I used your method tonight and was able to successfully use an OTG cable to connect my remote to my iPhone 8 Plus - no problem and no error message. Even though I am in a "red-circled" no fly one here in Columbus, GA, I was able to fly my one day old Spark inside my house. So easy to fly!! Tomorrow, I'm headed north to get out of the red no fly zone and fly alongside/across the Chattahoochee River. Thanks for the video. Bobby

Also, I must say that I was having a lot of problems with my spark and rc, including: poor singnal, lost image transmission etc. I’ve even tried changing from 2.4 to 5.8 mghz but nothing helped. Since I’ve been using otg cable it’s all good! No more video transmission problems.

I agree, I bought the iPhone cable and it is just the right size! But I have found that with the latest updates WiFi from iPhone to RC works just fine! I keep my cable as a backup.

I just purchased Dji Spark this week and two (2) OTG cables came in box. (1) Micro USB to Micro USB and (1) Micro USB to Micro USB-C. They supply two cables in the Dji Spark Controller Combo.

Thanks for the nice easy video it was really helpful. Not sure why DJI would void warranty or the care refresh for flying in this configuration. To me its a much more reliable way to fly then Wifi.

I use mine with the remote and an iPhone. When I first got the Spark the connection was rock solid. However, once I did the most recent round of updates (app and firmware) the connectivity fell apart. I tried the cable route, but with my iPhone 7S, the lightening connecter slipped on occasion. Subsequently, I deleted and reinstalled the app. That seems to have resolved the problem.

I am having the same internet connection problem. After so much time this should have been addressed and corrected by DJI. I was going to upgrade to a Mavic but not now and I will probably be sending the Spark back for a refund next week! Really bad business here.

Just to update , the dji go 4 app was updated 2 days ago and although you can still connect using the otg cable about 2 minutes into the flight the app stops working... I'm using a Iphone 7 plus with a few different otg cables " also own 2 sparks " and they all have the same effect. It used to show up on the spark home page as a controller symbol instead of a wifi symbol when connected , so I believe dji has done away with this nice little glitch:(

I have a quick question for you. I am the proud owner of a DJI Spark. There have been so many videos out encouraging owners to use the OTG cable instead of the WiFi link between the controller and your video device (i.e. in my case the iPhone 7 or the iPad mini). I have purchased 2 OTG Cables (one sold by DJI which is the female USB plug to the micro USB plug and a cable that has a lightning connector one one end and a micro USB connector on the other end). In both cases along with either video devices mentioned above I'm getting the error message: WEAK VIDEO IMAGE TRANSMISSION when I hook them up and have the video devices in "Airplane Mode". Using the WiFi works fine. I'm therefore very hesitant to fly when I see this message. Have you ever heard of this before or have any suggestions. Any information that you have would be great. Problem with the OTG cable connection is that the app does not show you the number of GPS satellites available/connected to the drone, also some of the features are disabled. hve faced the same issue on both iphone as well as andriod. But if you use the Spark, RC & your mobile through the wifi, everything works perfectly fine.

So just sticking to the regular wifi setup for now. also I realised that by connecting the otg cable the whole controller with the phone is a bit cumbersome with the wire sticking out just where ur palm grasps the controller. I am just about to buy the Spark. Living in a dense Suburban area with close proximity to other homes and wifi signals the OTG seems like a good possible workaround. I also want to do a bit of indoor flying for practice ( I have flown RC copters inside successfully). Will this setup help clear some of the WIFi interference. Why does the OTG void the warranty?

Doesn't using airplane mode turn off GPS on your phone then you lose some flight capabilities? Before I bought the spark I read that somewhere. Maybe turn off airplane mode just turn off WIFI is better. Thanks for info.. Like the cable

+Mike Cameramike No spark doesn’t use any of the iPhone’s GPS capabilities. Basically everything it needs is in the controller and drone itself… The iPhone is pretty well used as a monitor only

I used a clean ipad WIFI only, airplane mode. No map data appears. I shut every thing down. Turned Ipad wifi on, internet connection, opened apple maps located my home area. Then back to airplane mode reconnect the spark with otg and now have map data. Appears if you went to a new area you need preview the map with internet connection first or fly with no map data. Correct can fly airplane mode if you preview the apple map first. Do not know how large area is saved cannot find any information from apple. Did not try android. I ordered an ipad mini celular, plan to fly with celular data on to be safe keeping map apple map data updated.

+Drone High check to make sure the cable you are using is data capable. Some are for charging only. Maybe try a different cable if you have one available to you
