DJI Ronin SC or Zhiyun Crane M2 - Which one to get in 2019

I have both gimbals. I use the SC with my Sony 6400, and use the M2 with the Sony ZV-1. Personally, I leave the M2 mounting plate on my ZV-1 all the time, and I don't have to rebalance the M2 after unlocking it. I prefer the M2/ZV-1 setup over the SC/6400 setup, just because it's a whole lot smaller and easier to carry.

The M2 works awesome with my Sony a6400 flawlessly. Using the 35mm f1.8 OSS and ND filter, no stress at all. It just has to be balanced properly, but it's really powerful. Awesome video, thank you.

The M2 to lock you only have to slide 1 axis element but you have a memory knob for that axis to slide it back in place when unlocking, so its pretty easy to take in out of a pack

when you begin to use gimbals the extra size makes no difference, but your camera working perfectly with the gimbal is what matters. go for the ronin.

I LIKE your review! I'm interested in this Zhiyun gimbal and am going to buy it. I'd like to use it with my reasonably small and lightweight Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ82 (LUMIX DC VARIO Lens), but it's not on the list of supported cameras. I suspect the reason is the size of the lens (at 120x zoom mode) and the corresponding balancing restrictions. Could you answer to my question? Or what kind of gimbal would you recommend for this camera? Thanks in advance, I look forward to your opinion

The Zhiyun can handle small cameras, it’s all about the payload and how much your are expecting to til the camera lens. As long as you don’t force the camera to pivot up or down it can handle a camera like a Sony 7riii with a small Sony 35mm f1.8 for example but I find this gimbal best for a camera like my RX100 VII or a6400 with a small 10-18mm f4 lens. Again it’s going to be all about it’s maximum payload especially if you are planning to pivot your camera drastically up or down

I’m going a bit crazy trying to decide between the two. The ronin and crane are pretty much the same price now (£190 Crane M2 vs £210 ronin SC) but my device is an iPhone 12 mini with various lenses and filters. I wonder if the Ronin wouldn’t be an overkill and if I can balance my phone. Why I’d get the Ronin is because I’d like to have it for longer if I change my set up, and here I’m speaking about maybe getting a camera in the future, I don’t know. On the other hand, with a phone set-up, it’s hard to believe I would ever go past 700g that the Crane can take. What really makes it difficult is the similar price and that I know the Ronin is much better quality. Any ideas? Thanks

I have the Ronin SC and I bough it because I was looking for a Good Gimbal but it being WAY to big for my a6400 Why I never saw this B4 I bought the SC I'll never know, BUT,, Now I JUST ordered this for my a6400 and I can at least use the Kit and One of my Sigma Lens, from what I've seen both my Sigma 30mm and 16-50mm will work just fine.

Steve Nguyen i tried the a6400 with longer lenses and the M2 will handle some but with limited tilt capability. I say go with the Ronin SC is what I use for anything else. The M2 works best with a point and shoot like an rx100 or a A6000 lone camera with a short light lens and even so I had some issues although some people claim to handle bigger lenses.

PJ Davis yeah. I use mine with an átomos recorder no problem. Of course the recorder is side mounted on the gimbal handle.

The size difference! DJI need to make a smaller gimbal. A gimbal is only any good, if you have it with you. With the size of the SC, I hate carrying it around.

Project ME hey there. I’ll try to do that in the upcoming part II. The A6400 plus sigma 16mm is too heavy, you won’t be able to tilt up and down, the moment that happens the motors give out. However I’ve been able to stabilize it with the Sony 16mm f2.8 pancake size. It’s super light and affordable. Check it out www.adorama.com/iso1625ea.html
