I bought a DJi Mavic 3 Classic with the regular RC controller. From the get go I disliked the RC controller. It feels cheap, plasticky and toy like. The user interface is slow and laggy, the screen is just ok and it is so light that it lacks any sensation in your hands. Even after 3 months of frequent use, I couldn’t get myself to enjoy the RC controller. The price tag of the DJI RC Pro was a big obstacle for me to overcome however. I finally and hesitantly decided to take the plunge. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Every single dislike I had over the basic RC controller have been addressed. It feels solid, well made, and pro like. The user interface is fast and smooth. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and it offers many useful upgrades over the RC controller. Flying my drone with the RC Pro has been a different experience altogether. It is much more enjoyable and satisfying. I only regret 1 thing; not buying the RC Pro with my drone.

I'm dying to try one and see how the extra 300 nits helps. I had an incident yesterday, flying in the California sun with the RC. I had decent VLOS, but couldn't just my distance from a rock face on the side of a mountain that I was filming. I took my eyes off the drone to look down at the RC, and couldn't see diddly. I have a shade flap on my RC2, but didn't try my mini 4 pro because the wind was crazy. I really don't think that a hood would have made much difference. Do you fly in a lot of clear sky mid day sun? Do you feel that the 300 nits makes much difference? There plenty of other reasons why I would prefer the pro, but as a nooby I find the price a bit steep. You can buy a decent DSLR setup for the price of that controller, or a decent new laptop :-/ The galaxy tab s9 ultra is 14 inches with 930 nits...so my thought is that it might be better to just attach that to the basic controller, or the RC using a hdmi to usb c.

Thanks for this video. I own both…I bought the RC Pro for my Mavic 3 before the RC was an option (the RC came with my Mini 3 Pro). I like the lighter weight of the RC but everything else about the Pro is preferable. I like that I can load UAV Forecast on it and the brighter screen is great. I also like the extra or dedicated buttons which I use for certain features. It was a bit indulgent getting the Pro but for me was a great spend of extra cash.

It is without a doubt the best comparison of RCs that I have seen on the Internet. Congratulations. I have both because I bought the Mini 3 Pro with RC and then when it was compatible with the RC Pro, I got the RC Pro and honestly I think it's a lot better. That extra price is noticeable, in fact it is the only one I use, the RC Pro. In addition to being able to install third-party applications, there is something that seems different to me and that is the possibility of installing the FCC mode and that is another level, with a real range of more than 8 km, verified 👌🏻. Yes there is a difference in transmission penetration. I’m often on top of a cliff sending the drones down ward and with the RC2 I’ve always had to perch myself at the edge risking my life whilst with the Pro I can sit on my picnic chair a good 2 metres from the edge and even as the transmission needs to cut through that degree of rocks, it hasn’t failed me yet. I have the DJI RC and put a matte screen protector to dull the glare on very bight days. Made a huge difference for me living in sunny California. Great comparison breakdown as I was curious about the differences but for hobby use I'm super happy with the RC.

I have both controllers and the RC Pro is in my view the better of the two if only for the screen. I don’t need to be looking for shade to see the screen when I use the RC Pro as I do with the DJI RC. Penetration is somewhat better with the RC Pro with its four antennas. I have a Mavic 3 and the RC pro controller is awesome with it as the signal is always bang on no matter the situation. All the extras are just a bonus that come with the RC Pro. In combination with my Mini 3 Pro the RC Pro works very well. The DJI RC stored in a compartment of my SUV as a spare controller, I never use it. The cost of the RC Pro is prohibitive but if you are financially in the position to buy one then I suggest you do so.

Having owned and flown a 1946 Aeronca Chief 11BC, and having learned photography at the Richmond Hill Camera Club (Ontario, Canada), I'm tempted to buy the DJI Mini 4 Pro next year. I just bought & received my DJI RC for my Air2S. Looking forward to testing it this weekend. With a quick comparison to my DJI RC-N1 & iPhone XR, its heaps lighter & a bit brighter. Will test the range but happy so far. Also, the sticks have a bit more of a jagged grip on the tip which no-one has mentioned but I like.

Thanks for this video! Just starting to consider exchanging my M2P for something with longer battery life and the release of the M3P has me catching up on what DJI has been doing with controllers. My SC has been absolutely flawless, so I am disappointed I have to exchange it with either a serious downgrade in performance or a massive uplift in price to maintain what I have. DJI has certainly gone from the value brand to the $$$$ one! Three hour battery life seems low for soemthing this large. My SC lasts much longer than that. I hope it charges with a standard PD USB feed. The only drawback of the SC has been it won't take advantage of the PD charging in my car. It charges very slowly unless I use the brick it came with. I am a pro Part 107 pilot, and have a couple of the RC controllers and struggle every flight with them because of sun and screen brightness. I am always looking for shade. I have the first version of the DJI Smart Controller that I use with my Mavic Air 2. I use the Smart Controller's HDMI out with a couple of different goggles and it was worth the buy to get the HDMI out.

Hi, I did some range tests comparing both the DJI RC-N1 and DJI RC controllers using both the Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3. Both controllers provided the same range for both drones, 3 miles. An anti-glare screen protector helps visualization of the 700nits DJI RC.

Been flying the Air2s for a long time now, bought the mini3 and DJi RC and at £255 compared to £895 for RC Pro in the UK, I used almost 9 batteries on a morning around very familiar areas and still had one solid light. I previously had the smart controller with the air2s as it came in a package I bought, but sold that as I honestly found that poor against the stock air2s remote. This update has me shocked how good it is for the air2s.

I was considering upgrading but just got the iPhone 15. The phone boasts 1600 nits peak brightness (HDR) and 2000 nits peak brightness outdoors. Aside from convenience, does the iPhone 15 create a better alternative than previous iPhones? I guess what I’m trying to say is I don’t really know how to interpret those numbers. Am I missing something? I haven’t had a chance to try it because it has been overcast here every time I have the chance to fly. 🤦 Another great comparison.

Thanks for the video - very interesting. I own an Air2S and only have the controller that comes with the aircraft. I have an iphone 10X but found problems with brightness, especially in outback or full sunlight. Hiding behind the car in the shade can sometimes affect the signal to the drone and overall, the experience has been a bit hit and miss for me. My eyes are not great (I am old) so I tend to view the general outline of whats in the shot when flying. I note when I download the video there is a lot I did not notice when flying. I was wondering what people's views were about the performance comparison between the standard remote with the Air2S and say an iphone Vs the cheaper RC. I found having to plug the phone in and muck about with the app a bit slow and annoying and was thinking about buying the DJI RC to avoid that problem as it is within reach cost wise. that said, is it really any better? Any opinions out there about the comparison between the standard remote and the DJI RC

I bought the RC Pro to run my Air2S because, until just 2 weeks ago, the RC was not compatible with the Air2S. So the decision was pretty clear. Just a shame that less than a month after I ordered the RC Pro, the RC got an upgrade 🥴🙄 Oh well, now I have it and it is going to be a better controller with the brighter screen, great screen captures, file management and hopefully better short-medium distance penetration. Ultimate range does not bother me as we are required to maintain VLOS at all times and 4-7km is never going to be that.

It's worth noting, the RC Pro has RTMP livestreaming ability, while the RC doesn't. Even using a phone with the RC-N1 controller has livestreaming ability, albeit at slighly lower bitrates than the RC Pro. I really hope DJI gets this function in a future firmware update for the RC, but I won't hold my breath, but please let me know if they do.

Thanks for the review. I was hoping you'd say that the RC Pro was far better than the RC for getting down behind trees and in valleys or over a hill as my RC will literally lock up and lose the drone when the drone is only 300' away where I am in a valley with the RC Controller (mini3pro) and take the drone to the top of a hill, then lower the m3p down to below the tree tops to examine a livestock feeder level or check other assets, and the screen will lock, the mini3pro controller tells me to adjust the antennas and shorty the drone returns to home. I mean the moment the thing gets close to the edge of line of sight it's a goner. I've spoken to DJI Support and they said return it for service and yes Ive checked that all firmware is up to date. :-(. Was hoping the RC Pro Controller with the movable antennas would resolve my issue and because I was at 15 days DJI would not allow me to return it. :-(

If you wanna livestream your flight, RC Pro is a must. DJI was announcing RC also for being able to give a clean HD output, but finally it doesn't. Therefore there is a used for nothing USB C connector on it. Also, RC Pro is better to fly. Way more sensible, smoother joysticks. I bought my Mini 3 Pro with RC ....but finally I brought an RC Pro (even it way a pain to pay so much for it), and I say it worth. RC fels like a cute toy in comparison to RC Pro

The DJI RC pro is capable to video feed 1080P 60fps of live feed to the screen. If i am not mistaken the DJI RC is only 30fps.

Yeah the RC Pro has the better range. Out here in open Colorado I can get the Mini 3 out over 9000m and my Mavic 3 over 12000m but with the RC only around 6000m with either drone and for most people that enough.

I want to talk about the range. I have been using the stock controller and the most I get is 5.7 miles. The limiting factor here is the battery life, its already at 50%, so I cant fly further more to test. If you are in the high interference place or you do lots of videos and need the special extra buttons, then the Pro is for you. The range is the same.

I’m sure the Pro feels more premium and has better processor performance, but you’re paying 4x as much for it. Most people are okay with a screen controller that gets the job done and doesn’t dim out the display which I hated that on the iPhones with the RC-N1

Their is a work around to get to the Files page for the RC2 I forgot how i did it I would have to do it again but long story short I had a video stored in the on-board storage and for the life of me I could not find the file even though it said their was one video well once I was able to open the UI I was then able to take the video out from a screen that looks similar on the right side 3:03

i have the DJI rc but the better penetration seems to win it for me but then the price isn't worth it for that extra it gives , I am still wanting one tho

As an average person I prefer the DJI RC. As a millionaire I would prefer the RC Pro. I‘m happy about the compatibility to the Air 2S now. It took a long time 😏

It has to be a USB-C interfaced microphone. And I need to plug it into the USB-C port at the bottom.

@@keithtee7255 No it won't as the RC and RC PRO are both O3, the Mini 2 is O2 transmission and the MINI 3 PRO , AIR 2S and Mavic 3 are all O3

This is what I want to know also. I had the Mini 2 with the RCN1, and upgraded to the Air 2s with Smart controller, and noticed a HUGE difference in range & penetration. In a bad way. I’m now looking at the New RC, but want to know if it’s worth it. 🙂

@@majecphotography good for you! I would have done that too if I bout the Air 2 Sz. You can sell the smart controller on eBay. I thought of upgrading to the Air 2S from the Air2 but decided to buy the Autel Evo Lite Plus, which competes with the Air 2S. I use my Air 2 now mostly for 360 shots by attaching the Insta360 Sphere to it.

​@@majecphotography I think I might sell my DJI Smart Controller and get the TripleTek 8 Pro instead. That way I can use the DJI standard controller with better range than the smart controller AND I can use it with my Autel controller as well. Plus, it has a 1200 NIT display and cheaper than the RC Pro. It also has an unlocked LTE for a SIM card and GPS, a 3D GPU, and 256GB internal storage with SD card slot. It's also water proof, shake proof, and drop proof.

Whatever the pro offers i do all that in post production iny laptop or phone. I thought it really was going to come down to a little bit more in range for the pro but it is actually not so really not necessary to buy the pro imo.
