@@markolazarevic6944 See, the problem with that line of thought is that Dante is notorious for having several tricks up his sleeves, and doesn't fight in the same form throughout a battle. Dante likely wouldn't be trying to beat Vergil in face-to-face speed and strength, a field that he (as shown by their first fight in DMC3) is obviously superior at. Instead Dante would likely use all his Styles to try to whittle Vergil down and outsmart him, though it's certainly debatable how effective that would be against someone who knows him best. The final clash could either be a last resort or the setup for a technique depending on interpretation (and style gauge of course).

Dante was distraught beyond his emotions having to fight Vergil and leave him in the Underworld at the end of DMC3, all because how important he had realized family really was via Lady and her struggles. It makes sense that Vergil would start to have similar feelings due to his time as V and spending time both with Dante and his son, Nero. I think it makes sense that Vergil has come to realize, even if just a little bit, that he has a family and that they're worth more than absolute power in the end.

Vergil is a better swordman overall, he dedicated himself to only use Yamato overall, so it would make sense that he won in a face to face (sword only?) Fight. The issue is, Dante change his combat style (aka style system) to possibly throw him off... That and.. ya know.. ROYAL GUARD!

@@strikeforce1500 In terms of swordsmanship they are actually the same, Vergil is all about the precision while Dante is about the power and considering their swords it makes a lot of sense, Dante has more variety and is much more unpredictable while Vergil has fewer weapons but those weapons have a lot of built in power in them like Beowulf and much more less none sense, in terms of DT Vergil gets Doppleganger which can go into different speeds depending on what Vergil wants to however it has only access towards Yamato but it already has skills built in it if he uses other weapons to attack and it has some form of free will making it a little bit unpredictable as well as increasing damage by quite a bit and better at targeting while Dante’s DT powers everything he has and his sword as well as regeneration and all of his styles get buffs. I could go in-depth with SIN DT and everything like that but that would be too much.

dante got his ass kicked by vergil 1 time before dmc3 then the 1st time in DMC3. 2nd battle was a draw. 3rd dante finally won. Dmc 1 dante lost to Nelo Angelo vergil and only survived cuz plot amulet sheild. 2nd time drives him off but i think the comic implies Nelo knocked dante out. 3rd time obviously dante wins again and frees vergils soul.

They have always been equals. The only reason Vergil has ever lost is because in DMC3, his mind was clouded by his ambitions and his pride was his biggest downfall and then in DMC1, he wasn't even in complete control of his own mind. Vergil was on a quest for more power so he could be in charge of his own destiny, and he got it. So when he fought Dante in DMC5 as his true self, that is why they fought to a stand-still. Because their ambitions and powers were matched, but they both had clouded minds. They sought to kill each other, which is why NEITHER of them won. Nero intervened, settled their blood feud and reminded them they can be rivals without killing each other.
