How close have you set the counter blade to the blades on the drum? 0.5mm seems to be the right distance for most chippers to make them drag in the material effectively.
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid4 жыл бұрын
@@SebastianFerenczy It was set when we got it and it is bolted. Not sure what it is. I think a half a mm (you wrote .5mm) is super small. Maybe you mean .5 cm which would be 5 mm?
@SebastianFerenczy4 жыл бұрын
@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid No I really mean 0.5mm. The greater the distance, the worse it cuts. Watch this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYuckoaMmJqtZ68 it is also a wood chipper with a 15hp motor and the reason why it chops and pulls in the branches so well is because they set the distance to 0.5mm. Loosen the bolts that hold the counter blade in place and adjust it to the desired distance to the knives on the drum.

I've had mine for about a week and have only put a few hours on the machine. I'm using it to thin out what we call cedar (Ash Juniper) on my property. So far so good. It eats up 3-4" green wood with no problem. I don't plan on chipping anything larger than that. Unlike yours, mine came with a thick rubber safety flap on the feed hopper and it seems to help prevent kick back. It does self feed too fast and will stall itself if I put too much (especially small greens) in the hopper at one time and don't hold them back a little. If it holds up over time I'll be really happy with this purchase. It does seem more solidly built than I was expecting from a ~$2k Chinese made chipper.

I just used mine for the first time yesterday. I was impressed. A few things I didn’t like, very loud. it’s direct drive so a little more to pull Start to get running. Gravity fed so branches bounce back ( never stand behind it) I saw 6”-8” long x 2”- 3” wide pieces fly 20’ back. What I did like, quality of unit is durable, kohler motor is great. Ran for three hours in a tank of gas. I am sorry for buying at Home Depot. The crate was so damaged. They said the unit was scratched. I made the mistake on taking their word for it and a accepted it. When I opened the crate, the gas tank was dented bad and gas cap was broken. And they didn’t want to hear it. Good price for a new unit.

@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid joking aside what exactly makes it worth the $1000+ price tag for you? I tried a 4" unit to see if it would help keep the bulk down with branches on a tree removal job and only found it be allot more time and trouble than just running over the ruffage a couple times with a beater mower. Those six inch units seem too big to justify hauling out to a job if you still have to take the time to individually feed and manhandle each branch into it plus still having to limb the tree trunk anyway. idk, the more I look into chippers the more it seems that only the very large diesel units with a feed mechanism are worth their spit.
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid4 жыл бұрын
It’s worth it to us because we only use it in our land (30 + 105 acres) that is mostly only accessible by atv. Thus unit is towable with the atv off road and dies a great job in helping us clean up the forest. We would never be able to mow any of those areas and we can’t even get our tractor into most areas yet either. We are working on widening the trails though.

What type/size belts are best for the chipper?
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t needed to worry about that yet so I’d say whatever it states in the directions👍
@rosewoodsteel66563 жыл бұрын
@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid That's the problem. I don't see any belt information in their literature. Nothing. I was hoping to order a couple of spare belts with the chipper. I've seen reviews indicating that it's wise to have extra belts handy.

We currently put them on the atv trails and around our little camp. When the homestead is built we will use them in our gardens and for the animals as well! Have a great day :-)

I have the 5 inch chipper, it does really well chipping. But it has a major problem with the design. The center of gravity is way to high, and it makes it totally unstable when you drive from point a to b... If the ground is not perfectly level it will fall over. I have huge dent in the gas tank and today I knocked off the air leaner trying to dive on a gravel road that was higher on one side than the other. If the unit tips even alittle to one side its going over. It has a horrible design flaw.

That’s awful! We’ve dragged ours all over and never had that problem! Though I did knock it over once when it was on a slight sideways incline I accidentally tapped it with my ATV …

@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid5 жыл бұрын
No it's not too rough and we really wish we could stay there...but alas, we work full time jobs and must return to reality. We will be there full time in another year when we retire. It can't happen fast enough!
