"Parasite" stuck a cord with Western people because of the displayed class war - which is a problem in all societies (increasingly in the US & the EU too). Western viewers can relate to Kim family despite Korean-specifc cultural references and metaphors, and the movie deserves all the recognition. In my opinion, it was the best movie of 2019! I'm generalizing, sorry, but that's just how it is. 3) At this point, it's not immaturity anymore. It's a serious mental and emotional issue that coursed through alcohol. He issued a letter, he was apologetic in social media. How should he face the critics? Sit and drink coffee with them? Does he need a press con for a public apology? He is a celebrity, not a politician. • No empathy, whatsoever. He made enough money, eh? That's a kind of statement from a poor disgusted of the rich. Also, such kind of people do not understand that there are jobs driven by passion and dreams. Not the kind of office desk job that one can apply for, resign and apply in another company. There isn't a big drug problem in Korea? Or it's just being hidden well from the public? Also, drugs is not the problem in Korea, its depression and suicide for most people, celebrities alike. Celebrities can't do drugs, cannot post anything negative in social media, expression through music or other art forms are also limited and more. There's no other outlet for people but to internally struggle and entertain the idea of suicide. I love Korea. I love the food, music, film and art in general. The country is laden with beautiful scenery and rich culture. But there's just certain behaviors and norms that I just can't fathom. What he found shocking was highly normal here. Many foreign fans of top have no issue of him smoking pot. Many netizens need to chill and pop a xanax.

He's still korean subject to their law even if he live in america .He still can't gamble and smoke weeds .The problem of Korea is their closed mentality ,they always expect celebs to be perfect that once you make mistakes they torn you to peices !

So what? Drinking publickly is absolutely normal. I can't understand why your country ban it. Gambling is more harmful than drinking publickly.
@janicesharon35464 жыл бұрын
bluewater in America, drinking or having an open container of alcohol is mainly banned (in some states it is not though) in areas like vehicles, sidewalks, and open spaces. It is ok in restaurants and bars and those kinds of places of course. This is to prevent people from being drunk in public lol and causing damage/disturbances, and also to prevent people from driving while drunk. Both drinking (excessively) and gambling are horrible for you lol so I dislike how accepted it is lol

I’m not Korean (or even Asian!) but I was so happy and proud to see Parasite win! Especially when there are several actors in the movie that I love from watching in dramas, like Lee Sun-Kyun and Choi Woo-Shik (loved him in “Hogu’s Love“). Good for them!!

I worry so much about TOP. I think he has some serious issues and the media really don’t help with that
@giftb34384 жыл бұрын
I already knew Parasite would win Best Picture. No other movie made such a huge impact on the film industry this year. The way people were able to connect with and appreciate the story and the mixture of genres all while the film is in Korean, really speaks to how well produced, acted out and directed the film was. I was so happy when the crew went up to receive their awards, they should all be very happy because they impacted the world yesterday-hopefully this also means more international films can shine as well.
@jamesrawlins7354 жыл бұрын
It wasn't a sure thing. Roma last year was the best picture and considered the front runner but lost out to a "safe" pick. Also other big names such as Kurasawa and Felini didn't win - and Parasite got shut out at the Golden Globes and the BAFTA, as well as the Directors Guild (1917 took those awards). While Parasite was considered perhaps the best picture, the fact that Parasite was a foreign film was a challenge. I am so happy - but it was far from the guarantee (even for Best Director)
@giftb34384 жыл бұрын
@@jamesrawlins735 Nah for me I knew it for sure. It wasn't the film that was predicted to get Best Picture- ppl thought it would be 1917 (An amazing film too btw) . However, me personally considering what the movie represents, and the international appeal it had, I knew for sure, it couldn't be sidetracked even if it was in Korean and not an English Language.

I think TOP means he won't come back as a soloist in Korea, just like how Daesung went to Japan after his accident. Of course, I could also see Bigbang avoiding Korea for a while because of Seungri's scandals and not wanting to answer for anything about Burning Sun. They're better off doing Coachella and focusing on international promotion because avoiding those questions is easier in the West.

Yep. I am a VIP and I am triggered. We have a man with clinical depression and I am sorry but he is living in an unforgiving country. He has clinical depression. His BIG wrong is SELF destructing behavior and people won't stop kicking him while he is down. It doesn't matter how he acts or what words he says. People being hateful will always find a way to twist it. I just watched Demi Lavato's performance from the Grammys. She wrote her song she sang just days away from going to rehab. You could feel the love and support from the audience and the KZbinrs who reacted to her performance. There is such a big contrast between behavior towards her and T.O.P. It brings tears to my eyes for this man. My hope for everyone who thrives to spread hate in this world learns to feel hate thrown at them and feels the damage that it can cause. Basically I hope Karma truely is a Bitch.

Bong JoonHo prevented Harvey Weinstein from cutting Snowpiercer by 25 minutes. He also made him keep the "fish scene" in as a tribute to his late father who was a fisherman, Weinstein agreed. He later revealed that that was "a fucking lie", his father was not a fisherman, the scene was just one of his favourites. This is my favourite quote of his: “Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films". We have no choice but to stan this man and Sharon Choi, his amazing translator.

As an Asian I am happy that we are finally getting recognition. On the other hand, while the kpop industry and entertainment industry boom, there needs to be change within the Asian culture. The judging, closed minds to change, hating LGBT, the hierarchy/age stance, etc. Even T.O.P. doesn't want to ever go back or you have idols go to the US and never come back. If something in someone else's life isn't harming you then why do you care? It's nosey and selfish to break others because of your own opinion. No one treats others as they want to be treated and it's bs. There is always some sort of backlash when someone is honest/real. Asian culture needs to wake up, it's 2020.

I guess BB is the bad boys of K-pop? TOP hasn't done anything truly terrible that he should have to reflect on. He didn't hurt anyone by smoking pot and nobody else in the world should care what he's doing by himself in his own living room. I don't need him to be perfect and clean. I want him to be happy and to make music because he likes making music. If I find out he beats his girlfriend or something like that, then that's a different story. But smoking pot? Who cares?!

Congrats South Korea and to the Parasite team. I’m tearing up while looking at the clips from the Oscars today specially at Bong Joon Ho’s speech as Best director and I’m not even Korean. I’ve been always a fan for so long now of Korean dramas and films, also I love watching Runningman variety show. I’m so happy that Korean artists finally got recognized in the world stage. I’ve known director Bong JooN Ho too when I first heard BTS’s song “Spring Day” when his film “Snowpiercer” was mentioned in the lyrics. And from then on I was introduced to his great films. There’s just so much art in your country Korea. CongRatulations! I love BTS and Bong Joon Ho! From 🇵🇭.

I watched this at home on tv in the US and the best part was seeing the Oscars turn the lights off on her (the exec prod) and the whole room shouting "UP!" As in "bring the house lights back up." And the LOOK ON THEIR FACES when the loghts came back on. They cheered so hard for them! I was shouting up too with my family(we watch all the award shows every year). Then the elderly lady was sooo sweet and she dedicated the Best Picture Oscar to Korean audiences back home for their criticism and high standards of cinema to push the envelope. Ya'll freaking slayed the night! It also means alot to Americans that Parasite won b/c Americans who speak 2 or more languages are looked down upon as a whole. So Parasite kicks down the door for 1st and 2nd gen Americans with stories to tell. 👏👏👏🙌💜💜💜💜💜

This is random, but I love that you guys used she/her pronouns when talking about the transgender girl! I’ve seen so many people on KZbin still use transgender people’s old pronouns and it’s so frustrating. An example of something I saw in a different video: “This person is Male to Female transgender, and *he* got denied access-“. I know it’s random, I just want to say I love that you guys acknowledged the fact that she is indeed a woman! And you kept using she/her when talking about the disgusting people trying to take her rights away. Just. Thank you two a lot! Little things like using pronouns correctly means a lot to a lot of transgender people right now, especially ones who are stuck in a society who doesn’t accept them. ❤️
