I am listening to this song 10 years later in 2022 and I can't understand why Linda Perry in not a huge mega star and a household name. She is phenomenal.

Umm, because she isn't that great, that's why. "What's Up" was her only real hit. You need to be a lot more than a one hit wonder, to make it as a megastar. Sure she does an OK job with this song, but she definitely is not a Beyonce or Lady Gaga.. Not even close..

I can't get through this song without crying. Linda Perry put my mom's life and story into words. My mothers conversations with God kept her alive and going until she decided to stop eating because she wanted to be with God. She was abused and humiliated since the day she was born and her biggest desire was to go with God after seeing that all of us, her children were adults and ok. This is probably the one song that I love the most, its dark and it's honest. It makes me remember my mother and how important it is to be honest.

I know someone who was bullied beyond imagination by a workplace full of gays because they were good looking and straight and would not date the gays they even threatened sexual harm to thier 2 year old child so the person was forced to quit, gays are aggresive pedifile bullies!

I may not be gay but I do relate deeply with this song. life has been so hard from severe abuse that started as a newborn to having cancer 5 different times. I have asked god why he keeps punishing me by making me stay alive. people tell me how lucky I am and I am sorry because I don't feel lucky. Before I go to bed every night I pray I will not wake up but I do so then I plan on taking my life but I have children and grandchildren and I don't want them to find me dead in the house or another location. I bought a gun along with bullets. But I am no disabled from all the health problems I have had and from severe PTSD so I cannot get to a place where they wouldn't find me. I am so tired and so alone but my family doesn't understand I am suppose to be a fighter that's what they say they don't ask what they can do to help me I am not posting this because I want attention and I am not looking for pitty. I am posting this because I am fully aware of how LGBT community is not always welcomed but there are also people like me or like you you cannot point a finger on just one community's struggles. Everyday all over the world there are people who struggle through many things in there life and it is hard to lift there up off there pillows. Understanding is all I want.

Have you tried sharing with your loved ones what you shared here in the exact same raw way? Do they know about the abuse and your suicidal thoughts? Who else outside your family and us have you shared this with? Sometimes, all we need is understanding from a few people, even if our loved ones don't "get us", the relief from knowing other people do get us makes it easier to live and feel better and move up from there, inching up a bit every day... That’s true. I’m straight and my life has been pure hell. I don’t want to burden anyone but I have lived with severe complex PTSD for most of my life. I know very well what it’s like to be suicidal. Spent most of my 63 years of life in emergency rooms and mental hospitals from suicide attempts. Please don’t take your life. Some of us have more struggles than others. Can you find a group online where people can relate to what you’re going through? Hang in there okay?

This made me cry. It really sounds like Linda is searching for God to come into her life and make Himself known to her in a very intimate way. Even in the song "What's Up" there is that questioning. I pray that she will come to know Jesus and truly realize His love, mercy and the peace that passes all understanding, that only He can give. He truly does loves her and is not disappointed in her. Christ loves us with an everlasting love. Our identity & why we are here is found in Him.
