыл бұрын
The back two motors are spinning madly to do all the lifting. The front two two motors are just keeping the P4 level. You could carry more load if you let all four motors lift evenly but then your ability to use your camera to see the ground would be compromised. As far as the louder noise while lifting......bomber pilots flying decoy missions during WWII used to set with their engines to different rpms to purposely make them sound louder. They wanted the enemy believe this is a real mission and not just a few planes trying to mislead the enemy fighter pilots in the wrong direction.

None of the Phantom drones were designed or made to carry payloads. This puts a lot of unnecessary stress on the motors and could do major damage to the motors. This last week when I was at the show in Vegas I spoke to a DJI Rep about this subject and he backed this up 100%. DJI does make drones for lifting and carrying payloads, but not the Phantoms. I still enjoyed your video, Thumbs up!!

@billykyle7 жыл бұрын
An IMU calibration before each flight would be a pain. Only do that when you notice your drone not flying properly. As for the gimbal, it wouldn't hurt. Maybe start the calibration and while it does its thing get some other stuff set up. It's not necessary but can help with some fine tuning if something seems off.

Wow, actually lifted three pounds! Not going to try heavy drops like that! Too sketchy, the esc's could smoke-show on a guy, and down comes the phantom😩. Putting that many amps thru the battery would warm it up, real quick. Heat and electronics do NOT mix! Impressive illustration of the lifting capabilties, tho! I will be keeping all my drops under 400 grams. I made 4 emergency drops across a raging creek a couple days ago, and noticed a rapid discharge of the battery. Started with a full battery, and after 10 minutes of delivering the 4 packages, I landed at 52% battery left. The heaviest drop was 375 grams. Turned my " toy" into a practical tool, so I was pleased! I mounted my drop servo on a piece of light aluminum channel, that fits between the landing legs, when spread open. It sits below the camera, ahead of the downward facing sensors, center on the drone. All the motors and esc's share the same load this way. I thought this was safer and more stable. Seems to work good so far!

Fun Video.... BUT..... 4:59.. Badly designed mounting bracket for all that money :( At $250 USD (that's ~$340 Cnd). Way too expensive for the simple function it performs.. I'd rather put that $$$ towards the DJI Goggles. Would cover more than 1/2 the cost. For that same $$ you can get a Marco-Polo Tracker. 6:37 It is not a DJI Lightbridge product. No way it can do 7.2km. Maybe 1000-2000 actual tested feet. Half a mile is 2640'. Don't forget it is near the P4P's electronics and we don't know if it could be interfering with the FliFli unit's range. Easy to test though....
