If defense of Austin, I've seen him wide open on multiple occasions in the End Zone, including in person on Kenny's last play in a Steelers uniform. I view him as a wonderful WR4 and I hope our coaches finally utilize him properly. He should be schemed on crossing routes relentlessly.

Love Calvin Austin soo soo Under utilized to date .. I'm praying n hoping he has a Great year !! 😎

I hope Austin has a tremendous season. I like the kid, and what he can offer. Regardless, I still feel a larger, capable veteran outside receiver should be a priority. And I HOPE like hell Logan Lee can become something because our d-line is awfully thin.

It's hard to not look at the door of the OC's office when it comes to underwhelmers like Austin's career so far. I see Smith having a much clearer vision than Canada had. Anxious to see many of these players for the first time again. ❤🔥

Big Ben would've turned Austin into a star last year. Kids got talent. Hope his hands can match his route running this year.

I like Calvin Austin’s game. The Steelers have to utilize him properly.

CA has been a "team player" - respect! He does not seem to have ever been a whiner.

Calvin is a good WR3/4, we need use him with deep passes even as a decoy

This I believe will be a more defining season for Calvin Austin DK. Good J1Q, I too hoped they would have been able to address more on the defensive line. Not that I feel Cam or Larry need to be replaced but they still can get injured. The team still has options though, I still trust the process. Thank you DK Great show

DK, Austin was wide open on several occasions last year when KP was in spin cycle mode, I witnessed one in person in Houston on a 4th down! I've never seen him drop a pass and although he muffed a punt or 2, he never turned it over and was so close to taking several to the house! To those who think he might be in jeopardy of making the team this yr, NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

We need to look at last season as if it was CA3's rookie season since he was hurt in his actual rookie year. I have high hopes for him in the future with us.

Especially with a nfl level QB

I am surprised that you did not make mention of the 72 yard deep ball that Calvin Austin III caught for a touchdown against the raiders earlier in the 2023 season. That particular catch was made on the dead run and put his EXCELLENT speed on display.
@garrettSlingerland6 ай бұрын
Personally I think he was the most "damaged good" by the Matt Canada playbook that even after he was gone the team was forced to use last season. I'd still welcome an established wide receiver to the room, but that's not to bury Calvin by any means!
@alterego55506 ай бұрын
Im rocking with this take because we have a competent QB. He could be that Tyler Lockett for Russ
@johnmilesko97456 ай бұрын
Hey DK, do you see A. Smith potentially going to a 4/5 wide set occasionally just to throw teams off? If the opposing Defenses are expecting 12 personnel most of the game and running the ball on 65-75% of the plays, wouldn’t putting 5wr on the field totally put them on their heels? Great show as always DK.
@MarkCunningham-of7kj6 ай бұрын
BTW DK, I just noticed 3 weeks ago you did a daily shot about the WR need, guess who was on the photo for that daily shot? None other than Roman Wilson! How about that sir?
Right or wrong I view Austin as more of a 4th WR and yes, his size is part of that. The Steelers need the WR's to be a big part of the blocking as well in Smith's run game. Patterson will limit Austin's returns. I can see him being used only on a view offensive plays per game.
@louv44376 ай бұрын
Good question DK and you know what the answer is?? We have no damn idea because the offensive coaches were too stupid to see what they had and he sat on the bench, brilliant
@jonathanmiller83646 ай бұрын
Watkins was brought in to challenge Austin and ultimately be his back up. If Austin misses time, having Watkins speed as his backup should keep timing rather normalized for the QB(s). This statement was made with fingers crossed that Austin can become the fully realized threat that he is capable of becoming.

I want to see them throw to 80 alot more too, nobody can mark that height
@Saibot796 ай бұрын
If we trade for another WR fine, but would it be so bad to go into the season with a staring lineup of Pickins, Wilson, & Austin? This isn't Kenny throwing the ball...Or worse Canada calling the plays

Thanks for the question. Ive been wondering why wr wr wr. DLine?

Before listening, I just want to share my thought that I like Calvin Austin. I was excited when they drafted him. It was disappointed when he missed his rookie year, I was glad to have him back last year. No question that at least in part, he's been held back by Matt Canada, the entire offense was and we've seen flashes of what he can do. But, and it's a big butt, I cannot feel comfortable banking on a 5'8"wide receiver that I have never seen be consistently productive for at least half a season in the NFL

I believe young recievers with traits are developing, they could blossom giving more experience.

Benton will be a good solid DT for the next few years. I think we will be looking for DE in the next draft though since Cam could retire after this year maybe next year at the latest....which will be a sad day.
@luisd89176 ай бұрын
Mr.DK is it possible that Calvin Austin IIl can benefit from Frisman Jackson being replaced as wr coach with Zack Azzanni❓️Not sure if Jackson was the problem with the development of both Austin n Pickens or just Azzanni fits more with Arthur Smith's offensive scheme i guess will find out soon enough.

I've been wondering the whole WR thing. I like Austin
@SN-yn6it6 ай бұрын
Muth, Najee, Austin and even Diontae, suffered under Canada and Kenny. You can’t put a price on raw speed and talent. Eventually a secondary or safety will make a mistake and Austin can burn them for it on the deep ball.
@Vinteroffer6 ай бұрын
I want to believe in CA3, he seems like a really good guy and hard working, but last year was so disheartening. Hopefully having a competent coordinator and QB gives him a big boost. It's hard to put a numbers expectation though because even in an ideal situation he's probably 4th in the pecking order for targets.

Austin might just make his money this year, could see him being a pro bowler with the new kickoff rules

I've got Austin down for 55 receptions and 10 touchdowns this season. Minimum. #8-8-1
@Prophecy19686 ай бұрын
Bottom line is the Steelers need to utilize him better!! DB's and DC should fear this guy every time he takes the field because of his speed which makes him dangerous and a good decoy.
@BrownSquid0536 ай бұрын
Hopefully they utilize him more this season. Or they'll trade him away and defense will get torched. The kid has got some wheels.

Like austin alot.hes not gonna get a lot of action .if your not a 1 or 2 in this offense hes still gonna make his splash as a returner.i really dont know why any reciever would want to play in this offense especially if your playing for a contract.in contrast Darnell Washington should actually get some bump in numbers.
@neilenglish85826 ай бұрын
I would love to use him as a SWISS ARMY KNIFE...return kicks or punts..at RB..at WR...let his speed effect the defense

I think you have too many fingers in the pie ( baseball, hockey and football) to be objective in evaluating Talent. ie: c.Austin, if the Steelers thought of Austin as you, they wouldn’t be looking for a wide receiver . They are keeping him as a fall back option.
@edbrink70336 ай бұрын
Don’t waste Calvin Austin’s talent like the other OC did…😳
@CormacCarey-mc2ro6 ай бұрын
Hey DK Given whats happened with Diontae and now Najee getting his 5th year option rejected... is it fair to say Friermuth should be (kinda deservedly) worried about himself too. I'd take Warren over Najee and tbh never a Diontae fan. I like Muth buuuuut I don't think he is durable or has a regular impact in enough games
