Brilliant! Whilst the voice recognition makes for a cool vid, the real beauty of Android Tasker is doing this stuff without even touching the phone! Like automatically switching on lights if I get home after sunset, or switching on the underfloor heating 30mins before whatever my alarm is set to, but only if it's cold enough to need it. Beat that, Apple.
@TheMoneyfarmer11 жыл бұрын
Man, you are brilliant! I have found my focus and knowledge to be a bit lacking when trying to set up commands on tasker in the past, but you have re-inspired me. This is so amazingly cool! Thanks for sharing. Peace :-)

Isn't it easier and faster to do it by yourself? Im just so greatful that when I grew up in 90's, there were no cell phones, no internet, life was so easy and simple.

I was thinking the same thing. For the amount of delay in the commands, I could have already done it myself.

Try the Autovoice app for Tasker, it's like Google voice search, it recognizes what you say and does stuff based on the context.

Is there some sort of way that you could hook up external microphones all around the house so that way you could just speak to your system from anywhere in the house, hands-free, by a simple "ok google"? i.e. (walks toward bedroom)...."ok google, goodnight"..... and everything thing shuts off in the house. ...??? Is this possible?
@onusai8 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is really old, but I think it is possible. If you set up a main system, say an old computer running linux or raspberry pi, write some app to that can access all of the items you wish, like the tv, lights, ect. (not sure if anything like that already exists and can be downloaded) and combine with some speech to text program. then somehow setup the microphones around the house. Im not sure how the actual listening part would work though, would it be always listening for your commands? that would require it to always be running the speech to text program constantly analyzing all sounds, or maybe make it to constantly analyze only when you want it to, for example when you home.. activate it by telling your phone "im home" and deactivating it when you say "im out". Im sure it is possible, I dont know how exactly, but this is just my idea on how it would work

Yeah, those with no tech knowledge would call it fake. Those in the know, know this is pure tech savvy!

It' s not about Android. It' s about electronics. I believe that creating the App was the easy part of all this stuf. I think that the difficult part is how to connect all these power enabled devices in one receiver and how this works. The android app just sends the commands to this receiver. This is the trivial. I would like to see an article on how this can be done. Good job and good luck with you career Doug Gregory!

Voice-controlled Home Automation with Android. I'm controlling a Home Automation system using Android and my Voice. How is that title misleading? I understand where you are coming from, there is a difference between Automation and Remote Control, but understand that the Vera is the Home Automation engine, which allows for scheduling, scene programming, notifications and all the elements of "true" automation. If you weren't aware, Tasker is an automation engine as well, exclusive to Android.

Wow, thats fantastic!!! I will definitively intergrate some of that cool things in my house. Everyone in my house is using Android devices from smartphones and tables to android tv boxes and chromecast, so it should intergrate well.

To you thinking this is fake, I can reassure you this is NOT fake! I have my Xperia Z setup with AutoVoice and Tasker and it is KING! Every time I hit the voice button and say my phones name "she" responds and I can give her a command! One thing to note though is that it will only respond to the commands you set up, it doesn't automate everything from scratch! Tasker is THE best app you can have on your phone, its worth it's weight in gold! =D

This is amazing. I was able to find the Reddit post about this, however, there doesn't seem to be much details. Any chance you could explain how this is all accomplished? And for those of you who are calling him lazy...imagine how much work he had to put in to get this all working.

Tutorial, please! Nothing fancy, just take us on a short tour of the hardware (close-ups where necessary) and the software (mostly, the setup you went through, and any fine-tuning, trial-and-error stuff you dealt with). I'm SO envious of your automation! By the way, which Google TV hardware are you using?
@MrRelys11 жыл бұрын
Quite simple really. It looks like he already has one of these installed: micasaverde[d0t][c0m] And a GoogleTV. Both systems have API's and he uses and Andriod application called Tasker along with AutoVoice and AutoRemote plugins.

One can do this with an Apple device. All you need is the right set up. As for Android, you are only limited to what you can do with Android. The possibilities are endless. All it takes is the right imagination with such an open OS.

It's truly awesome, but it's actually much easier to set up than it looks. +1. Since you don't mention the use of an IR blaster, are you using a Z-Wave wall outlet? Most TVs don't turn on when the power's supplied (only going to standby) so I'm interested in knowing how you integrated this part.

I am just a little put aside by you saying this isn't home automation...I understand speaking and making something turn on is an exchange for a switch, but playing a movie, syncing lights with pausing, etc., is automating many processes. Also, which would be more misleading? Categorizing this as automation or remote management? The guy was in his own home making stuff happen in his own home. Do you go to "remote management" to buy a TV remote? :P

Can you control your fan ? also, if yes can you control the speed of the fan and dim the lights in it?
@whatevyouknow11 жыл бұрын
Anyway, this is kind of a semantic debate now, I feel "automation" is the subject of the title and you want it to be about the apps/hw. There are videos claiming to be about automation but they have someone talking to their phone or tapping an NFC pad and a door unlocks or a light goes on. There's an explicit action to invoke a single action which to me is not automation. Automation is pulling into the driveway and the front door unlocks. PS I run a MCV and Tasker myself. Cool video
