In their amateur days beterbiev probably couldn't cut as much weight so he fought at a higher class, and bivol hadn't fully grown so he fought lower.

Eventually Egor switched to heavy but in 2011 they switched to Beterbiev being hw. If Beterbiev stayed at lhw he could have been a gold medalist relatively easily. Beterbiev was small at hw
