Just bought my 'new to me' '07 DL 1000. Thank you Ryan for turning me on to these great bikes. Truly the 'Swiss Army Knife' of motorcycles!

General helpful alternative for 'kicking and losing bolts': After removing the assembly they were holding, put the bolts back in the holes they came out of. Way easier when different length bolts are used, etc. You won't lose or confuse 'em. No need to try to remember anymore.

Thnx! This is way better than some sleazy pdf-file!

I just did that on my 2005 and it took way longer than I thought. Scraping, degreasing, more scraping. That's when I found the spacer was missing.

is it necessary to squeeze the clutch lever when you take down the clutch slave cylinder?

I just realized that I forgot to secure the clutch lever in when I did this earlier this summer. Do you think that could cause any issues? Or is there something that I should do now because I didn't secure the lever? I've put on quite a few miles since then and haven't noticed any issues, but I just want to make sure!

I have not a clue, but if it's already done, and running great... like a mechanic once said to me, just run the krap out of it, it'll be fine! Lol

Haha, I guess you're right! I tend to over-think things way too often...

Why do you clamp the clutch level in ?
@Wildbillsgarage5 жыл бұрын
It's a hydraulic clutch. Apparently its too prevent there slave cover from doing something it shouldn't. Mechanic buddy said it's a good idea. Not sure if it's absolutely mandatory. Easy enough.

Sold this big girl (DL 1000) after 3 years and am currently riding a DL650

Tim Allen I would only buy a 2014 out newer 1000 Vstrom. the 650 are super economical and lots of power. if you are going to have a passenger, that's where the more cc's are needed. the dl650 is tiny compared to the big Tender or the GSA 1200... yet the 650 will hang with them. good luck and happy trails

Tim Allen my wife, and myself, love our little V's. you can tackle anything. spent hours on a GSA 1200 this year, and it was pretty impressive.

I've owned my 2005 DL1000 for about 2 years and just now took it down to check the valve clearances. It's easy on the 1000 as the cams are gear driven, while the 650 is chain driven and much more labor intensive to adjust the clearances on them. Both bikes are spec'd at 15K miles between adjustments.
