Both covering up by wearing suits or having flesh showing in provocative outfits can be empowering, the key point is the woman choosing what they want to wear, not caring what others think breaking down stigma and stereotypes on certain images/topics in a conservative society. The woman's choice is what matters and gives them power, rather than 'The Man' (society) telling them what to do and wear / when it's appropriate and isn't appropriate or to their liking.

I am glad AOA did it on Queendom stage, a show that is super popular and a lot of people will see it, but it was just an homage to Mamamoo's stage in 2016 MMA and I hate that everyone is forgeting that. Mamamoo had strong, empowering, feminist lyrics and performances since the beginning of their careers.

Queendom isn´t popular, it just has 1% in views which for korean tv is quite crap, in other words not much people watch it. Though I'm happy for AOA for trying a new concept for them and showcasing mamamoo's performance from 2016, it makes me sad that a lot of people and Kpop stans don't credit Mamamoo and just hype AOA; do they deserve hype, well yeah, but credit where credit is due.

Everyone: Omg AOA groundbreaking Queendom performance, feminism and gender reversal !!!1!1 Moomoos: .... Mamamoo MMA 2016 stage / entire discography: Am I a joke to you? ❗️Edit: A lot of people liked this for the comment written above (312), but something in my head just clicked. The reason why people are so excited about AOA's stage is bc it's coming from a group that has been over sexualised their entire 8 year career. This is "groundbreaking" *for them* because it's almost a complete 180 from their normal concepts. A sexy group turning around and delivering this type of stage may be unheard of. Mamamoo have become their own standard for feminism and being pro lgbtq+ as they have been doing it their whole career, but AOA have never done anything to this extent before. I thought AOA's stage had nice vocals and the dancing was good, they even tried to interact with the audience as well which was cute, but for a long time I didn't understand where the hype for this stage was coming from when Mamamoo had already done this idea. But now I understand. It's all about the context of the group AOA themselves. They must have been pretty scared to stray so far from their usual image (which had allowed them to be so successful all these years), but they did well in this concept, and tbh *for AOA, this really was a groundbreaking performance.* As a moomoo, I am proud of their performance. As a woman, I am proud of their bravery. It takes guts to try something new on stage, especially in a conservative country like Korea where you're not sure how people will react, and also in front of the public who are used to viewing you only a certain (hyper sexualised) way. I hope AOA will continue with this kind of concept because I feel this new side allows all the members to shine much more! Whichever direction they go in the future, I hope it's done with the members' consent and their own input. This moomoo will now be cheering for AOA in the future! 👏🌱

Can we just give a brief shout out to the fact that Mamamoo has been working full time challenging the status quo for women in Korea for YEARS? "Hwasa's ass" is damn important cause she's one of very few mainstream artists that's thicc af and creates her own beauty standards instead of trying to fit in. And she's proud about it which she's showing by her outfits. Her skin is not ghost-dipped-in-flour-white either and she's rocking it despite tons of criticism. Her being unapologetic about the way she looks and forcing the industry to accept her is massive for women not only in Korea. Moving on to the others - Solar's pole-dancing on stage, taking ownership of her sexuality, not taking any prisoners; Byul has been dressing in suits, ties and floor-length coats since forever, giving everyone these masculine vibes and turning heads, not giving a rat's ass about no gender roles; Wheein being mature, smooth and chill, advocating for female friendships, relying on her gorgeous vocals and dance skills to die for.. I mean.. I could go on.

I loved AOA's performance bc of how much research they did on mamamoo and all the elements of mamamoo they put in it. The bow jimin did at the being, I was like omg! Bc it's something mamamoo used to do a lot (especially byul), the suits, mamamoo wear suits all the time, the reverse gender thing mamamoo did in uoay and decalcomanie, and then of course dancing with feminine male vogue dancers that mamamoo did in their legendary stage of mma in 2016. @xing5678 I don't know if you've watched the stage I'm talking about. Of course it wasn't exactly the same, they didn't bring in the exact same dancers or anything, I probably shouldn't have used the word identical, but for the people saying it's the first time anything like this has been done, the gender role reversals, suits, etc, that's completely false because mamamoo did this during their performance years ago. If the performances weren't similar, so many people wouldn't be talking about it in the comments section. And what was the different message? Aren't both performances about acceptance of diversity/lgbtq populations and not conforming to gender expectations and roles??? Also why are you getting so mad? It's not that big of a deal, both groups are great and talented.

Korea is really a biased and partial place and it gets clearer with AOA performance. When Mamamoo performed this concept of suits with drag queens, no one notices and no one feels empowered. But when other GG copies the same concept without proper references to the originals, they create sensation, goosebumps and legends. I have been stanning Mamamoo since 2015 and all these years I have felt, as an international fan, very neglected and biased and under appreciated. I wonder how the girls would feel in their own country! when all their goodness gets ragged under the fact they don’t have the beauty that satisfies the society. Sorry guys but this is heart breaking. Edit: The opinion that I had at the beginning (got up to 300 likes) changed a lot. My comment got a lot of responses where some were nice and others (not so much). So, at the end the takeaway is MMM and AOA performances were exposed to very different audiences and hence the varied response or in other words, attention. MMA 2016 performance could only appeal to mostly the fans who came to the event whereas Queendom opened its door to the entire nation. Their individual performance were both empowering and iconic. Now AOA might have mentioned about the MMM 2016 performance of Mamamoo and it might have got edited so things are pretty unclear in this regard. Also the stage concept of AOA in Queendom and Mamamoo in MMA 2016 are very similar yet a little different if you closely follow the show. At the end, after all the edits, we can just expect filtered contents for buzz.. So people who are scrolling the comments to taste the War between Moomoos and Elvis, it is a deep conversation 😅 but at the end, there is no denying that AOA gave an exceptional performance and broke past their moulds proving their real talents getting better by each rounds whereas Mamamoo also performed to their best and supported all other fellow colleagues with upmost cheer. ☺️

Fatema Binte Mujibul the stage seemed like an homage to Mamamoo considering they used the same troupe. Part of the reason AOA’s stage was so powerful was the combo of the lyrics, Jimin’s rap, and the fact that AOA was always sexualized with their clothes and dances. They finally got to show a different side that juxtaposed with the drag queens.

sergel02 I also agree with you on the points of how they showed their talents and came out of their sexualised identity. But there is a thing called intellectual property. Many people are saying that it’s fine as long as the message goes through. But that’s not the case. When you borrow an idea, you referred to it. It’s that simple. I agree there were other elements in their performance that also contributed to making their performance successful and iconic. But the most important thing that made this performance iconic is their suit and the drag queen that are borrowed. It’s not okay to borrow some one else’s legendary stage and pretend it’s theirs! Watch MMA 2016 performance of Mamamoo and then let me know what you really think... I will be waiting for your honest opinion. ☺️

Fatema Binte Mujibul oh I have and it was a fantastic and daring performance at the time and still is. They aren’t the first though to do that. Jolin Tsai, Koda Kumi, Ayumi Hamasaki, and others have done very similar things before MMM or AOA. Heck Solar’s part during Good Luck was similar to some of Koda Kumi’s lives for her concerts. There were some differences for sure in AOA’s stage as well. The lyrics of course. The lack of heels which ended up being more important than I thought it would (MMM still had their high heels on), the dance, the use of the dancers, etc. AOA certainly isn’t the first one to do it in Korea and since they are covering MMM it is a reference to them IMO, and credit is due to the original planners. But AOA made it so impactful through a mix of the stage the clothes the lyrics and how they used the dancers.

Dating scenario is similar in India. Those conservative values are still going strong and sex before marriage is heavily looked down upon but for some stupid reason elders are okay with strangers boning each other on the first night of marriage. Also, sleep with as many people as you want after marriage but do it before marriage, you'll be DISOWNED.

no hate towards AOA, however they basically copied Mamamoo's MMA 2016 performance. Mamamoo performed in suits, with men dressed as women in tight clothes and high heels, and had parade of males walking around... 'copied' was a bad choice of words, my apologies. I do watch Queendom, they're all established artists not trainees looking to debut. When you cover someone else's song, you wanna make it your own, put your own twist on it while still respecting the original artist. I respect AOA as artists even tho i do not listen to them and I understand why everyone was shocked because AOA's previous concepts that often sexualizes them wether it be the dance and/or clothes. It's just ironic that there's so much praise for that performance when Mamamoo do it at MMA 2016 and no one said anything

Korea at the moment is struggling with gender equality since Korea it's still very patriarchal and feminism is still shun upon. 'To cover Mamamoo, in suits with non-binary dancers but claiming it was not inspired by Mamamoo is the biggest B.S that i've ever heard..' and my post was about the pricks calling the stage legendary. when not only it wasnt the first performance to be done like that in SK, MMA 2016 is a bigger stage compared to a low rating reality tv show... @@joebahar6711 The first girl group to bring gender fluid dancers on stage would be Mamamoo and they still remain the first since AOA introduced us to a new/different group of dancers which is vogue dancers. Also we cannot claim things we haven't seen... She could have lied or actually said the truth. Jimin in Queendom said that she wanted to include her friends for a long time and that now seemed the perfect chance maybe because she got inspired by Mamamoo or because she had the feminism centered idea already set on her mind... We will never know for sure. Also about the suits... Other groups have wore them too Mamamoo It's not the first or Last group to do it and I think AOA did it as a way to make contrast with the vogue dancers and as a slap to the ones claiming they only wear sexy/revealing clothing. As for the stage being legendary... It is. Both stages are and the messages both stages wanted to convey were well portayed. As for Koreans not hyping Mamamoo as much I have already left 2 reasons above and a third would be that maybe they where not yet ready for it. 3 years It's not a small amount of time. Korea takes baby steps each year honestly though they are still behind compered to the West.

In the western world, what Hyuna did was absolutely tame. So, from my point of view, I didn't see anything wrong with what she did. However, I understand why someone from South Korea would find it inappropriate, considering how (overall) it is more conservative than my particular country. I do not agree, however, that she should have had to clarify or apologize. Shaking/Showing her backside is NOT the same thing as flashing bare body parts. She was well covered and all you really got was a shot of her shorts. Kpop girl groups wear even skimpier outfits and do even more "inappropriate" dance moves (in regards to Korean conservative thinking) that should raise more eyebrows than a few seconds of her little shake. Also, just to clarify one thing you said about AOA's performance. Those dancers were NOT Drag Queens, they were men dressed in drag. There is a huge difference between the two.

Let’s take a moment to appreciate how AOA , a group known for sexy image and who blew up because of their sexy songs or men praising song like heart attack , made a 180 degree turn and showed such a powerful empowering performance like this. Not only they put out bold feminist statement, suits not feminised with flat shoes and all. And back dancers dressed in skimpy clothes and high heels/make up / jewellery etc and given front stage and highlighted . Above all aoa wore dark lipsticks and had darker makeup so they completely threw their sexy image out of the window. There is a reason this stage blew up in korea even though the stage has been done before differently by many musicians but not on the way aoa has done. Learn to read between lines and situation.
