Great tutorial Jake. A lot of people have front-heavy balance issues, even though the camera-lens combo is well under the max weight. I have the Sony RX10 M4 with the Ronin SC. Because of the heavy lens, it is possible to balance, but the eyepiece hits when tilting the handle down. Solution is from DJI but not well advertised. They sell a counter balance system that works very well. It is cleverly designed to hang out the left side, well clear of the gimbal, allowing full movement..

You don't need the cable connected to make the gimbal work only if you want to remote control the camera from the gimbal. I run mine without a lot. I am looking for the auto track capabilities of the gimbals since am a one man show for the most part and have the need to have at least one camera to be able to track my subject mainly panning not too much of tilting. Whats the purpose of connecting the gimbal to the camera? What other gimbals with auto track would you recommend that has at least 10 oz payload that can be used with phones? Thanks for putting this together. Yes, the manufacturer made their own video but this was a little easier to listen to and the 9:16 smartphone app screen share was a cool/nice touch. This part was also better than the manufacturer video because you didn't only show just the calibration part, but also the part before it where you can watch it test the axis balance to calibrate motor strength. Then the axis tilt test is performed. I look forward to trying this out. I'm using a cine lens on a Canon EOS 850D for a shoot where I'm not able to bring my full rig (based on the Sony a7iv platform, which has Amazing built-in image stabilization). The Canon 850D also has stabilization, however, only if you use an EF-S lens with the camera!!! So now that I know I have no stabilization and I will be off tripod for this shoot (because it's a 16mm prime and I get no zoom), pretty much I better buy a gimble or my footage will look like trash. 😅

@@JakeSloan Thanks for the reply, yes, the camera is balanced every way I move it. The issue seems to be when I balance test it thought the app.
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s strange. How does the gimbal perform when in use? If it performs well I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If it doesn’t I suppose it’s possible something could be out of calibration
@SorinHighstudios4 жыл бұрын
@@JakeSloan Thanks anyway. It seems to be a issue with the just the Pan balance. The tilt and roll are good most of the time.

When you have the sc off and all the axes locked, do you notice a little shake on those axes?

There is a little play (movement) in all the axis when locked yes.

That lens may be too long and front heavy for the ronin sc. It might be possible to balance it using counter weights though

Okay, it just won't balance out the tilt axis in the balance test. Is a GH4 with a Lumix 12-60 and a small shotgun mic just too heavy for it? It balances out but the test always says I should readjust it. I am at the end of my patience :-/
@JakeSloan3 жыл бұрын
does it operate as it should? if it does then use it that way
@david_ritzmann3 жыл бұрын
@@JakeSloan Thanks for the fast reply, Jake! It works okay, only the arm has to be set so low that the screw at the bottom touches the motor behind. That should not be, I think. Maybe I should switch to the Weebill S? It is supposed to be able to take more weight.

rhanks ive bought one these pro version, i own the gh4 and im struggling to fix the tilt and pan axis , if got the fist one to hold camera srtaight , its the motion to keep view straight when doing low to high shot it dips forward and the side pan to right and left is hard too , your videos are great helped me all the way , just stuck on this bit

I believe so but I don't know about that specific camera and this gimbal. it's best to check with DJI and see

Hey jake I just got the ronin-sc and I have the canon rebel t6 do I need a different cable to hook this up? TIA
@JakeSloan5 жыл бұрын
I did a bit of research and I couldn’t find where anyone had hooked the SC up to a Canon 6t. I see that it isn’t on the list of supported cameras so I’m honestly not sure. I would ask on the DJI ronin SC forums and see if anyone has done it there.

There are no numbers that I can share. The gimbal doesnt give them and every single setup will be specific to that camera an lens/accessory combination

No matter what I do the Gimbal will not stay in place after I adjust the rotation. The camera stays straight looking forward, but the second I tilt to the left or right it automatically re-centers. What am I missing here?
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
what mode are you shooting in?
@eszajer4 жыл бұрын
@@JakeSloan @Jake Sloan thanks for the reply Jake. This is during the initial balancing prior to turning the unit on. The Y-axis or up and down movement seems fine and the camera retains whatever direction I put it on, but after moving on to balancing the roll and tilting the camera (while the Gimbal is standing straight up and down with included stand on a table) left or right, rather than staying in place (like yours does at the 7:38 mark) , it always comes back to center. I just don't want to put any unnecessary wear on the motors. Everything else seems fine. A6400, w/Sigma 16mm f1.4
@JakeSloan4 жыл бұрын
Ahhh sounds like you might need to raise the arm that holds the camera plate up just a tiny bit and that should help. It's the same arm you use to balance the tilt axis.
