DJI Smart Controller + Phantom 4 Pro v.2
Now that the DJI Phantom 4 Pro v2 has been re-released, a lot of people want to know if the Smart Controller is compatible with the Phantom 4 Pro v2. We test out the capabilities in this video.
For reference, I'm using the DJI GO 4 app version 4.3.16 on the Smart Controller (v01.00.0530) and 4.3.14 on the P4P. Depending on when you are viewing this, changes and update from DJI might have been made. For most up to date compatibility related issues, contact dji support.

The only way the Smart Controller will work properly with the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 was through the beta app - which I tested last summer. I asked DJI Support and they said there was no plans to update the Smart Controller with the ability to fly with the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0. Yes you can link it. But you are extremely limited it what you can do. I highly recommend not to fly with it.

Hey Aldryn, Great to know. Those that have the M2P or M2Z and have the Smart Controller could actually purchase the P4pV2 ( just the bird without the controller) in after market and save a bunch of money. THe P4pV2 is an awesome bird.

Thanks for sharing that good news. Do you lose the P4P ATTI mode with the smart controller when linked to the P4P V2? Maybe that's why the GL300 wouldn't connect to the Mavic2 (even though I have ATTI mode hack enabled in my M2, replacing Sport Mode with ATTI)

Hi Aldryn, would it be possible for you to do a more lengthy flight test using the P4 V2 and the Smart Controller? Also, one of the features I like most about the Smart Controller is the "Switch Aircraft" command in the swipe-down menu. I have a M2 Zoom and M2 Pro and I can switch instantly between them without re-linking. If the P4 V2, once linked, appears under "Switch Aircraft" that is a great feature to have when you are in the field. Thanks for all your great content! Different firmware. Not surprised that it wouldn't work for the Phantom R/c with the Mavic.

Ty for video, but I have problem to link it. Both SC and Ph4p v2.0 =has new firmware. When I press that red button , while SC is linking, the red button is just blinking and nothing happen, cant get green colour :(

You linked the Pro 4 v.2 with the Smart Controller. Once done, will the Mavic 2 Pro still work with the Smart Controller or do you have to re-link it?

Richard Lowe You do have to re-linked, because that remote will be paired to a specific aircraft.., now, I believe you can use both remotes for the same aircraft (Mavic 2) but not just one remote for 2 different aircrafts. Kind of the same way 2 remotes can be used for a DJI Inspire... Not in the exact same way I believe..., I have not tried one for flying and one for camera on my M2P... probably my next experiment..😁 Happy flight and stay safe!

Brighter screen is the primary advantage, daylight useable without always needing to be in the shade. All in one RC is also an advantage, getting into the air quicker, no cables to connect, and no tablet to charge, plus you can quickly swap the battery, if that's important to you.

I tortured myself with that same question and for the same reason for 12 months. I'm sure by this stage you know the pros and cons of the SC. I finally pulled the band-aid off (ie found the money, any bought one last month). I am a long term iPad user (good set-up with a mavmount 3, hood etc occasionally I would use my Samsung S8 when I was in a hurry. For me, the SC is a winner. Some people will continue to talk it down but I haven't used my ipad or S8 since buying the SC. I don't even really mis the size of the iPad screen which was my biggest concern - you just adapt. With the SC you also have the option of linking a pair Moverios which I did. I pulled a second band-aid off and grabbed a pair of Moverio BT35e's and I am totally blown away by the flying experience. PS I am now officially out of band-aids LOL!

Hi can you definitely say if you were given the beta software for the V2 from DJI, or are you just on the last update the V2 had? which is what 99% of us will be on. Also is your V2 one from the first release of a year or so ago or is it from the new re release of the V2? One more thing is the smart controller on its latest software v01.00.0650. Just want to have all the info before I try . Please do answer this for me as there are many of us wanting clarification on this 👍 oh one more thing can you explain, is it that you can have a Mavic 2 and a P4 V2 both connected and choose from a drop down menu ? Or is it only one linked at a time ? As with the Mavic Air 2 about to release , that would sell more for sure if you could purchase without a controller and just link to your smart controller list 👍

OK I just downgraded my smart controller from the latest 650 firmware and it works so you need to be on the firmware before the currant one now which is the 503 as the currant firmware will not work but the 503 will.

It’s kind of tacky of DJI not to have the v2.0 controller compatible with other Ocusync 2 aircraft. The P4Pv2+ RC cost over $800 if bought separately from DJI, which is more than the Smart Controller. Oh well. It’s just another case of DJI being DJI

I just ordered the Phantom 4 Pro V2 and am happy to know it will work with my Smart Controller that I use with my Mavic Pro 2. When I emailed DJI with this question this is what I got from them. It stands too reason why P4PRO.V2 controller won't work with M2P. Although the hardware is in place, the controller requires firmware. It doesn't know what M2P is! Its about time SC supported P4PRO.V2. Now all the guys trying to price gouge a replacement controller for P4PRO.V2 can now go jump in the lake. Better off buying a SC for less. 🙂
