DKOldies is back at it again... and this time, they're doubling down on the fact that they do indeed refurbish consoles? A bit ridiculous, considering what I've seen from the 5 consoles I've purchased from them so far. When will they start refurbishing all of their consoles, instead of just the ones we see on video?

Funny thing is, I bought nearly all my consoles from Gamestop, and never had an issue. I bought a refurbed N3DS XL right when the pandemic started, and both came looking brand new. One 3DS XL got lost in the mail, so I went to Gamestop, they ordered me a new one, and the lost one ended up arriving. So, I ended up with 2 N3DS XLs, that both looked brand new. lol

I wouldn't put too much stock in the comments below any negative DKoldies video that gets views. There are a suspicious pattern of how these comment's generally play out. While not and out and out script they follow a "if commenter says this respond like this" sort of order of operations. Seriously, it's right down to weird specifics like comparing DKoldies to a car dealership selling a used car vs. a used car lot selling a used car. Point being I personally believe DKoldies has someone on staff whose sole job is to troll comments all day or they hired a PR firm to do it for them. Either way, don't be tricked into thinking these dudes have some army of defenders. Until DKoldies blew up on Tiktok and youtube they were just one of a handful of resellers that all buy up cheap consoles/games/peripherals with bots off ebay and sell it back to you for double the price. If you are planning on buying more consoles from them, you might want to order it on your friends/family's adress, because I think they might be taking notes from now on and making sure that especially youtubers will get the good stuff (you know they have your adress, so just like with crimminals on borders, they could instruct their staff to double check who placed an order). The one takeaway is that they are "proving" that they do clean the consoles, but not always on the inside which that shows how ineffective they are at refurbishing consoles. I knew from the moment I bought something from them the risk I was taking. But I thought that I was getting a REFURBISHED device. I ordered a DS lite paying higher price for “good condition” as well and I was entirely ripped off. I ordered a white one and it was completely dirty as if someone got hairy brown goo along the INSIDE of the console. Had to open it up and clean it myself and it got even worse! I’m surprised it even worked. And it didn’t because every time I turned it off, and back on it would reset all of my settings. Also came with a black stylus, and it had a crack on where the top screen attached being at risk of falling off. Also came with the wrong screws because I recently fixed another one I had. They are a major joke and I regret not asking for a refund. $170 down the drain when I could’ve spent $60 elsewhere. The replacement DS I got isn’t much better. Gonna stick with eBay and Amazon next time at least they actually do refurbish and sell for better price!

I recently picked up a backwards compatible PS3 from Facebook Marketplace of all places. It cost me £150 which is way cheaper than any of these retro stores would sell it (I'm in the UK and I'm pretty sure the PAL regions only got one back compat model, maybe they're cheaper/easier to buy/find in the US) and the seller had completely cleaned the console, changed the laser and changed the thermal paste. I don't even want to know what DKO would charge for a back compat PS3 model that had been actually refurbished to that level.

The reason I would do this is because I have a passion for collecting consoles and want to preserve them as much as possible. My guess is they probly only usually refurbish the broken consoles. The ones that come in that look good and work fine probly rarely, if ever, get opened up or refurbished. They just wipe em off with a wet wipe and put their sticker on the bottom and set it on the shelf. 99% of customers just never notice cause they don’t open em up to know whether they were refurbished or not.

The MAJOR red flag is: they have HUNDREDS of consoles, the repair table and cleaning table WASN'T WITH ANY OTHER CONSOLE EXCEPT THE WII. This is not normal if you work on a large scale of consoles

The worst part of it all is they're not taking responsibility for anything they've shipped out. If I was a store owner at all, whether it be a retro game store, hardware or just a small shop in general and I found out my employees weren't doing their job and not owning up to their mistakes, I would be furious. Some uninformed people are gonna watch that video and then immediately agree they refurbish their stuff whilst then going against anyone who has a problem with them. DKOldies should be ashamed of themselves.

Even ignoring the terrible refurbishing of consoles, I'm not paying £331.83 for a boxed, "refurbished", Wii, when I could go to CeX (UK high street game store) and buy a boxed, tested Wii with original accessories for £60. I'm also not paying £99.54 for a Wii that comes with nothing but the console when CeX doesn't even allow consoles to be sold without at least a power supply, display cable, controller and in the Wii's case, a sensor bar, and even with the requirement for that all to be there, it still only costs £42. And CeX isn't known for being a massively discount store. For some things, it costs more to buy at CeX then to buy new.

I just received my DKo shipment and the PS1 came with an open button that just sticks open (meaning it’s not clean) and an RCA cable missing most of its teeth. They’re suppose to be sending me a replacement and said it will take a few days to ship because “they thoroughly inspect everything”. But you know, they didn’t do that the first time. Pissed, more so at myself for thinking the DKo was just a haters issue.

the sad part is if they had an actial air compressor, 100psi they wouldnt even need to dissassemble most of the items to get the dust out, you can buy one of these for 99.00 on amazon, ive blown hundreds of power supplies out w/o dissassembling 95% of the dust is gone, and never had 1 esd problem.

I love the fact that they could have just easily ignored the negative comments about their website but just basically admitted to them not cleaning, refurbishing, or checking every console that is given to them by eBay users or some rando who wants to sell it to them I'm convinced only a few people in their company are actually able to check and repair consoles

DKOldies, and the retro gaming sphere as a whole has just completely destroyed my love for it. When I was a kid, retro games were the cheaper games we could afford and I loved them. I could afford to have a bunch of consoles and games for them from goodwill, thrift stores and flea markets. The early to mid 2010s when I was a teen was the best time for retro gaming, the games were cheap still and the community was thriving. But people like those guys and grading companies have overblown the prices to ludicrous levels, it's unironucally cheaper to get the latest Gen, and I just can't buy more games for my consoles anymore. They stripped the market, can barely find games in the wild anymore, and sucked all the fun out of browsing and paroozing the retro games.

I would just like to say on behalf of Gamstop. As a former Gamestop manager, not all stores are the same. At the store I managed we NEVER used magic eraser or any harmful chemicals when cleaning our consoles for resale. Microfiber cloths were used for outside cleaning and for our hard bristle brushes, we would wrap a disinfectant whipe around it as to not leave scratch marks. Q-tips, air blowers, and paper towels were used for inside dust cleaning and such. And It really upsets me when I see others having bad experiences with the company. But again, not all stores are the same.
