Linda my mom lost her son my brother in June of 2012 not only did she relate on that level to god but my moms family is pretty hard on her as well. She loves this song and so do I. You made a difference in her heart and soul she didn't feel alone, thank you for making my mom feel like she wasn't alone in her feelings of not being a good enough daughter but also helping her with the grief of my brother and her son Jesse. I think the meaning applies to people differently. Linda was speaking of a LGBT organization that she works with and I think that is what it means to her. To me it has to do with health issues. I Love songs that has so many different meanings.

Linda wrote this song. After she wrote it, she felt the song was perfect for Courtney, so she gave it to her. She does that with a lot of her songs. As gifted a musician as she is, her passion is as a songwriter. I happen to love her voice and have since "What's Up?" with Four Non Blondes came out. One of my all-time favorites. Comparing people's voices seems rather trite to me. Bob Dylan wrote many, many songs that were sung by others with clearer voices. I love both versions. You do remember that "All along the Watchtower", which Jimmy Hendrix sang, was written by Bob, as was Mr. Tamborine Man, sung by the Yardbirds, and Blowing in the Wind, done by Peter, Paul and Mary. Jimmy messed up the words, but everyone loved his version. I prefer Bob's version. But, it really doesn't matter, because Bob is the master songwriter, and he doesn't care if someone else sings his songs - nor does Linda. Give her credit for writing a masterpiece, even if you prefer Courtney Love singing it. To say that Linda is boring makes you sound a bit plastic.
