DJI Ronin S Balance Tutorial

If you just got a new DJI Ronin S, the first thing you need to do before getting those sick cinematic shots is to balance the Ronin in order to get the best performance and reduce the risk of damaging the motor.

Ronin S balance steps:
• Mount the camera
• build your Ronin S
• Balancing the tilt, roll, and pan axis
• Turn on Gimbal
• Testing the balance using the Ronin app
The Ronin S is a really cool gimbal that stabilizes your camera and if you’ve never used one before you’re going to love it. It almost feels like magic. You can be twisting and turning and walking around and your heavy DSLR or mirrorless camera just seems to float there unaffected. With all the movement your footage will still be super smooth. But you have to make sure that the DJI Ronin properly balanced in order to get the best results. So let me show you how you can do that.

Great video but I noticed that the balance test on the app stated to run the test with the gimbal slanted. In the video, it was balanced while vertical. Will this affect the outcome?

You're right. For a more accurate result specifically for the pan axis, DJI recommends that the gimbal should be tilted slightly. DJI started recommending this after firmware update 1.1.4 as they updated the test algorithm for the pan axis. I haven't found different results in the test when trying it both ways, but for the most accurate reading it should be tilted.

do I need to keep the gimbal in an angle while testing?

Hi there, the latest app update requires the gimbal to be slightly slanted during the balance test for the best test results. Though, we've noticed that without slanting the gimbal it will still give you decent test results, but DJI recommends slanting it for the best results. Thanks for watching.

Digital Goja I have a Sony a7r3 with a Sony 50mmf1.8 it’s not heavy do I have to update the firmware??? I can’t down load the ronin assistant on my Mac

@antonio medina Yes, we recommend updating the firmware of the Ronin S, and the only way to updated the firmware is through the assistant. Do you not have enough disk space to download the application or the application is not working with your version of Mac OS?

Hello, HD4kFILMS. You would tilt the gimble when balancing the Pan Axis. Otherwise, you can have it standing up for the previous steps.
