One day I picked up a defective DLP protector for autopsy purpose... Upon opening I found it was an easy fix, some internal connector was not seated correctly ! I still have it and use it sometimes, but then I still need to autopsy a DLP-fitted projector. I've already processed several 3-LCD ones by the way, including a very big and expensive Sony VPL-VW12HT. Keep this coming, I love autopsy videos (and already watched 3 times the complete kuka robot autopsy videos from the Geek Group)

I had an LG DLP since 2005. My bulbs are down to about 85 dollars. I use it as a bedroom TV. The standard def. on these never looked good, but the high def. screen looks just as good as some of those cheap LCD's you see out now.

The cord is worth a grand total of $.02 as scrap since it's a thin gauge of wire and is classified as dirty copper, it takes a lot of them to make any money, it's easier picking bottles.

wow, never seen a TV like that before!, can';t wait till the next part! definitely sounds like bearings are spun in some component. I guess it should go the way of RP and CRT Tv's and get scrapped regardless of being fixable.

It's the color wheel, mine made the same noise and being an updated air bearing, all I had to do was use some compress air to clean the dust on bearing, If you have the old ball bearing type, you can either oil or get new color wheel.

Laps are always worth replacing its usually about 200 dollars. To buy a new tv cost way more

I know this is old, but the problem with the buzzing and the bad picture is the color wheel. I have a 2003 Samsung 60" DLP and it's making that same sound. I've replaced the color wheel before when one shattered. I thought about buying a new TV but it will cost me less to repair this one, besides it's a great picture when it's woking.

That Panasonic is special as if i remember correctly, it can accept HD signals at 480P via the Progressive Scan RGB cable, only analogue audio/video but still HD! I don't care about all the marketing rubbish, LCD, LED and Plasma still cannot match the picture quality of a great CRT display!

yeah.... colorwheel ! unbalanced or bearings worn out ! you can try some wd40 on it, directly injected into the bearings...or just dip the whole assembly and let it soak...worked for me quite often. get a decent crt rear projection unit ;)

fan stays on to cool the bulb. new bulbs are cheap.. surf web. I have a 52" HD - ila rear projection t.v. .. thats the fan.. noisy.. replace or clean it with compressed air.... my bulb is 44 dollars. It is analog.. you need a digital converter box... noisy fan.. my television was several thousand when new.. it is STILL WORTH IT to buy a new bulb every decade... my first bulb replacement this week.. had this for many many years.. it was my sisters.. they bought it new.. she bought an newer one.. gave me this one.

Can you still buy CRT TVs over there in the states? I really wanted a Panasonic TX-36PD50. I have a Samsung UE40C5800, mid range LED backlit but the picture is so poor compared to old CRTs. Maybe due to the 576i Freeview digital signal being upscaled to fit the 1080 pixels of the screen!

What would happen if I added a second bulb and used it as a protector on a wall. Would the ballast detect it if I connected them in parallel.

I'm not sure b/c of youtube's inability to reproduce sound depth, but I saw there was a secondary fan just slightly up and to the right (left if viewed from the front of the tv) and laying down that might have also been the source of the buzzing noise. I have a fridge on my truck that makes that same sound, and it's one of the fans going bad.

Was wondering if you could help me? I have a dlp basically the same as this, I have an hln617w which looks exactly like this! My tv blows a small glass fuse on the sub power board when you try to turn it on, would it be the main power board or the ballast?

I have one similar to this, but with access openings on the side. My picture is somewhat dull and hazy. I’ve tried cleaning the mirror without great results. I’m wondering if I would damage the screen by cleaning the INSIDE of it. Also, what should I use? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Cleaning everything is best. Cigarette smoke and just regular air particles will do it because of the flow of air as constant as it does flow; almost acts as a filter. Not sure which part you were referring to but even the dlp backlight bulb would need cleaning as well as the cooling system fan and ducts.
